The Garden Court - Luxury Collection
Large portions for triple the price. Omlet was 3x larger than need be and about 3x as expensive as it should be
The Garden Court at the Palace Hotel is absolutely stunning. The only problem was the very lackluster service. Our waiter forgot spoons for our coffee, water for the table, butter for my toast, etc. It’s little things but they all added up to a less than enjoyable experience. I would say go for the atmosphere. The food
was very average. Did not try the buffet. It looked pretty good. I hear brunch is very special.
great place for lunch. Excellent crab salad and oysters.
fabulous ambiance and wonderful experience
expensive but worth it for a nice quiet lunch
Beautiful hotel! It was talk walking back in time.
First off, multiple parties were seated before us that came in as walk-ins.
The food was over priced. Only 2 vegetarian options and one vegan (if you consider hash browns an option).
The bus boys ever very attentive and polite. The rest of the wait staff was the opposite. We had to flag down the waitress to get absolutely any kind of service. We were able to see our food when it was ready to be served but it took the waitress so long to bring it to us, my friend’s French toast was cold and so were my hash browns.
This visit was to celebrate my husband's 75th birthday. The venue was stunning and the reason for the choice. The food was good and beautifully presented. We to wait a long time for a wait person to come take our order and then he was rushed and got our order wrong. He was a really nice guy and knew it was Dave's birthday and brought a beautiful dessert for the occasion. The Garden Court was so beautiful that we would love to enjoy Tea next time.
It’s an experience!
Over priced, slow service. Nice brunch buffet and a la crate menu
We were so disappointed with our breakfast at The Garden Court. We had a reservation with Open Table and the host stand was a nightmare. People were shouting, there was confusion about every reservation, but finally we were seated. The table we were taken to was a folding 6 top covered with a tablecloth and six folding chairs. It was off to the side of the main dining area and was right next to the bussing station full of dirty dishes. We expressed our displeasure and were told to wait for another table because there were no tables for four available. Right before we were seated we watched a group of four approach the host stand and demand a table due to an error in their reservation time. They were seated at a 4 top we suspect was the table we were supposed to get, so then we got the terrible makeshift table in the corner. When we finally sat down there was a dirty fork under the table. My juice glass had a huge crack and shard of glass missing. We could not believe it. We showed it to the waiter and he shrugged and took it away. No apology, he didn't seem fazed. I ordered mint tea. I was brought camomille tea and reminded him I wanted mint. I was then brought a second pot of camomille tea. I again reminded him I wanted mint. When the waiter took our order he did not write down our entrees. He had to come back to the table to ask again what we wanted. My daughter remembered the beautiful lemon waffles she had ordered there before so she ordered them again and so did my mom. When they arrived they were a soggy mess. The looked nothing like the last time she had ordered them, they were lacking garnish and the whipped ricotta topping had melted into puddles under the heat lamp. They looked pathetic. The waiter heard us complaining about the lack of garnish so he later brought the garnish in a small dish halfway through our meal. The entire experience was completely disappointing. Terrible service, lack of attention to detail and subpar food at outrageous prices.
Perfect for our Sunday morning brunch! Great selection of food and great, fresh squeezed orange juice!!!
Great experience for High Tea! We went to celebrate a birthday and they brought a cake and candles.
Would recommend for its location and historic art value. But not for food or service.
The only part of this experience I was disappoint in was that there was nothing special for our birthday celebration. A child next to us received a dessert with a little candle and I was hoping for some acknowledgment of our special birthday girl’s 16th birthday. I will most likely not bring birthday guests here in the future.
Although the furniture (table chairs) are modern overall atmosphere maintains the SF Victorian opulence. The buffet is good quality but you are also paying from for the view. The buffet ($40) is the best value compared to ordering off the menu. Went on a Sat at 9:30 AM I had reservation for breakfast thus no wait others had a 10min wait without reservation. If you want appreciate the view and are not rating are welcome to simply visit the lounge area (other half of the room).
The Garden Court is an amazing space to dine in. It's expensive but food choices + quality were excellent. The service was outstanding as well.
Great food--excellent waiter-Robert. Very pricey bu
Condescending servers, unpalatable food, nice decor
The Garden Court is a delightful place for special occasions. It was quiet the weekday we were there which was nice for a change from some restaurants where you can hear your table mates.
My lunch was delicious.
I have done the high tea service several times and have always been extremely pleased.
Part of the fun is the treatment by the staff, which has always been very good. Unfortunately this time the service was less than adequate. It took our server 20 minutes to get us a glass of water . as a matter of fact we all had our hot tea before any water arrived at our table. Maybe he was having an off day., but the only time he offered a smile was when he.brought the bill. The rest of the staff was fine it was just our server. As I said maybe he was having an off day, but we were left less than thrilled which has never been the case before with The Palace.
This great and beautiful place deserves TABLECLOTHS. Not only is it more elegant, it is more sanitary. It’s ridiculous to have cheap plastic placemats in a place like this. Wiping down a table with a rag should be reserved for inexpensive burger places, not a world class restaurant. Other than this, truly enjoyed the lunch.
Food - average. Lobster roll is disappointing. It’s rather a sandwich. It’s curry flavor, can’t taste the lobster flavor. Not recommended.
Beautiful ambiance. Delicious brunch. Great service.
The food was very disappointing and extremely expensive for the quality.
I can always count on the Garden Court to provide my guest and me a place where we can hear each other speak, where we have a varied menu from which to choose, and where we can savor the food and whatever we drink in peace, at our own pace. If the conversation is good, we can continue it until we're pleasantly finished. No rush, no hustle and bustle, no jarring moments. It's so good.
The setting is gorgeous. The food is very average.
Went to a Sunday brunch for a birthday celebration No one acknowledged the special event.
The waiter assigned us was horrible. My husband is vegetarian, he was given no option at all. Waiter could had easily given him grilled veggies or other option..but no he was too busy doing nothing. We ordered cafe latte...which the waiter forgot about, until we reminded him. I would not have breakfast at this place again.
We went for the afternoon tea service. The service was good but not great. Our server was not able to share information about the tea sandwiches. He was nice but was not very interested in talking with us about what to expect. He was not able to share much about the various teas.
We were seated but there were 2 big flies on our table so it put us off. Plus the sandwiches seemed to be pre-made and didn’t taste very fresh.
The overall experience of a high tea was underwhelming especially when we paid so much for it. The quality of the food and the service were not worth the money!!
Fantastic service and food. The Garden Court was absolutely beautiful
Absolutely stunning and gorgeous place to have breakfast. However, there was not many selections on the buffet for the cost. The eggs benedict were always out so our table never got any. Not worth the price of breakfast, but a nice place to have tea or maybe drinks??
Great experience. Luxurous
Service was very attentive. Food was nicely presented but I have to say the crab salad wasn’t as delicious as branded or as others say. I think the skirt steak was more tasty as well as the salmon. The place is elegant and grandiose. Overall it was a special place for birthday celebration for my mom.
Very impressive place! The architecture is unbelievable. The food and service was fantastic! Great experience!
Beautiful breakfast in an awe-inspiring atmosphere
Can’t wait to go again .
I recommend The Garden Court.
This is beautiful dining room: historic, elegant, one-of-a-kind. The service was very good. The food, however was only so-so. I had the crab salad and asked if the crab was fresh; the server replied it was from a can, but people seemed to like it. It was only OK, not tasty or succulent. The kitchen seems to focus on beautiful presentation, but the food should be better for the price. The breads served were very good. We go to the Garden Court to relax and talk and enjoy this amazing Garden Court. No reason the food can't be excellent, too.
It is simple the grandest dining room west of Chicago's Palmer House. Family and I have been going there since WWII. I was sorry to see the very elegant room has been furnished with contemporary furniture. It is a somewhat jarring clash given the grandeur to se conference room chairs, rbales, adn sofas. But it is the Garden Court and it always wins. Service is impeccable from wiatpersons who have been there for sometime and those in training very attentive. Food remains high quality and not "refrigerator magnet" portions as so many restaurants do.
My husband and I went for breakfast when we were in town for a trip. The hotel is amazing. I think it’s a must just for the atmosphere. We had the buffet and it was great! nothing over the top food wise but everything you’d want!
Underwhelming, wish they still had the buffet
SKIP THIS PLACE. If you want English tea charm, go to Lovejoys over on Church (less costly and very English). If you want elegance, go to the Ritz. The Palace afternoon tea is classic superficial glitz that is not worth $68 plus a huge tax. Scratch the surface and see their tarnish. We had a very unaccommodating waiter. Our tea water was replenished only when we flagged another waiter to assist. The sandwiches were clearly made awhile back and allowed to sit and dry out in the refrigerator. Very uninspired food and drink and very poor service, which together destroyed the otherwise lovely setting. Life is short. Choose wisely.
Went to high tea with 8 friends for my birthday. I went a few years ago and I feel like there is less food now. They used to serve larger scones and pastries before the sandwiches, now it’s smaller scones served after with the desserts. Also the service was poor - we never got iced water and never had our tea refilled (even after asking multiple times). One friend arrived 10 minutes late and was never brought any food or tea for 30 minutes; we had to keep asking. The issue is there are no waiters assigned to your table - so you have to flag someone down. Which is very annoying, especially given the expensive price. I will say they sang happy birthday to me while the harpist played, and gave me a crown which was special. I still think it’s a gorgeous place for a special occasion but they need to up the service.
We were celebrating our 50th anniversary. The experience at the Garden Court was wonderful. Our waitress asked if we were there for a special occasion when we informed her of our anniversary she congratulated us and unexpectedly brought a special dessert compliments of the house.
We had a leisurely Sunday brunch there with exquisite ambiance and excellent service. Food was wonderful.
