Gaslamp Fish House

My steak was great fit my surf and turf but lobster was cold. My wife had libster tacos and the filling was tasty but they were served in grocery store "Old El Paso" shells. Why??
We made a reservation for Valentine's Day 2020 and we were so happy with our choice!
FOOD - Fantastic! We started with the Calamari and shrimp cocktail. The calamari was served more as big meaty pieces, breaded, in a sauce. We were sceptical at first but after the first bite, we were sold! It was fantastic! We then had the Blackened Ahi and the Sesame Crusted Albacore. They were cooked to perfection! Can't tell you how pleased we were with the meal!
SERVICE - We were put off a bit at first because even with a reservation, we had to wait in line outside. But it moved quick and we have to say, their hostess did an amazing job! She was quick, attended to everyone, and even bused tables if needed to get the people inside. Once seated, we were immediately greeted by a very nice and cheerful server. Given that it was a crazy busy night, our food arrived at lightning speed! We were so impressed.
We will definitely be coming back!
Excellent service and great ambiance. I would definitely visit this place again. .
Great! Will go back 100%
Overall very happy with this experience. Will definitely be going back! The truffle Parmesan fries are AMAZING!!!
I keep forgetting not to eat in "tourist neighborhoods" when I travel. Well, I let me guard down again this week and went to San Diego's "Gaslamp" district. Why I was expecting something special at the Fish House, I don't know, but I only have myself to blame.
Ate at the bar (which I do when I travel alone as not to tie up a table on the floor - I used to be in the "business" and I try be a considerate customer). The bartender was not very attentive, even though there were only 4 or 5 of us seated at the bar, and the dining room was about 30-40% full, so it was not a crazy night by any means.
The food was very average, and the bartender had this really bad habit of throwing glass bottles into the garbage bin in a way that somehow made their crash into the bin as loud as possible. Hey, when you've got customers within 10 feet of that garbage pail, be a little considerate and try not to damage their hearing while they're sitting at your bar. The really loud crash of a bottle every couple of minutes really ruined what would have otherwise been a passable experience.
Oh well. Lesson re-learned.
Great meal. Would definitely go there again.
Dinner for my wife’s birthday. Experience was excellent!
We came for dinner and I ordered the lobster bisque and the seafood cobb salad. My daughter ordered the garden pasta and added shrimp. The lobster bisque was okay--too much cream. The seafood crab salad was made from bagged romaine lettuce and just did not taste fresh. The menu stated that the Garden Pasta had a champagne sauce and roasted vegetables. When the dish was delivered, there were no roasted vegetables and the sauce tasted like straight up cream without any seasoning or champagne. We would go there for the happy hour drink prices but not for food ever again.
Our waiters. Yes it was nice as there was a lot of attention. One from Italy one from France they were both wonderful
Beautiful presentation of food, good sangria, very good service. My fish was generous with a good curry sauce but the fish itself over salted. Vegetables and rice were very good.
The ambiance was busy, louder than most restaurants. The service was efficient as we had a concert to catch at Spreckles 2 blocks up. The food was good. I had the crab cakes and they were on point. My partner had the special fish plate for the day. For four with 2 dinners, two appetizers, non-alcoholic drinks, and a bowl of clam chowder, the cost was $100
Mediocre food and service. It was good to be in San Diego’s Gaslamp district but there are better restaurants.
Oysters were a joke. So tiny & what they charged was insulting. Unlikely to come back
Outstanding - from the guac and chips, calamari and scallops not to mention the old fashion - I was one happy foodie! Oh and the service - phenomenal!
We had a reservation, but were probably earlier than the typical crowd as the reservation clearly was not needed. We were initially seated in the back room, but the smell was strong (obviously it's a fish place so that makes some sense) and despite it being Saturday night (NFL playoffs) the TV in that room had something odd on - the game was on in the bar area. We asked to move to the bar area. It was much more pleasant (no odor). The table and menus were a bit sticky, but again, it's a bar and fish place so to be expected. The server was super - attentive, had great food recommendations, and was prompt. The food was delicious! Fresh fish, large portions, good drinks - all the most important aspects of dining out were super. We would return for a casual dinner.
Happy hour changed to 6 pm cut off instead of 7 pm. Calamari needs to have more pieces or something else to soak up all the great sauce. Good portions for the special .
Loved the food, great service and a great way to end 2019
Too expensive, poor service, way too loud, 5 of our 6 meals were not good. Not high end food. Would not go back or recommend to anyone
Awesome. Good food. Great vibe.
My husband and I visited during a vacation to San Diego. The menu items were unique and tasty. Everyone working there was friendly and helpful- they were busy, but still worked as a team. And they have REAL mojitos which are hard to find. It was a great date night for us!
Went here to celebrate my 30th Birthday this past weekend. We sat outside they have heaters the location was really nice. The service was great, food was delicious and the price was even better. Will visit again!
We will return next visit to San Diego!
I added to the reservation that it was my friends birthday but I wanted to surprise her, and I still had to tell the server. The lobster tacos had a good amount of lobster in them but were served in store bought type taco shell (awful).
Had to pay extra for bread and butter. The lobster bisque was really good and I would order that again.
Excellent service, great food. Thanks for a wonderful birthday dinner.
Amazing food and wonderful wait staff!
This is our "go to" place prior to attending play at Civic. Service is always good and efficient. Ordered off the Happy Hour menu, brussel sprouts were excellent as well as the calamari and shrimp. I do miss sangria is no longer on happy hour menu?
Our server was very attentive and pleasant. The food on the other hand was overpriced and very poor quality. We got the ribeye stakes and they were about a 1/2 inch thick, not great cuts and certainly not worth 30+ dollars. They were accompanied by decent fries and three slices of canned tomatoes. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Great seafood restaurant right on Broadway near Horton Plaza. The food was amazing and did not disappoint as a fish house!
Overall we had a great experience. The service was nice and the patio had heaters that help keep us warm were perfectly placed not to "burn" one side of our face/bodies. Their happy hour is one of the main reasons we went there. :)
The sea bass was delicious
Great food, large portions, only drawback was that is was a bit noisy and the ambiance and other diners was more casual than to be expected with menu pricing
Second time here, everything was better the first time. Dynamite shrimp was a disappointment. It lacked real spice and had too much bread crumb topping. Macadamia nut crusted calamari didn’t taste at all like macadamia nuts and the oil it was cooked in must have been old. Lobster bisque was good though
Was in town for a boys golf trip, saw the reviews online and booked it. It was everything we hoped for, good vibes, great décor, good menu. One of my buddies is a vegetarian and he had a few options which was bonus.
The food was outstanding and was executed creatively. Flavor and finish were perfect. ! We loved every bite!
The staff was nice and attentive.
The ambiance was authentic and interesting - it was “cute” and not reflective of the top-shelf food quality - which is okay. If you like sharks and pirates, this is your place mï hearty...arrrrgh
For the price of the food, I was expecting higher scale ambiance.
I am sorry to say that it was our first and last visit :-( We tried the calamari, sea bass, fish of the day and all fish dishes smelled awfully fishy and tasted awful. In fact, one of the fish was so bad that we returned it and got a steak instead. If you are not too fussy, then it's okay to go but if you are looking for a good meal, I'd pass ...
If I visit this restaurant again, I will stick to appetizers. The cost of the entrees is way above the quality. I was looking so forward to delicious inspired fish selections. Sadly, nothing special here.
In search of a last minute dinner reservation on a Friday night, my husband and I decided on Gaslamp because it was close to our hotel, had reservation availability, and specialized in seafood. My husband and I split a number of small plates. The mussels and Brussels sprouts were good and plentiful. The macadamia crusted calamari was also good, but an incredibly small portion for the price. It was four small strips of calamari on a plate- not at all worth the high price for such little food. I also would not recommend the lobster tacos, which came in crispy shells. I think the tacos would have been better in soft shells, but even so the lobster meat was very over cooked. We liked our drinks and the service was good, so there were definite positives, but hard to recommend fully with so many outstanding restaurants in San Diego.
