Gaslamp Fish House

The food was very ordinary, requiring more seasoning of any kind. The server was in such a hurry to serve someone else, he must have forgotten that his purpose to be there was to serve the customer he was addressing. He got our orders wrong, because he was in too big a hurry to listen to our request.
I was very disappointed. The food was mediocre at best. The shrimp cocktail was over salted and the lobster tacos were not that great either. We were told the chef was in training, but they should have had someone backing them up. I hope that whomever is in the kitchen gets their act together, because this was a wasted night out for me.
Seriously needs some proper management at this establishment. Was seated at a booth, then asked by a different hostess to move to a table because the booth was “reserved” for the group she was seating. My husband was given the wrong dinner after waiting 40 minutes for our food. No toilet paper in the women’s restroom. Saving grace was our waitress. She was very sweet and gave us as good of service as she could even though the kitchen did not have their act together. It was 8 pm, and the place was not crowded. Then I received an email saying they had reported me to OpenTabke for not showing up for my reservation. Seriously? Let’s get some better management in there. We won’t be back.
Service was great and the food was lovely. Highly recommended if you are looking for a place that actually cares for their guests. Plus the clam chowder was gluten free and delicious.
Very casual, but the food is upscale and really good. The drinks are great too. Service was outstanding.
We enjoy the Gaslamp Fish House. We liked Spike Africa before it. They have great people and make good drinks. Tonight was just off. I ordered the Lobster Roll. It came as a normal sandwich on toasted wheat bread. The components were there, less the tasty, crispy split-top "roll". It was unfortunate and bland. My wife came for Fish however, she prefers cod over mahi mahi, so she had a burger. It was very good.
Fish House: Please revisit your lobster roll. The best example I suggest can be found at Ironside Fish & Oyster in Little Italy. Good luck!
Bad smell inside.
I went there to lunch with a group of friends before seeing a play at The Lyceum. I absolutely loved the ahi salad I ordered and the "Stay Classy San Diego" bourbon drink! If fact, I liked that drink so much that I went back after the play and had another one!
Everything was good except my wife’s salad.
The staff and service was great, the weather was nice but cool and we were able to eat outside near the gas flame heaters. The food and drinks we had were good; I had the seafood pasta and my wife had the shrimp fajitas. We would both order these meals again. They made a very good Old Fashioned. This place is blend of a nice bar and casual restaurant. It wasn't loud outside but concrete floors and a large crowd inside would probably be noisy. We saw families eating here and they did have menu options for kids.
From the instant I entered this bright, airy city restaurant, I was delighted by the exquisite attentive service and the beautiful menu choices. I enjoyed the ceviche, black mussels and oysters. Each dish was served with great pride by Lisa, who also recommended some fine beverages (Cadillac Marg). I loved the proximity to the Balboa Theater and Horton Plaza.
All food was super fresh, lovely presentation and the atmosphere was festive on the open patio.
The food was good but the service was very poor. I would recommend the restaurant due to its unique atmosphere and location. Perhaps more help on busier nights would rectify the problem.
Good food, slow service. Arrive way early if you have anywhere to go... we arrived, ordered our cocktails and appetizers, they arrived fine but we waited a solid hour before our 1 entree arrived (the special for the night)...
One meal was great, but the other two were not - the crab was old and tasted awful.
It was okay, a good lunch or happy hour spot for sure, but I’m not so sure about dinner. We did get two appetizers - highly recommend the shrimp cocktail and brussel sprouts! Drinks were slow to be served (sat with empty glasses for too long), but the food came in a reasonable amount of time and those kitchen servers were great. Had the Surf & Turf, steak was perfect but there were so many pieces of lobster tail shell in the meat it was unappetizing. Would go again, but probably just lunch or happy hour like I said.
Service and food were great. I do not recommend patio seating.
1st trip to San Diego & wanted seafood. Found this place by just wandering around Gaslamp. Pre dinner cocktails were interesting & tasty. I had crab cakes that were good, nicely presented. Husband had the swordfish which was excellent. I also had the roasted brussel sprouts which were dressed with bacon , very yummy. It was my husband's birthday and our waiter gave him a bowl of ice cream with homemade caramel sauce. Nice touch. I would definitely go back.
All in all it was good
A little loud as the evening wore on but to be expected on a Saturday nigt.
I had the sea bass. Although the crab filling was very good, the overall flavor was not that great. The sriracha-flavored lemon butter was too spicy, but the waiter kindly brought me some regular lemon butter (much better). What I disliked most about the meal was that the sea bass was not fully cooked in the middle (I just left a small heap of somewhat raw fish on my plate). Also, the veggies were too 'al dente' for me, even though I usually like them that way. They were just too hard to eat!
The food was great and I thought the atmosphere was great as well. Fun place to go for happy hour. Friendly service. I would definitely go back or recommend it to someone.
Went for a Friday night light supper before a show. Nice, casual seafood house, no pretense, just good food. Split some happy hour apps - winner was bacon wrapped swordfish bites, then had good chowder and fish and chips. Nice big pieces of tender cod, excellent fries. Would return for a casual meal that was reasonably priced. Excellent service as well!
Casual very central restaurant, with excellent service. From arrival to departure. More than decent wine list. Food was very good, with our party of five ordering varied dishes, with everyone happy with the choice. Recommend for a group.
Great food, great service, great atmosphere, great location.
Our waiter Max was fantastic. Bartender was indifferent. Food was cold (not Max’s fault). Lobster rolls aren’t rolls. Overall the four of us where blah. If only place open we’d go back, but since they aren’t, no. Hope Max winds up somewhere we like, did I mention he was the one good thing we can say?
Food and service are down from couple years ago. Very disappointed.
Very bland, overpriced, seafood - you can do better in San Diego.
Food overpriced for the Applebee’s type feel of the place
Our reservation was for 7 we arrived early and they were able to seat us. The staff were all friendly and attentive. The food arrived hot and fresh. Salad dressing very tasty and the staff rushed around like a bunch of busy bees!
Calimari, fries, oyster and King crab legs. Bomb food! I would definitely recommend this place
Oysters were not good. After having them in several other places in San Diego, very disappointing. Waited quite awhile just to see the hostess. Then drinks took forever.
Yes we can
Excellent food, helpful and attentive service and great overall dining experience. Thanks!
Happy Hour is the best in downtown San Diego. Well prepared, quite good and not skimpy.
Fabulous find in the Gaslamp. Max was great and the food wonderful. Will be returning soon.
Our waitress was superb! The brussel sprouts appetizer was great ! Our main course was Sea Bass. Everything was presented on time and we never felt rushed ! Our go to place when we are at Civic Center.
Great catch of the day (mahi-mahi on this night). The chef agreed when asked to make a small ice-cream and chocolate sauce dessert option instead of the much bigger ones. Service was really disappointing though. The poor waitress was run ragged serving way too many tables. I had to ask for water half-way through the meal and by the time I got my second glass of wine I was almost done.
The Ribeye was over cooked & the crab was fishy. The Brussel sprouts were delishous.
Great experience from start to end. Hostess was extremely gracious, server made sure our grandson got his food before ours to keep him busy. The fish was fresh and very tasty with great acompaniements.
The food was not that great for the price. I look and feel is very romantic.
