Amazing service and high quality food.
It would have been nice to have a full menu instead of a Fixe Prix Menu with limited choices. Food was so-so and atmosphere was very distracting as the staff set up for afternoon tea.
Nice dining space. Food ok. The restaurant just did not have enough people working there.
As a titanium elite hotel guest with a reservation, there was a wait for the table. And, when we finally got to the table, they put 3 of us in a table for two. Nice and tight and an incomplete setting for the “added” seat.
We opted for the buffet. The food was ok to good, but probably not worth the price. The dishes were not replenished when they were gone, so there’s a wait for that too. Not an isolated incident but just empty dishes throughout.
For buffets, the wait staff only needs to replenish and clear plates. We had to wait so long for drinks (coffee, juice & water) to be replenished. Our server was nice but very busy, so it was hard to be comfortable when you’re always having to ask/flag somebody down. The bus person was very nice too, but not really a fine dining type of person, so you’ll have to explain that you wanted water and not juice. Since they go around with pitchers of juice and coffee, it throws them off when you ask for water or tea.
Nice place, nice staff, just not enough of them. Too annoying at this price point.
Not worth paying $120 per person for afternoon high tea. The mini sandwiches tasted ok. Sandwich bread were kind of dry. The champagne glass I got was WET! Water drip down from the glass bottom to my hand.
Anyways, the lounge is gorgeous. You may walk in to take some photos, but don’t come to have high tea here. You will he disappointed.
Great for a mother daughter lunch!
My mother and I booked a room for the weekend at the palace hotel for my birthday. I made reservations for the Garden Court brunch. It was very beautiful. There was virtually no wait even though it was busy. The French toast was delicious. Many people say the eggs are amazing, but I thought it was just okay. The service was very good. The wait staff was very attentive and made sure our cups were never empty. I forgot to take brunch pictures...
Lovely afternoon tea. Exceptional service. Food was all very well done. Just disappointed that the decor in the Garden Court has changed - really preferred the old setting for tea versus the new modern look.
Bad bad food
Memorable experience. However, later that evening at home rec'd alarming text from my bank that someone tried using the same cc in Florida vs. Garden Court. Perhaps a coincidence but thought you should know. Damage contained, all good.
Awful experience, 5 small sandwich slices, 2 tiny scones, 1 white chocolate strawberry, 1 small cookie & 2 small tarts for a whacking great $68. Complete rip-off. They should visit the UK & see what afternoon tea is really like.
Our server cleared away the cake tray before we had even finished.
Will never be back & wouldn’t recommend to anyone.
We haven’t been to the Palace for afternoon tea in a few years and it’s evident from the quality of food/service that times have changed. The price for the regular tea service went up ($68) which we wouldn’t have minded if the food was worth it. The size of the scones are now the size of a small chocolate chip cookie. One of the tea sandwiches was an egg salad, another was a sandwich made with lunch meat. Didn’t expect that from the Palace. The strawberries used for the chocolate covered strawberries were not even ripe or sweet.
The server that delivered our tray for the sweets decided to reach over me rather walk around to the other side of the table where the empty seat was to place the tray down. Needless to say, her sleeve grazed on of my sandwiches which made the topping fall on to the table. She didn’t apologize but instead she just said, “it’s just the topping”. Wow, really? This is the same person that was setting the table next to us and instead of touching the tea cups by the handles she was gabbing them by the rim with her bare hands. Gross!
We had a leisurely long breakfast buffet.
Get together with friends.
Fantastic morning with friendly staff and great value for money.
There was a gross insect in my $39 salad. They gave me a new salad, but if they had any class they would have also removed the charge from my bill. I didn't ask them to, because I felt that I shouldn't have to ask. So, food with insect in it, no class. I won't go back or recommend it.
Phenomenal location and ambiance. Excellent Sunday brunch. The bacon is crunchy and the berries are large and flavorful. The service is attentive. The crab/spinach eggs benedict was perfect. Yum.
This was the breakfast buffet at the Palace Hotel. Reservations are highly recommended, as it was crowded and it was a wait. The only downside if that it was the same food served everyday. This was not expected of a luxury hotel.
This was the breakfast buffet in the Palace Hotel. The food was good. Service was very attentive.
Brunch, food excellent, amazing setting, service solid, high noise.
Being in the most beautiful room imaginable with the most fabulous food, waiters, flowers-it’s all from another era. I was so thankful to be able to enjoy it all. Keep it all up!
We ordered the buffet Sunday breakfast and the scrambled eggs and eggs Benedict were ice cold (not even slightly warm). Perhaps your sternos were no longer working? The French toast was also cold and so dry I had difficulty cutting it with a knife...it was inedible. The desserts were very good though! Our waiter was kind, and he did give us a break on the bill which was nice.
The opulent atmosphere is a pleasure, but the service was lackadaisical and the food was old. I am not sure how since they only do tea one time a week but they led with brown strawberries followed by stale sandwiches and lemon curd with a fine film formed over the top from sitting out too long. Just walk through to take in the view because at $69 per person it was a disappointment.
the server was very kind
The ambiance and experience of high tea at The Garden Court is unmatched in San Francisco. The quality and selection of teas are outstanding and the assortment of savory sandwiches and pastries are well-proportioned and provide a variety of flavors. The kitchen was also able to accommodate vegetarian diet needs for the sandwiches. Perhaps it was an off day when I went, but there seemed to be little communication between the concierge and wait staff as our diet requests (which we made at the time of the reservation) and cocktail orders weren't communicated well between the two.
Service was mediocre. Sandwiches were a bit dried out. Scones and desserts were great. Beautiful setting.
Overall it was a beautiful setting. We did have a glitch in our order, but I think that was because they restaurant with short on staffing.
Thank you for helping me make my mom's 70th birthday surprise lunch a wonderful and fun experience. Our server, Robert, was awesome and handled our table brilliantly, especially has most were arriving from various areas around the Bay Area (not too mention flying in from Atlanta!). Thank you again, it was a fantastic day!
Highly enjoyable atmosphere with great light and acoustics. 5 star service.
Would revisit in a heartbeat.
Service very good
We had a nice afternoon tea experience however my friend debit card was overcharged and after a week and a half and 3 telephone calls we are still calling and asking for a refund and WHY her debit card was overcharged more than double. very upsetting !
Service was amazing! Some of the best service I've experienced. Coffee and juice were never empty. I had the wagyu burger and my wife had the omelette. Both were not good at all. My burger was cold and dry. Fries were warm, though. Bloody Mary was one of the best I've had.
Beautiful place, and the food was outstanding!!
We had a lovely time once again. Our only complaint would be our waiter. He paid little attention to us, never coming back to see if we needed a coffee refill or anything else. He was a disappoint, but after 45 years of receiving wonderful service here one one poor waiter did not spoil our celebration.
A beautiful experience, although certainly expensive. We always have the Sunday brunch at Christmas time, and it was a pleasure to have much less crowds. The scallops were among the best I have ever had.
It’s better to order breakfast from the breakfast bar versus ordering à la cart. It took too long to be served à la cart. I was hosting 10 people for breakfast. Half the table went with the breakfast bar and finished their meal 30 minutes before the other half got their À la cart meal
Tea time at the Palace in the beautiful Garden Court was wonderfully whimsical!
for $68 a person, the food was not worth more then $5
I have chosen the tea service to celebrate a special occasion many times and have always been thrilled with the experience. This time however, I was a little disappointed in the service. This was the first time I ever brought my mother in law and wanted to treat her to something special because she has been going through severe health problems. While the food was good the service was very rushed. Plates and drinks were whisked our table with no pacing whatsoever. Our waiter did not check on us and I had to ask a bus person to ask for more champagne. I had called ahead to indicate I needed a gluten free menu and the waiter brought the GF tea sandwiches but not the scones etc. when I asked for that as well he hurriedly brought me an alternative scone plate but that’s it. I had to ask about the other desserts to know what I needed to avoid and he didn’t really have an answer for me. I paid full price but really was only able to eat half of the selections even though I called ahead. This has never been a problem before and I think it was because everyone was rushing our meal. There was no reason to rush so much, it was not packed. Our waiter was nice, just not as attentive as all my previous experiences. I had also indicated this was a special occasion and no one , except the host, mentioned anything about it. Also something that has never happened before. I was disappointed because I wanted to show mom a really lovely time and make this a recurring visit. I will be back but I hope I’m not rushed and not checked on again.
The service, ambience and food was fantastic. What a beautiful setting. Server Robert was exceptional, with fantastic manners. Will come back for Tea Service next time.
Everything was great! Thanks!
The Garden Court is a special place for a special occasion. And you go for the room. Not the food. They tried really hard, had many attending servers, but it fell short on food and service. The setting is unparalleled for a true old San Francisco experience. Thats why I would go back for Tea. And if I went again for lunch, I would alter my expectations.
We had a party of five, ordered two salads, that were very good. They were out of the Crab salad. Pea soup was good, bread was warm. Two of us ordered the Artichoke with cauliflower and a bbq type sauce with other vegetables. It came without the artichoke, veggies were al dente, undercooked, warm not hot and it really seemed like the bbq sauce was off the shelf. Big miss. And I never got an answer on the missing artichoke that was in the title of the dish!
I sent mine back and got the Monte Christo. Not as bad as the missing artichoke, but could have been so much better. The egg bread was moist, with slices of ham, however no other flavors. Mustard, chutney, cheese. A pickle! Could have balanced the weight of the ham sandwich. In all fairness the waiter tried talking me out of the Monte Christo, and suggested the burger. But I didn't want something so heavy, so maybe I would have been better off.
On table snooping other diners, the Crab salad looked excellent. The fried Calamari looked great, and the burger look good. So there you have it. Stick with the basics and enjoy the room.
