Garfish Crows Nest
This was our first visit to Crows Nest. We had previously been to Kirribilli. We liked being able to make a reservation. Our first reaction was being able to use the large ,free, public car park next door. My wife and I find it hard to go past the schnapper pie - it is always good. It was as tasty as ever, a large pie with plenty of schnapper filling. Our other dishes at the table were a 350gms rump steak and a gluten free chicken - both well received. The cost ,including corkage and sparkling water, was around $100 per couple which we felt was good value for money
We chose to have lunch at Garfish as we knew it had outdoor heating for winter. As soon as we arrived, we requested blankets from the waiter. We then requested the heaters be turned on, as it was a cold day, but we wanted to sit outside. The waiter was unable to get one heater working. Really? Every heater did not work? What's that about? Not going back in winter again.
I’m glad you had us in mind when thinking of places to go where heated outside seating is offered throughout the winter months. It’s unfortunate that in this one instance we could not provide sufficient heating. We have done our best to ensure adequate heating in the outside area i.e. panelled roof heaters, mushroom heaters and windbreaker blinds. On your next visit we will do our upmost to provide a pleasant and warm experience and we hope this hasn’t tarnished our reputation in your mind.
The Service was great, very friendly and efficient. I feel the fish pie was good but could have done with more sauce.
Great evening. The staff were attentive and thoughtful. Will definitely be back!
Had to send one Bottle back because off, Chargrilled Octopus was tough but the rest of Food was great.
Excellent meal with pleasant staff who are polite and attentive Will return
Love this restaurant! Oysters are wonderful, especially the taster plate, fish cooked perfectly, excellent staff, great Margaritas, and the most divine fish pie I have ever had. Hard to go past this one!
Deliciously fresh food. Prompt service with great recommendations of what to order if hard to choose. Great coffee. Will return soon
Hadn't been to Garfish for some time and had forgotten how good the restaurant is. There were 6 in our group and we all thoroughly enjoyed our evening. Food was delicious, our waiter was very knowledgeable as far as food and wine.
We had a lovely dinner celebrating Mother’s Day. Food and service was lovely. The fish is always outstanding.
We had an early MothersDay Lunch with our daughter and son-in-law and were very agreeably
pleased with our choice of restaurant. Because of the acoustic design the sound in the restaurant
is heavily reduced which was very welcome. the staff were very pleasant, a bit forgetful at times
but the food was superb. My husband relished the mussels and the crumbed garfish was a knockout.
We heartily recommend Garfish.
The waiters were great even though the restaurant was quite busy. The food and wine was terrific, we both really enjoyed our aperitfs, and the mixed oyster entree was fabulous.
We shared zucchini flowers stuffed with lobster, he had fantastic snapper pie and I thoroughly enjoyed the Moreton Bay bugs. What more could one ask for.
We are regular diners at Garfish, Crows Nest but for the first time were massively disappointed on this Occassion. Service was slow and our waiter seemed to have the talent of looking in to the diners, but not seeing us or the need for attention.Staff seemed to have changed for the poorer. Maybe it is a management matter.
My friend and I both ordered Entrees X 2 each but for some reason ( we were never asked ) they brought all 4 out all at once.
As both of mine were hot dishes it meant eating the second one cold, not very appetizing.
No apologies but they were aware that this was a mistake.
Could not recommend.
Thank you Jennifer for bringing this to our attention. I have debriefed with the staff working that day and I can only apologize for the handling of this issue and assure you that this falls well short of our usual high standards. I would welcome the opportunity to follow up with you and address the issues. If you wish to, please could you call the restaurant directly (9966 0445) or email me, Jakob, the restaurant manager. We look forward to hearing from you. Warm regards, Jakob Jonsson
The quality of the food has gone backwards since I last ate here about 6 months ago.
Thank you Neil for taking the time to leave your review. I am sorry to hear that your experience was not up to our usual standard as of your visit 6 months ago. Did your waiter touch base to do our usual meal check? We are always more than happy to replace or exchange any dish that a customer is not entirely satisfied with. Look forward hearing back from you. Warm Regards Jakob Jonsson Restaurant Manager
It's our go to date night place. Food is consistent. Service is good. And byo.
Overall a stunning evening food and service were particularly good. The staff were extremely attentive as well.
food very good -- service was amazing -- we were located near the door which may be one reason for the remarkable service !
Starter was superb. Main - bugs had great sauce but seemed a little mushy and underdone. Dessert not a high point. Service was good - not intrusive but prompt. Expensive for a mid week and fairly casual dinner
Always enjoyable at Garfish.
We would rate As 4.5 if we could! We did have to remind them about one item that hadn’t been served
It is always a special night for us at Garfish and food and service always exceed our expectations. Noise level is a problem for me (hearing problem) but you are not alone!
As always perfect place to celebrate a Birthday
And the chef specials this time we’re outstanding
Food was magnificent and they’d changed their menu with some new specials whilst keeping the favourites. Service was great too... thank you, I’ll be back again soon! Johnny
Great atmosphere. Not too busy at the time we went. Food was nice and simple and uncomplicated! At last!! We didn’t have wine so bill came in at a very respectable $120 for 2. That included a shared desert. Highly recommended to all!
Food and service were great. Seating outside was noisy especially for the road (buses etc). No abience.
Delicious food and great service. Garfish is a reliable restaurant. We used to always go to the Kirribilli one before it was closed and were never disappointed.
Gotta try the bugs! Some great wine choices as well.
We have been regular patrons at Garfish Kirribilli until it's closure recently. I am so pleased we chose Crows Nest this time as the restaurant was just as intimate while offering more comfort and space. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly and the food was delicious, served hot and in a very timely manner even though the restaurant was fully booked. The zucchini flower entree was a standout and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their choice of fish and salad. Big tick for the crunchy bucket of chips as well. The BYO charge was as about as reasonable as you can find anywhere on the lower north shore. We will definitely be back.
We really enjoyed a relaxed lunch at Garfish, Crows Nest, the food was beautiful and the staff friendly and attentive.
Always love this place! The one in Kirribilli has a better atmosphere but for parking and simplicity the Crows Nest one is better
Always enjoy Garfish experience but it has got even better.
Good food, good ambience, pleasant attentive service; a good experience
Another great dining experience to add to the six years we have been going to this restaurant. Simple flavours using fresh produce cooked perfectly. Each dish was delicious. Great service with staff demonstrating good knowledge of the menu. No request too difficult. Look forward to our next meal there.
I had heard nothing but good things about Garfish. Many moons ago I myself had a great experience with them. But last Friday night just wasn't the same or up to scratch.
The service was either non-existent or very casual for what you'd expect and to be honest the food wasn't either.
6 oysters - AMAZING but the other two signature dishes we had (Snapper Pie & Whole Snapper) were nothing to write home about. Dry or overcooked etc.
To top it off a storm rolled through, which we laughed off and 100% know that it's no ones fault. But whilst other tables scrambled to move inside or leave. Not a single staff member came to ask if we were ok. Whilst my fiance sat with my suit jacket over her head giggling.
We then took our bottle of wine & two glasses inside and stood next to the kitchen to finish them whilst our table & food got soaked ... Standing there not one person asked if we were ok.
We simply paid and left.
Great food, good service. We'll be back as soon as possible!
We have been before and its always good. We booked and when we arrived we were greeted a little abruptly by a guy in a black outfit (unshaven and his hair in a bun) who asked my name and said we were seated over there - and pointed (did not show us to our table). The table was by an open door with a lot of noise and fumes coming from the adjacent car-park and the bi-fold windows that were opened and the window frames sitting over the seat making it impossible to sit down without hitting them (not a good seat) so he proceeded to seat us outside (when we had asked for an inside table). Not a great start.
We sat at the outside table and we were served by "the reliable Angus" who is a great waiter and his service is 12/10. He is one of the best - then the evening started to look up.
We ordered our drinks which arrived promptly, as did the entree. The scallops were superb. The Snapper Pie came in time (we know it takes time to cook) and it too was superb (as always). Throughout the night Angus kept checking that we were OK and happy.
Prices seem to have gone up a little since the New Year and since the minor renovation.
Overall great service by Angus (that's why the high mark) and exceptional food.
the noise level inside the restaurant made it impossible to have conversation.
The tables being so close together detracted from the ambience as well
