Well prepared food. Good service. The wine (Pinot Noir) was overpriced.
It was our first time at Gather. It will NOT be our last time! Thanks for making our anniversary dinner amazing.
We had a great time. First cocktails and then dinner & dessert. Everything was great. Food was outstanding!
Gourmet vegan charcuterie is the highlight. Meat appetizers and main courses are also fantastic. Pizza has a lovely crisp crust and the right amount of healthy (not cheese) toppings. Dessert (we had chocolate) unfortunately is not memorable. Service was the weakest spot the 2nd time we were there--our waiter either forgot about us or was intentionally ignoring us so we ended up waiting a long time to get entrees, order desserts.
We were a party of five and we had an amazing experience at Gather. We ended up having a family style dinner because everyone wanted to try everyone else's dinner. We were so excited about the flavors and the textures and the details of every ingredient in the dishes. We LOVED it and it was a memorable dinner for sure. Our server and service was excellent!! Up until the bill, then he wrongly charged my credit card twice... and now my bank is currently pending $500 worth of payments as opposed to 140$, and had to call the manager to deal with it, so a bit of a hassle because we aren't rich people, and $500 is a bit of a disruption! But I understand that mistakes happen... Otherwise fantastic dinner, and everyone in my party would agree.
Great and beautiful food! Recommend to everyone!
Extremely delicious food. Many different flavors, and incredibly well balanced; nothing overpowered anything else, yet all very intense. Although there were dishes that were vegetarian, lack of meat did not seem to be an issue, or even noticeable.
a great place for vegetarians and meat eaters alike!
Innovative, healthy, sustainable, .... What else does one want?
This was my second time at gather and it was still as tasty as I had remembered it to be previously. The pizza's are truely pieces of art work and that panther ranch burger is out of this world tasty. I am constantly suggesting Gather to anyone who is looking for a new place to try!
The food is good, the service spotty, and the restaurant is a bit pretentious. For example, our appetizer came in an outsized plate, showcasing the plate rather than the food. The generally efficient service was punctuated by interruptions from the waitstaff asking how everything was and if we were finished with the food. Our dinner guests said that they were working on it at least twice, without the hint being communicated to the staff. We did go when the place was crowded, so it may be a bit more relaxed at other times. The food quality was good, all the ingredients were fresh and both the meat and vegetarian options were well prepared and plentiful.
Two visits with my fiance and both were wonderful.
Sunday Brunch - Waiting for our party we ordered drinks and the bartender was terrific. She was knowledgeable, fun and knows her tequila. A+ for tasty bar time.
The food was delicious. My highlight has to be the Prather Ranch Burger. Perfect medium rare beef covered in Sierra Nevada Cheddar, aioli and yes I will add crispy smoky BACON. Served with perfectly crispy fries.
Went back for dinner a few weeks later and tried the Fried Green Beans. Ridiculously good! Green beans stir-fried with braised bacon, kimchee, Thai basil and pork skin. It's like Korean BBQ has a love child with Pork Belly, a perfect appetizer.
Burger, Green Beans, Fortaleza Tequila, and Bacon please, any day.
Wish we had Gather in Sacramento--one of the outstanding restaurants of our time.
The food was innovative with subtle flavors dancing in your palette . It was very satisfying and yet light. Had a great time with the family and we all loved the food. Will definitely go back and will keep it in "my favorites" list.
I've been to Gather for brunch and dinner. Love the season, locally sourced approach. Brunch was out in the lovely patio complete with a fragrant herb garden. Great meal options - Veg and Omnivore. Stone Fruit salad - delicate dressing, fresh produce. Poached Egg with bacon-bean ragu - intense flavors, perfectly cooked eggs. Good strong coffee, too. Dinner had fun, classic cocktails, a modest wine list and more lovely dishes of Veg or Omnivore. We split the stunning & creative Veg Charcuterie (a savory blueberry sauce and pickled mushrooms?? Yes!) and the gazpacho. Not an ordinary gazpacho, but one with roasted tomatoes and strawberry granita - astoundingly good. Juicy burger & rich heirloom carrot dishes were well executed. Dessert amazed.
The vegetarian "charcuturie" was delicious and beautifully presented. I would order it again and again. There are three non-vegetarian items on the menu: chicken, fish, burger. It would be nice to see another fish dish on the menu. Overall, a lovely experience.
WAS NOT SURE HOW TO RATE NOISE.....IT WAS VERY NOISY.
Great food. Great ambiance. Pizza is good for picky kids if they don't like anything else.
Gather's lunch menu seemed limited. More choices would have been nice. We were taking our grandson for his birthday lunch and he had wanted to order their hamburger, which he loves, but it wasn't on the menu. He had the ham sandwich, and liked it, along with the split-pea soup, which he loved and polished off every drop. This from a very picky eater.
The kale salad was superb with fabulous carrots and the pizza was good but could have stayed in the oven just a bit more to be perfect.
Pleasant but slightly timid waitstaff (with very little of help to tell you about the wine or the menu) are a bit of surprise, given the high quality of the food: on a recent visit, had excellent kale salad, sardines, and roast chicken. A little bit pricey for the area, too: on the verge of NYC prices ...
Love the soup and salad combination. That and a Corpse Reviver #2 will get you through the day!
My sister and I had a delicious lunch last week at Gather. The food was delicious. The service was outstandin. Attentive, informative and laid back at the same time. The ambiance was light filled and relaxed in that oh-so Berkeley way. I'm definitely coming back for another delightful time.
One of the best and most inventive places in town.
Fresh & delicious. The polenta pancakes were delicious & the corn scramble was perfection; best scrambled eggs I've had in a while very good potatoes on the side.
It was a lovely day so we enjoyed sitting outside & our server was very helpful. I can't wait to go back.
The food was excellent, though both of our entrees could have been hotter.
Best vegetarian pizza I've ever had. So good we went back twice in one trip and tried to go a third before having to run to the airport.
I had previously been to Gather for lunch and liked it a lot. However the dinner was very disappointing. The wait person was inattentive and when she did come to the table or was solicited by us, she was surly and unpleasant. The food was very so-so.
Won't go back, at least not for dinner.
First time at GATHER. Felt a friendly spirit, excellent fresh food, loved the menu, plan to return often.
It was truly and wonderful dining experience- the food was an adventure but not one that was only about being different. The dishes introduced some unique ingredients and the combination with well loved basics really totalled a delightful dining experience.
The intervention of the chef into our choices to make certain that we were truly experiencingthe best of what each dish could offer was a really pleasant surprise. It was my first experience in that sort of intensity and frankly, interest in the diner's understanding of the ingredient choices. And yet it was not intrusive. To that end, I give the credit to the involvement of the owners in the dining room as well as the well trained and competent servers.
We love trying the innovative cuisine at Gather. We are not vegetarians, however, I actually ate a completely vegan meal and it was terrific!
