Gaylord's at Kilohana Ratings and Reviews
Food was mediocre. Nothing spectacularly great. Quite a few choices. The omelets were tasty. $10 for bottomless mimosa was good deal. Music was too loud. Impossible to enjoy. Also we couldn’t carry on a conversation because of the volume on the live performance.
The website advertised a Bloody Mary buffet. We were disappointed to find out it was no longer offered.
The individual slicing the prime rib took painstakingg effort to slice it paper thin. It gave the perception that they were “cheap” on what was a fairly expensive buffet.
The live music really added to the ambiance. Very enjoyable
I’ve been to Gaylords several times and I’m always impressed. Great food, great atmosphere, and always really friendly helpful staff. Craig took care of us this night and he is very friendly, helpful, considerate and his service is excellent. Great drinks and usually very good food. Overall a very pleasant and comfortable experience and am looking forward to my next visit. Keep up the good work guys!
This restaurant was recommended by a friend. My husband and I went while on our honeymoon to celebrate his birthday. We finished the rum tasting next door and stepped into the bar for a cocktail (actually two, because they were delicious and we were enjoying the ambiance). Dinner was wonderful with our only complaint being too full after an appetizer, two entrees, and a shared dessert. The staff was professional and the beauty of the plantation home has been preserved. I would highly recommend for any special occasion.
We were visiting Kauai for our 20th anniversary we booked Thanksgiving dinner here. My husband booked this reservation almost three weeks in advance and stated it was our anniversary. We got there about 20 mins early so went to the bar and had a couple of drinks. Hostess finally came for us and instead of sitting in a nice romantic area they stuffed us up in a indoor room filled with unruly kids. We were the only couple sitting among the large loud families. The food arrived we got the Thanksgiving traditional dinner which was horrible!! I had to send my first plate back because it was ice cold. Second plate wasn't much better. Turkey was really dry as was the stuffing gravy ( which if you could find it) was like water. I will say that the Kale Salad I ordered was delicious and they gave us a complimentery dessert for our anniversary. Other than that worst Thanksgiving dinner ever.
The food was delicious but getting any kind of service from the wait help was near impossible. Asked one waitress for an item and was told that we weren't her table. Asked another and they said sure but she might forget so make sure and ask someone else as well.
Sadly our brunch at Gaylord’s was not what we experienced in the past. We’ve had brunch there on almost every visit to the Island in the past 18 years. This visit was very disappointing. The Bloody Mary was bland, the Prime Rib was over cooked, most dishes were cold and dried out. Was a disappointing start to our Sunday. Gaylord’s needs to re-evaluate!!!
Simply the finest dining experience one can have on Kauai and, frankly, anywhere else one could go. We have eaten lunch here on several occasions during previous visits to the island but this was our first for dinner - it was beyond even our greatest expectations.
We have been coming to Gaylord's for many years. The food never disappoints but the service left a bit to be desired. Long wait in the bar area. We unfortunately seated ourselves too near the piano. When they played, we could no longer converse. Seemed to have lost some of its charm.
Staff knew it was our anniversary and sat us at what they felt was a private romantic table. It was private. Almost outside! Could have been romantic but there was a luau going on on the plantation property and the music and sounds were distracting. Service was very good. Food was plentiful and tasty but I was not overwhelmed. My short ribs were dry and my husband said his scallops were nothing special. The experience overall was very nice but I expected more.
After an initial issue with the hostess (that the manager addressed to our full satisfaction) my wife and I had a great dinner (as always). Drinks and wine were very good, food was wonderful and our waitress was very friendly, attentive and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner.
One fact to consider: on Thursday nights people from the cruise ship Pride of America attend the luau next door and some have dinner at the restaurant before. Those people fill up the restaurant and keep the wait and kitchen staff busy. It appears that the cruise ship crowd is gone by 6:30 pm. Dining after 6:30 is therefore a good option.
45 minutes from order to table. No fault of the server. My burger was well done when I asked for medium. My mother's fish tacos arrived as "fish of the day", but considering we didn't want to wait any longer, accepted our over cooked and wrong orders (her order was comped). Overall, an excellent restaurant with great ambiance, friendly and attentive wait staff, awesome Mai Tais, but the head chef needs a reality check.
The food was great, the service was slow. It took 40+ minutes to get our burger and fish tacos. We had allowed an hour for lunch prior to driving to the airport, causing us to have to scarf our food down in under 15 minutes. When we came for dinner a few days earlier, service was much faster, so we weren’t prepared for the long wait at a much less busy time.
I used to love going to Gaylord's when visiting Kauai. I feel that service and the quality of food has gone down hill over the last couple of years. After this past visit, I don't think I will go back. Will look for other brunch options on Kauai. I mentioned something and they really didn't seem to care. The setting is lovely, but service is lacking and better food can be had elsewhere.
Food presentation was beautiful, nice atmosphere . Disappointed that prime rib was not available on the evening we were there due to the luau. The Ahi is FANTASTIC both as appetizer an main course . YOU must get the Coconut pie. Waiter was new but we had a wonderful busboy. Should have used bug spray for the time of evening we were there. Been to Kauai many many times, first time at Gaylord's an we will go back, it is must. Glad we had reservations! Thank you Open Table!
Booked Sun brunch at Gaylord's. Food was OK but rather disjointed. Yogurt bar w/add-ons but no spoons. Buffet only for sides and lunch items. One "entree" item ie omelette, egg Benedict, etc. included. Veg omelette on entree w/only onion, tomato, peppers yet later learned sauteing mushrooms, zucchini, on station with short ribs and sirloin. Would have liked to have those as option for omelette. Service very poor, Ordered Bloody Mary bar at same time omelette, food came and was half gone before vodka arrived. It had obviously been sitting at the bar for some time since it was so watery. Dessert almost non-existent. Small donut holes w/cinnamon sugar and small cream puffs. That's it.... would not go back.
When we come to Kauai, we always go to Gaylord’s. It has really gone downhill since our last visit in Jsnusry. My wife wanted he filet, and asked our waiter Sam how much they cooked their medium rare. He said they had a professional cook and it would be medium rare. Either he was just impudent or didn’t know anything about cooking meat. I think his problem was both, including inexperience. That was the last time we saw him until he took dessert order, bus boy had to bring dessert menu. He said their fish was “oni”, not even knowing it was “ono”. Fish was over cooked, dry and burned from the grill. Dinner took almost 2 hours, lots of waiting. The table next to us took over 1 hour just to get appetizers. Gaylord’s used to be real good, but I won’t be returning. Also, weekend night but no music like they used to have.
