Gastroteca Astoria Ratings and Reviews
We were looking for a nice place to eat after dropping somebody off at LGA. Gastroteca was only about 15 minutes away so we gave it a shot. What a find! I so much preferred this to (I'm sorry) the usual Greek fare in Astoria. Pleasant, subdued atmosphere, interesting food and wine, excellent service. What more could you ask for? I'll be back for sure.
Ordered a California eggs benedict with home fries and a garlic-jalepeño bloody mary (it had some cute name but I forget). Service was good, food was very nicely prepared. Nothing to complain about but nothing remarkable either - pretty much what you would expect for the price point. The bloody Mary was disappointing. Lots of spice but not enough flavor & sort of watery. Served with pickled cauliflower, which was nice but really could have used some quality large green olives. It was not loud in there, definitely easy have a conversation and catch up with a friend. Atmosphere was spacious yet cozy and cute, not an easy combo to pull off. I would definitely go again. I would try a different drink.
My daughter and I found this restaurant on Open Table and decided to try it. So happy we did! Our waiter was friendly and very knowledgeable. We tasted a couple of wines and she was able to recommend a bottle based on our opinions. It was amazing. We ordered 3 crostinos to share as well as salad, pasta, and dessert. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting in Astoria. I will eat here again on my next trip.
A great gastro-pub. Drinks were excellent, wine list was good and reasonably priced. Food was different and creative. Well prepared. Service was excellent and I liked that the waiters catered to not only their tables but to everyone dinning who needed anything. We sat outside but inside looked comfortable.
Caught up with my bestie here for brunch; nice and quite, and the staff doesn't rush you out if you want to just keep sitting and chat. Food was good; I had the breakfast stromboli (an appetizer) with a side of home fries. Chef was accommodating of my request for scrambled eggs on the side instead of a fried egg on top of the stromboli, which I appreciated. The only thing I could stay as a con was that their coffee and tea cups were TINY TINY and so I ordered a second cup of tea, because the first did not satisfy... and they charged me for 2 teas ($3.00 each) which I just thought was a little crazy given how small the cups were.
This was a Sunday evening and the weather was great for eating outside. Despite being at a busy intersection, the noise level was good for conversation. The waiter was extremely helpful and attentIve. The food was great, the pasta is homemade and was prepared perfectly al dente. Would definitely recommend.
Prior to checking out the place, I had high hopes for the menu and was looking forward to trying new dishes that I haven't seen before. However the execution of plates ordered were sub-par, poor presentation, average meal at best, and over priced for the meal. Cute spot but the food is not of great quality.
Lovely local spot. Extremely comfortable padded seating. Unfortunately, three of the entrees that we requested were unavailable, which seemed odd for an early Wednesday evening. However, the meals we chose were delicious. As far as the noise level, there was a group of friends at the bar who were extremely loud (probably teachers celebrating the last day of school!). I imagine that when patrons behave themselves, the noise wouldn't be a problem, but there were numerous times when we couldn't even hear ourselves and we were completely across the room from the bar. The service was outstanding, from the hostess who greeted us, seated us, and thanked us upon our departure, to our waitress who was extremely attentive and responsive. Considering we were a table of 6, I was impressed that additional staff assisted to make sure that all meals were delivered at the same time. A big plus is the seating options: sidewalk seating, bar, dining area, and quiet/private right rear dining. Will definitely be going again!
Loved the restaurant! The atmosphere and ambiance was great. Knowledgeable staff and awesome service. I love my appetizer, we orders the huge rice ball. My entree was so-so. Very unimpressed by my pasta dish. I will go back for a second try being that my company loved their entrees.
My husband and I went this past Saturday for dinner. He had the cotoletta and I had the cavatelli - both were delicious but the cotoletta was really good! Initially, when we sat down we found the music tad loud, albeit because we didn't like the song that was playing. All in all, a fun and good evening was had.
