Not sure who wrote the previous reviews of 4 stars, but the food was mediocre at best. Crab Cake was shredded imitation crab, and short rib risotto was overcooked beef on very soggy rice. The other five entrees were not anything to write home about.
The food is mediocre at best. I ordered risotto and the flavor was poor. It was more like wet rice than creamy risotto. It was topped with hard crusty pieces of beef...never saw anything like this. I commented about one of the bartenders not wearing a face covering all evening.
Sitting outdoors in the alleyway was okay as we caught a cross breeze to keep it comfortable. However, there was a lot of noise from the traffic on Sunrise Blvd.
The food was okay; everyone was pleased with what they ordered. It was rather pricey for the portion sizes. Salads without protein, were $14 - $16.
Our server, whose name I cannot remember, made us all very uncomfortable. Rather than hearing us, he was very busy telling us everything he liked. He was also too pushy in regards to up-selling. So much so, that we all felt it. I have never felt it before in any restaurant; though I know all good servers do it as I use to be a server.
Unfortunately, the food was simply disappointing. While the presentation was amazing, appetizers such as the Octopus was tough and rubbery while the snapper was fishy. On a positive note,, the drinks were amazing and our waiter was knowledgeable and very attentive.
The pork belly was amazing! So was the octopus. My only food complaint was that there wasn’t very much short rib in the short rib risotto, and the meat that was there was dry. We still ate it all - the risotto was yummy. Our server was great and the manager came by to check on us. We will definitely be back!
Ian Jenny & Gary great bar crew
It was great. We would definitely return. The service was outstanding the folks working there were extremely friendly and professional. Thank you
Everything was very good and the service was excellent
Great food everything was delicious and beautiful presentation!
Great new place and Marvin was phenomenal
THE DRINLKS WHERE VERY GOOD AND THE FISH WAS WELL PREPARED
WE ALSO HAD THE RISOTO WITH SHORT RIBS AND THERE WAS NO FLAVOR TO IT HAD TO GET THE SERVER BRING ME SOME PARMAGAN CHEESE AND PEPPER
It was nice to find that consistent everyday restaurant. Not only is is difficult to open a new restaurant under normal conditions, management has assembled a good team from other well known places. The chef lets the local ingredients shine and blends many different dished to address any pallet. Craft cocktails and an wine list help accentuate the flavors. The service is impeccable and friendly which helps round out the experience. This will be our go to spot for a while. And they have other things planned for the future. Can't wait to try their Dim Sum Sundays!
A coat of paint and brighter ambiance & better stocked bar definitely makes this a new restaurant (vs the previous tenant, long-time staple Canyon). Gone are the curtains and dim, intimate feel - hello to loud, loud and more loud guests.
The bar and bartenders were great and very friendly. Once seated (we waited just a few minutes for the reservation), we were greeted by our very friendly and enthusiastic waiter. It was tough to har him due to the extremely loud other guests who were screaming at each other - no masks, since they were all seated at their own tables. I could barely hear my fellow diner and found myself having to just give up and skip any conversation we were hoping to have. What's worse than having screaming kids at a restaurant? Slightly drunk over-the-top adults who have been cooped up and feel they have the right to let loose and scream their stories at each other.
As for the food, the skirt steak looked amazing, and was (my fellow diner chose that and shared a bite). I chose the pork chop on recommendation from our waiter -- it was lack luster and tough. I envied those skirt steak & fries! Some of the other dishes that came out of the kitchen looked great and since the menu has some great choices, we will give it another try -- but not on a weekend and we may opt to sit outside -- only due to potential COVID spreading risk. Too tight & too loud. If I wanted that type of yelling atmosphere, I would have gone to Martorano's.
Must haves: Gastro 22 cocktail, watermelon salad, short rib risotto, and almond joy.
Beautiful place small quaint lovely food and service. Try it you won't be disappointed 🙂!!
The food was delicious. I will definitely be back
What a pleasant surprise- Gastrotheque is a must. From the custom cocktails to the end- everything continued to delight. The watermelon salad visually is pure art and it’s flavors take you through so many layers you can’t help but want even more. The truffle fries the best we have ever had anywhere. The octopus was scrumptious. Yellowtail appetizer with mango and tomatoes was incredible. The entrees did not disappoint either. One of our new favorite places for sure. Only thing missing was the beer selection- very minimal choices, and all bottles no draught. Overall a great dining experience. Daniel our waiter was great as well!
This is a welcome place to Fort Lauderdale for drinks, atmosphere and vibes. The place is lively, the drink menu is very creative and service is very friendly. Plating of dishes is magnificent though I wish I could say the same about the food which was good (especially the salads) but not terrific for the price. Red Snapper was good but the Crab cake was mediocre at best and did not justify a $26 price tag. They pour the best Manhattan in town and for that alone we will be back.
Outstanding service. Creative menu. Octopus appetizer was great!
Service was excellent. Wish I could say the same about food. Octopus was rubbery and not charred. Pork entrée was room temperature when served and very salty. Side item was supposed to be potato with truffles but the item had no flavor and felt like I was chewing watery cardboard. Short rib risotto entrée was bland and risotto texture resembled crunchy rice and was obviously not prepared correctly and/or under cooked. Snapper entrée was decent. We did no order dessert.
Very friendly and competent wait staff. Amazing, inventive food! We were sad to see Canyon move, but couldn't ask for a better restaurant to take over that space. We will be returning again and again!
Newly opened, this place is worth the visit. Gastrotheque has big shoes to fill having taken over Canyon's location on Sunrise and US1. Based on our experience on Saturday night, they are well on their way to making a name for themselves and instead of mourning the loss of Canyon we will be celebrating the gain. Although all of the food we tried was delicious, our favorites included the Truffle Fries, the Smoked Duroc Pork Belly, the Charred Spanish Octopus, the (monster) Sticky Bun, and to drink, the Gastro 22. We have added Gastrotheque to our list of favorites in the city, give it a try, you may as well.
order the pear salad but only one even if there is two of you. It is Gigantic. The Mozzarella Burrata Salad was outstanding also. tasty Move on to the Berkshire Pork Chop which was very tasty and the Filet was delicious. Marvin, our server, was a delight too. Ask for him and you won't regret it.
From the moment we walked in everyone was so accommodating and Gary and Kim made us feel welcomed and were such amazing hosts! And let me tell you, everything was DELICIOUS!!! And I mean everything! What was on my plate, my parents plate, sisters plate lol!! I can’t wait to go back to try more entrees. And OMG that sticky bunnnnnn, I’m still thinking about it :). If it’s not already, Gastrotheque will be the next Hot Spot in Lauderdale. Thanks Micheal our amazing waiter for the great dining experience. We all are looking forward to coming back soon!!
Had a fantastic time at this new Fort Lauderdale restaurant. The staff is great, the food is delicious, and the restaurant is immaculate - adhering to all safety protocols. The beverage team has also created an amazing wine list that has something for everyone. Order your favorite craft cocktail or challenge the talented bar staff to create something just for you. A+++++++
Food was mediocre. Service was excellent. This place is too small to allow all tables to be occupied. Bartenders frequently had masks off as did most patrons sitting at the bar.
Food was amazing! Must try octopus, por belly, chicken, scallops! Everything really .. almond joy amazing
The grand opening... the food was outstanding! You’d think they were open for months. Everything came to our table perfect and the presentation of the entrees etc were exquisite and delicious.. don’t miss the sticky bun dessert.
Awesome service from Marvin! We didn’t know that it was their first night. Food was very interesting and didn’t disappoint. Best appetizer was Hamachi and the pork belly a must try. We only ordered one entree (Pork Chop) that was very juicy and cooked to a perfect medium. We’ll be definitely coming back to try it again.
