The great Kale Salad is gone from the menu. There was very little for us as vegans when we visited recently. The Brussels sprouts portion was tiny, and we struggled to find anything to order. We left hungry...
The service was indifferent.
We will not go back.
Table of 3 for dinner. Roast chicken was moist and well seasoned with nice sides. Pork cheeks with grits/polenta and sauteed greens was delicious. A bit larger and it would have been a great entree. Teamed with salad, it was a good meal. Service was friendly and attentive. They were able to make several modifications to fit dietary restrictions. Olive oil cake was a bit small, but tasty. Overall, a very nice dining experience for 3 very different diners.
Gather used to be one of our favorite restaurants, and the pizza is still really good, except that we had time to gobble down only one piece. The "House Punch" was uninteresting and totally disappointing. They used to have a great cocktail called "The Bee Sting" - but no longer. It took nearly an hour for our first course to come out, then another 20 minutes for the remainder. Meanwhile, the music was too loud to have a conversation. We left much of our dinner on the table in order to make the movie for which we had already bought tickets. Really disappointing - we will not be back.
My sister wanted to go here for her birthday. The food was fine, no complaints. The decor was lovely, and the wait staff very nice. We told our waiter we needed to be 3 blocks away at 7pm, and this was at 5:15pm. 1.5hours for dinner should be plenty but at 6:55pm, we still hadn't been offered dessert so we sang happy birthday over the water glasses. I was so disappointed and won't come here again, but not for lack of good food. It was just a bummer when we had given plenty of warning and there was plenty of time to eat dinner and dessert.
We went to Gather before a theater performance and the waitress was friendly and professional. The tables were not too close but the furnishings were plain and not very welcoming. The ice cream was good but the rest of the food was uniformly awful. Over-complicated mixtures with a lot of pickled components. The taste of the ingredients was totally overwhelmed. New and adventurous chefs should produce excellent dishes by understanding what they are doing and why. Different and new does not equate to success. They even managed to ruin a burrata and beet dish, the pork cheeks were awful and a starter of beef crackling stuck to your teeth whilst the powdered malt vinegar made you cough. They claim to reflect the bounty of Northern California it was totally obscured on our visit.
We almost fell backwards in our chairs when we took a bite out of the Brussels' sprouts on the menu for dinner. They were divine. The kale salad was a total treat and the mussels and farm egg with Gigante beans were both fantastic. THose 4 dishes were enough for our whole dinner and we even felt a bit stuffed. Sitting outside was totally delightful and our server was a joy. We came back for brunch the next day and were not quite as excited by the omelette which was perfectly fine, but not quite as transcendental of an experience as those damn brussels' sprouts. The crispy potatoes were pretty dry and lackluster and the salad got a little brambly, but our server, again was an upbeat and nonstop smiling joyful fellow. We are so happy we discovered this joint.
We are mostly vegan and we loved our food choices. The pizza was awesome! We arrived late for our reservation due to traffic and they were very accommodating in seating us as soon as possible. We also let them know we had en evening event to go to and they took our complete order in one and delivered all in perfect timing, getting us out with plenty of time to make our event. Still savoring the food.
I came here with my mom who enjoys great food but doesn't quite understand the small, cramped, hipster brunch spots of the Bay just yet. We both very much enjoyed our meals, the coffee was was great, the restaurant itself is beautiful and the service was phenomenal. I never felt like I was waiting for someone to walk by but I never felt rushed overly attended to.
Food was absolutely delicious, as usual. It was my first dinner back after almost 3 years, and Gather never disappoints. The service is impeccable, the setting acoustically pleasing - it's so difficult to find a restaurant where guests don't have to shout over one another to be heard.
Consistently good food and service. Friendly atmosphere and nice young crowd. Creative salads & appetisers .We really loved an excellent choice of Pizza’s varieties. Tasty salads with healthy ingredients. Lovely , attentive but not intrusive service. Will be back fir the holiday meal and would recommend to friends who appreciate a good creative food .
A great place for sharing plates. Everything was delicious! We had little gem salad, beets w/beet hummus, Brussels sprouts, mussels, a pizza with corn and sausage and a chickpea Panisse. I personally loved the flavors in the little gem salad, the mussels & the pizza but each dish had its strong fans!
Good vegan options; hoping they'll add even more vegan choices to the brunch menu.
Friendly and attentive service and a nice relaxed atmosphere that creates a comfortable environment for all.
Dishes reflect high quality of ingredients and skill of chefs.
Gather was decent and we will go back. The drinks were very special and above average in taste, unique ingredients and presentation. We ordered the Kale salad which tasted off. It tasted like cooking stock and had a wilted texture as well. The pizza was good. It had corn on top (which I loved) and was wood fired, but it did not blow my mind. Next time I will try two completely different items because neighboring tables had some delicious looking dishes. The menu was a little limited however, so we will see. I do believe the menu changes seasonally so maybe in a few months.
