A fresh take on french classics. Great steak tartar and braised beef short ribs
Great place for French food! The duck and steak tar tar was my favorite. Wait staff was also very nice.
This restaurant surpassed my expectations. We were there for New Years Eve 2018. The ambience was Paris like, slightly dark (in a good way), and full of touches of wood and a tin embossed ceiling. Our service was nice. The hostess was very pleasant and sophisticated. Our cocktails luscious, the appetizer of charred octopus with vegetables tender and bright. Our wine an excellent moderately priced Bordeaux was fruity and bold with a smooth mouth feel. A great match for the confit of duck and short ribs . Both entrees were of course French but interpreted with a California sense. Desert was a hazelnut chocolate gelato, dense and smooth interspersed with fresh berries. The wine Muscat de Beaumes de Venise, a lovely French desert wine had flavors of fresh fruit and sugar.
Everything the decor, service, and food and wine was lovely and perfect for a special evening.
We have eaten here several times and have always been quite happy. However after a major miscommunication we were not happy with the table choice and left. They had made an effort to contact us but only one not the many the waitress had stated. Was not pleased with the attitude of the first person who tried to seat us but was much more pleased by the second who followed up. WE did contact you to say we would be coming as you asked us to.
Walking into Gaspar Brasserie, I am reminded of a brasserie in Paris where I dined...except there are no dogs. The restaurant exudes such an air of authenticity, at least for me. Most importantly, their food was wonderful. I had the roasted chicken, which was tender and flavorful. And their pumpkin soup had just enough spices that it didn't overwhelm.
My friend had the steak frites, but he had to confirm with the waiter that the bordelaise sauce was made the traditional way, without flour or similar wheat products, as he was allergic to gluten. The waiter confirmed, and when the dish was served, there was salad instead of pomme frites on his plate. The waiter explained that, unfortunately, wheat based items where cooked in the same fryer, so they could not serve the fries. While disappointing, the attention to this detail was very appreciated.
Ooh la la! I am looking forward to visiting again to try a different French dish!
We come here every quarter.
Rude waitress. Maybe it’s french
The vinaigrette almost killed it was so strong and straight from the vinegar bottle on the citrus salad. The pâté tasted like it had been uncovered in a refrigerator far too long.
The French fries and octopus were fantastic
Overall, a wonderful French brasserie. Wish they had seared fois gras, but menu items were delicious.
Nice menu. Love the oyster and bubbles option and our server kindly split it between 2 of us. We split a croque madam and that was more than enough.
The place is nice- the food was sub par and the waiter gave us the wrong dishes. Not recommended
I found Gaspar by accident, but what a pleasant surprise. It's like a little slice of Paris! I'll definitely go back!
Unfortunarely upstairs brasserie closed to private party and our party seated at table by front door in downstairs bar bistro with terrible acoustics and too loud jazz trio so we couldn't have any conversation. I would NOT have booked Gaspar had I known! Never will go back.
Excellent service and good experience
Gaspar is a fantastic place for drinks that lead to dinner... whether you stay at the bar or ask for a table. The staff is a very nice, making you feel like they see you every week. Can't say that about most SF restaurants/bars any longer.
Had a business dinner. The food was delicious. I had the duck breast which was very tasty. The vegetables that accompanied it was well done. The other person enjoyed his steak frites. It was cooked well. Fries were just ok, much better than going to a fast food place. The service was outstanding. Very attentive service by the staff. Will definitely return
I don’t know how this meal could have been better. We needed something quick but tasty, and the crispy duck with lentils and vegetables (for me) and the pork chop with vegetables (for my husband) were perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a smallish but very well chosen wine list. We were served in 20 minutes. We sat in the bar and were very cozy and comfortable despite the blustery fog outside. This is an under-appreciated gem of a restaurant!
Food was good, although I think the original restaurant is the better of the two and more intimate.
My wife and I came here to celebrate our anniversary; the staff was more than accommodating and the food was absolutely magnificent. I had pre-ordered a few hors d'oeuvres along with a bottle of champagne (via special instructions on open table) and the servers coursed it out for us perfectly. Rather than a single server, we had a team of servers making sure our evening was unforgettable and our glasses were never empty. I can't wait to come back and try the other menu items we didn't have room for. We're so happy that we chose Gaspar to help us celebrate - THANK YOU!!
Excellent service and ambiance ! Food is high quality. Great wine list with good value choices.
Excellent find. Recommended by a good friend. Interior decor is awesome. Everything was great but at 10pm lights on and out the door! Why don’t restaurants stay open later in SF?
Bonne musique et bonne cuisine à peu près française. Trop salé.
My second-time to have dinner at Gaspar Brasserie. Loved it. The waiter and the waitress who served our table were friendly and professional.
I think it is a great place in Downtown.
I will definitely come back.
A wonderful harmony of music and food, the pleasant and tranquil lighting, and the friendly and cordial attention given to us at the Gaspar Brasserie made the evening unforgettable. An elegant setting for any occasion that warrants reminiscing on afterwards, this place deserves five stars all the way!
Authentic French cuisine cooked to perfection!
Just wasn't worth the hefty price tag. Food and drinks were good, just a little expensive for my taste.
Unexpected fantastic restaurant find to celebrate Bastille Day.
Visiting San Francisco as part of a USA holiday. Lucky that our last minute booking for Bastille Day was at Gasper a fabulous French Restaurant in the financial district of the city.
Exceptional service from our waitress, explaining the specialities of the house helped to make sure our dinner was memorable.
Fabulous fresh cuisine enjoyed by the three of us. Entrée Oysters and snails for the boys paired with a lovely French champagne whilst I enjoyed Croquettes de Brandade . I quickly started on a superb Grenache 2016 Domaine Juliette Avril, Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Sweetbreads as a main course for my husband. Cannot remember what our friend had as I was enamoured with my fabulous Confit de Canard which went well with Grenache.
Rounding off our dinner, my husband enjoyed the special Bastille Day dessert. My friend and I shared the Cheese.
Being Bastille Day, there was a fabulous jazz band adding to the ambience enjoyed by us and a full house upstairs and downstairs in the restaurant.
We had planned to revisit Gasper Brasserie on Friday 27 July for the happy hour oysters and to enjoy another memorable meal. Unfortunately a flight delay meant we missed out this time. Hope to be back in San Francisco soon to enjoy another memorable meal at Gasper Brasserie.
Awesome food and place
There was a jazz band that was quite good, but a bit loud- food and service great! Small intimate bistro. Hey
Chef Morales is a master! You will be tasting a myriad of tantalizing flavors and textures if you give his menu a go.
The food was exceptionally amazing! The waiter had a great wine choices since they were all Italian and just knew where to hit the spot! I fell in love with the bone marrow. We shared family style and it was the best part of our night!
It was the perfect quiet romantic date night 💕
Awesome service and food, we will go back for next business trip.
Love going to lunch here as a splurge!!! Great service and drinks!!!!
Awesome and I will return.
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding. I also loved the quiet, old fashioned elegance of the restaurant (sat in the upstairs level). Sometimes French restaurants can be a bit too fancy-shmancy for me, but Gaspar was very down-to-earth. Classy without any hint of pretension. I can see this becoming my go-to French restaurant in the future!
Great little place for happy hour and oyster deals! Nice ambiance, attentive service, excellent cocktail and wine selection, and well priced. Wish Happy Hour lasted till 7pm, just a half hour longer, but still a terrific value.
Loved Samantha! Great place
