Gare de l'Est
We look forward to welcoming you back as soon as we can do so safely.
An authentic, modern French brasserie in the heart of Toronto’s vibrant east end, Gare de l’Est was named after one of the oldest and largest train terminals in Paris, France. Just steps away from Crow’s Theatre, it offers an extensive menu of traditional French fare and seasonal dishes with a focus on local ingredients.
While the actual space doesn’t offer a means of transportation, its loft-like ceilings, deep hued banquettes and crisp white table clothes, will carry your imagination to whatever destination you desire.

Great brunch! The food and service was excellent. My in-laws really enjoyed it. The live violinist was the perfect addition to brunch. Thanks for a lovely time!
Very disappointed! Our Lattes and food were Luke warm. The salad was 1cup of greens, sprinkle of crushed hazelnuts and small piece of brie $18. The Eggs Benedict and Omelette very bland. Smallest omelette I’ve ever seen and my husband had upset stomach the entire afternoon. No salt/pepper, bread, condiments or jam offered or brought to table.
Really $$70 brunch should be worthwhile….NOT👎
All three meals were cold. My client said the duck was delicious. I ordered the mussels as did her husband and they were awful. At least 25% of mine were inedible. Most were very tiny, a few plump ones (1%). If good mussels are hard to get then they should not be served! Did did re-heat the mussels and the duck . Complimentary desserts - the chocolate cake was delicious, but what was supposed to be Creme Brûlée was a pastry with a dollop of creme brulee . The pastry was almost impossible to cut , especially with a tsp. A dessert fork and spoon would have helped. Our waitress was very nice but an apology was nice but 15 was overboard. For a dinner of mussels and one duck for over $200.00, I expect more. I have been going to Le’gare d’est since it opened and IMO it is not as good as it used to be.
Great serving staff, nice ambience on the patio, good wine list, chicken liver parfait was outstanding... mussels were good. Will be happy to return.
The food and service was excellent - great restaurant!
Extremely mediocre food
Excellent service, delicious food and a great patio. One of our favourite neighbourhood brunch spots.
We just moved to the area and are new to the place. We wanted to try here and have a nice belated anniversary brunch. We were not disappointed.
Our server Vicki was a lovely gem. So wonderful as a server! The hostess was so sweet and sat us at a great little table.
The food was phenomenal. I had the eggs benny and my partner had the ham sandwich. We ended with an espresso.
I honestly can’t wait to go back. Would 100 percent recommend this place any time. Can’t wait to try dinner there soon!
Hate a great Sunday brunch. croque monsieur is highly recommended. Fantastic atmosphere at the Patio with live Sunday Jazz … despite being on Dundas, it was very quiet and cozy
The food is always good. Never disappoints and the service is always great. Our server yestetday was very attentive and auper friendly.
Thé pâté was exceptional, the mains were outstanding. Our party of three enjoyed the steak et frites, the duck and le burger. The Ontario Chardonnay was sub-par but the French Bourgogne was lovely. They had a live duo playing. We were grateful to be sitting far away as the volume was ear splitting. Our server was abrupt, loud and coarse, better suited to a greasy spoon than to an elegant dining experience at Gare. She literally refused to list the wine options and redirected us to the online menu. Very odd and off putting. The attention to food quality and the lovely patio setting more than made up for these flaws.
A very enjoyable meal - we'll be back again!
great wine list, by the glass and bottle
chicken liver parfait was delicious and well balanced
duck was worthy of ordering again
service was strong
live entertainment on the patio
crepe was bland
Great place. Food was delicious and server was friendly a d engaging. We were sitting inside and the AC could have been a little cooler but no big deal.
Gare de L'Est never fails to make every meal wonderful.
Fantastic service and food so good you'll feeling you're melting into your seat.
Was here last covuid summer 2020. Was excellent. This time, warm white wine, gruff discourteous intrusive service, oversalted and stingy duck plate, overcooked undersized mussels in a watery mess with one stale piece of "artisan" bread. When the french fries are the only thing that is reasonably well made. stay away. I never write reviews like this, but it was probably the worst dinner both my GF and I have had in years. As tipping is the custom I stilll did, but really wish I hadn't. Covid is not a good excuse for this experience.
Wonderful to spend my birthday there!
Excellent food and outstanding service - a great patio as well
Fantastic experience from the very professional welcome by hostess to excellent French food and a lovely patio.
Good evening within the social distancing guidelines.
Love this restaurant! The menu leans French but there are other offerings as well.
All the food is good but highly recommend the duck and the creme caramel pastry for dessert.
Post Covid first opening so still bit quiet and spaced
Great night out on the patio which is well covered so the little bit of rain was no problem. Staff and good all top notch
Always a great all round experience ‼️
Went for brunch and it was an amazing! Definitely order the benedicts. The Aperol spritz was a little meh, but the food is great.
We had a wonderful dinner for my wife’s birthday. Great service, a call during the day to warn about possible inclement weather as a heads up. The food and drinks were great as well. Glad to have been back after many months of lockdown.
This was our first time dining at the restaurant - the wait staff was friendly and prompt. None of our three-person party was very impressed with the food. We all had the onion soup to start and we all found it to be overly salty. One of us had the asparagus crepes (meh); one of us had the steak frites (steak served more medium-well than the requested medium-rare); and one us had the moules (very small and salty).
A special request to leave b-day flowers at the table was fully accommodated by the staff, which was very much appreciated. Food was excellent as was the ambience... we will be back.
Cute little spot! Service was excellent, and the brunch menu had some great upscale options.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Gare de l’Est. We had several different wines by the glass and steak tartare. Delightful!
Gare de-l'icious!!!! We had a lovely time and our server Vicky was great. You can bet the entire menu is fantastic
The prix fixe menu was outstanding! This patio is large and the tables are not too close.
Although on Dundas Street East/Carlton, it is removed enough from the street to not be
very noisy. The service (Vicki) was great and the Manager provided good wine suggestions.
I had the lamb special and it was so delicious. The asparagus with pesto was so tasty. Great patio for a get together with
Good food great service. Wish the menu a bit more inclusive.
It was so nice to be back on Gare de l'Est patio! The staff are so knowledgeable and friendly. Nothing is a problem. The wine list is terrific and the menu is versatile but you can't go wrong with anything you order.
Food overall is OK, nothing extraordinary. Deserts are not their strong side, would not recommend.
The food was delicious and the staff were so sweet and helpful. Highly recommend!
I won't suggest you to eat the shakshuka orelse service vice 5/5 .
Had a great dinner here. The food was delicious, service was fantastic, and would definitely recommend to friends and family for a nice night out.
Neat and clean, protected from the rain.
Great menu, attentive service.
Our server Kristen was so friendly and the food was fantastic! So nice to go out again after a long lockdown.
