The Garden Court - Luxury Collection
This is a special place for a birthday brunch!
wait staff was superb, food was so yummy. ambiance was so pretty.
Great experience for a mid day outing. Looking forward to doing it again!
The Garden Court is a spectacular venue.
We entertained visitors from Europe. They were duly impressed. It was easy to have a very lovely
conversation. On This Tuesday the room was almost empty. The wait staff was unobtrusive which
The lunch menu is very limited and very expensive. The $39 signature Crab Salad should have had
at least a "dressed" green salad or at least an offering of a vinaigrette besides the Green Goddess.
The $22 Ahi Tuna Tartar appetizer was very good, however, I missed some toast or special crackers.
The paper thin potato chips did not really enhance the plate.
Why the sip of Espresso needs to cost $7.00 is beyond me.
This is one of the most beautiful rooms in San Francisco. A must!
What an amazing space to be in. The service was a bit slow, but when you’re sitting in such a beautiful room, who cares?!? Just enjoy looking at the ceiling and relax. If you’re in a hurry, might not be a place you’ll enjoy.
Valentine’s Day - Walter was our server and was kind, attentive, and hardworking.
We wanted to add a fourth person but couldn’t get they to them by phone last minute.
You can’t fault the beautiful space, it’s perfect for that very special occasion. But with that degree of beauty and elegance and price I do expect a very high level of service. It was Valentine’s Day and my mother’s birthday so it fit the occasion. I had the crab salad which is their specialty. The ingredients were fresh and it had a generous portion of crab but it was bland and nothing special, I wouldn’t recommend it. My mother faired better with the chicken tetrazzini, it was delicious. It might be because the lunch service just started but we had to wait a long time for service, for the bread plate and water and finally for or meal. So really it’s just that what should have been a resounding yes was really just a meh.
Dined here for a weekend breakfast. The food was good, but I wouldn't call it outstanding. A few items require a special call out, like the chocolate croissant. When you dine here, you're really paying for the ambiance and the stunning architecture. If it weren't for the amazing glass dome ceiling and the experience of being at the historic Palace Hotel, I would say the food is about $10-15 more expensive than it should be.
It should also go without saying, but it's located within the hotel, so your fellow diners run the gamut of everyone from fancier business attire to families with children on vacation. The range of diners mixed with the high dome ceiling means it can get a bit noisy, but not much beyond a white noise. You can still easily hear the person across the table from you.
Great service but food was only okay. The sandwiches tasted old, like they’d been made much earlier in the day and just left sitting out until it was time for afternoon tea. Glad we tried it but wouldn’t go back.
Came here for a birthday celebration and had a great time here with my friends. The overall ambiance was fantastic and the food was good. I was disappointed that the tea was not refillable and service was slow. For $70, you'd like you'd get more than 1 pot but they kept refilling the hot water and I was drinking very watered down tea by the end of it. That was my biggest disappointment that they could easily improve upon.
I would come back again but you'd need to set expectations that you don't get the same level of tea experience as doing a true London high-tea.
I had a great time! The service and the atmosphere were wonderful. I enjoyed the time to read at my table. I just had one issue, though - it's 2020, and there is still only one vegetarian option for high tea?
Beautiful place to lunch dine have a drink, really enjoyed the food and service and not to mention the beautiful interior, amazing
awesome place and time
Beautiful, peaceful setting for a relaxing lunch. Service was great and the hummus appetizer plate for two was wonderfully presented. Grilled salmon also highly recommended.
After 90 minutes - the waiter constantly asked us if we were done. We were not - we were still eating - it was very annoying.
Embarrassing for a luxury iconic SF property. Not checked in for reservation. Not seated for 8:30 reservation until 8:40. Not greeted by server for food order until 20 minutes later and told the kitchen was running 20 minutes behind. Was a one hour business meeting. I expect this type of guest interaction at Denny’s. No let me correct that: Denny’s actually wants me to have bkft. The Garden Court wanted me and my guest to have to $40/person buffet. One good note: Elena the server was kind enough to circle the tip % at the bottom of the check to reinforce that an overall, from hostess to check, guest service experience deserves no less that 18-20% gratuity.
We were disappointed that the (very grand) Buffet was discontinued, but my crab pastry was delicious and we all found a proper alternative.
In all my travels, the Palace Hotel has to be one of the nicest hotels I’ve stayed in. The overall hotel is incredibly beautiful, the staff are all very friendly and accommodating and the rooms are very pleasant.
The tea, food, and service was ok. The ambiance is fantastic. Price was very expensive. For such a high price I would expect tea, food, and service to be on point.
Although our service was very friendly and I appreciated that. Little things like the sugar bowl didn’t have thongs you had to dig out with ur spoon. These things matter when ur charging $70 pp.
Celebrating my husbands birthday. Loved everything about the hotel, staff, food, rooms, staff was great which really to me is everything. Will definitely be staying there & already recommending to my friends.
There is no doubt about the atmosphere of Garden Court is extremely nice, beautiful restaurant. However the food is not good at all. The sandwich do not taste that good and the desert are too sweet.
It is not worth for $90 per person.
Disappointed service and quality of the food.
Cheap canned weekdays brunch. It is not worth the money and your effort.
All about the atmosphere! Harpist and holiday decorations made the room even more stunning than normal! Disappointed, however, in the dirty floor (needed a thorough vacuuming to pickup the food from breakfast service...) and my husband’s tea cup had a chip in it.
Had a large party for the breakfast/brunch seating. Good selection of fruits, pastries and hot items, lovely dining area and excellent service. Would definitely come back for a special occasion.
Went for the spectacular dining room, the Garden Court with its gold finishes, marble and stain glass and high ceilings, just as breath taking as always. Found the price fixe at $70 for a small gem salad and nice fish pricey, although it was delicious. Too long a wait time for service with my 6 year old. The waiter extremely
accommodating and offered and took a pic in front of Christmas Tree.
Tried to have Christmas day brunch at The Garden Court, have done this many times in years before
Despite having made a 3 o’clock reservation, and getting there a couple of minutes early, they told us they would be a 45 minute delay for us to sit i.e. at least 345.
They had not yet seated people who had 230 reservations and there were lots of unhappy folks waiting in the lobby, remember this is Christmas Day
The palace makes a big deal about these reservations, you have to sign a contract, and give a credit card in advance, pay a huge penalty if you’re a no-show, and the base price is $155 each
They offered us nothing while we were waiting not wine not Champagne not a place to sit just stand and wait
We checked out the buffet area while we were waiting and while it was decent it was nothing like in the years past, no decorations, and the food looks a little bit tired in some cases as in it hadn’t been replenished recently
We walked back to the front desk and said could we please just cancel at no charge, they said yes, seemed happy to have one less person pressuring them to sit.
Huge disappointment on Christmas day, the Palace obviously does not now know how to plan schedule or stage of festive event like this, which is a disappointment because in the past it was fantastic. Fortunately we had done some extra shopping went home and cooked a wonderful dinner for Christmas
They left out the beets in our salads and that was one of the highlighted ingredients in the description of the salad on the menu. We felt foolish to ask.
The table wear service was set with 2 salad forks and no dinner fork. The wait persons never noticed. I had to ask them to bring dinner forks before our main courses arrived.
Beautiful garden court but the wait staff needs training.
Food is okay but not worth the price. Service slow. Restaurant not well-cleaned and we were the first luncheon seating: hair on table, piece of pasta on the table pedestal, stacks of chairs in the middle of the restaurant floor.
Food is ok. Buffet could have more selections. Service is ok. Could be better for a ‘luxury collection’. Ambiance is top-notch with old-world charm.
Not the same. Tables crowded together. Too busy. Too noisy. Too touristy. Staff was nice but so many tables.
Brunch is decent, but the food is just okay. Service as well.
For many years we have been coming for Holiday tea under the gorgeous stained glass ceiling. We enjoyed the beautifully crafted sandwiches, scones and desserts.
This year it was noticeably worse. The scones were soft like rolls and the desserts were of poor quality. It seems as though they use Crisco in their baking and certainly in the frosting.
It’s apparent that others agree that the quality has suffered. This year it was easy to get a reservation just a few days in advance whereas in the past it was impossible to do so. And the court had plenty of empty tables that didn’t get occupied.
Such a shame that our tradition for Holiday tea at the Palace will now end.
Wonderful ambiance and setting. Very good service and food.
Service was bad and food was mediocre. Will not return
Exquisite room, gorgeous Christmas decorations, flawless service, delicious food, very expensive. The fixed price only lunch menu was not mentioned on the website when I made the reservation or in person when I arrived. That knowledge would not have changed my reservation decision, but it did come as a surprise after I sat down at the table.
There is no more beautiful or historic room in San Francisco than the Garden Court. The atmosphere is unsurpassable. The food is also much better than in previous years. But prices are exceedingly high. Still, around the holidays, it’s worth the splurge.
The fixed menu for December is delicious but pricey. But it's the holidays in one of the most beautiful dinning rooms in the City. We had champagne to further celebrate the occasion. Crab salad, short ribs, and sea bass were great! The chocolate yule log is ready for Instagram.
