Garde Manger

One of my go-to spots in Montreal. Wether it is your 1st time or your 20th time, you leave Garde Manger feeling like you made new friends from the staff.

not what i expected

Great food and friendly, attentive service. Noise level somewhat ruined the ambience, although this was likely at least in part influenced by where we were sitting (corner table).

Garde Manger has become a Montreal icon. The food and service are amazing. The decor and ambiance are alive but never too loud to enjoy the experience and appreciate the wonderful presentation and flavour of this rich and creative food.

Wow was I disappointed. I was looking forward to really good seafood since all of the hype was surrounding seafoodies. I have to give this place two thumbs down on the whole experience. When I made my reservation it asked if I wanted to sit at the bar or at a table. I said table. I got there and they sat me at the bar. Not a big deal. It wasn’t super crowded so it wasn’t like they needed the table space. I just think if they go to the trouble of asking your preferences, they should honor them. I read the other reviews who said they went solo and felt they were not treated as well. I went with an open mind but now I see their point.

After I ordered, these two drunk, let’s just say, business men, sat next to me at the bar. The one was whining about his job and how this Tyler guy was getting ahead of him. He was all over the place and bumping into me. Enough. I asked for my check and left. I would have loved another glass of wine but no one ever came back to ask me and when they finally did, well, it was too late. These guys were far too annoying.

Overall the food was good. The staff was knowledgeable, albeit a bit pretentious. It wasn’t quite the experience I had hoped for when I walked through the door. Oh well. Lesson learned.

Great tasting menu

Three friends and I visited for the first time and did the chef's menu and can honestly say this was one the best meals I've ever had. From the seafood platter at the start to the dessert at the end each course was amazing and would highly recommend this restaurant. If you're visiting Montreal Garde Manger is must!

This was our second time here and it will not be our last! Best restaurant in Montreal hands down. This is the type of place where you can get fine dining food in a casual and fun atmosphere. The food is seasonal, well prepared, and delicious. Great value for the price; my advice is to take your time, involve the wait staff (which are always eager and enthusiastic to help) and enjoy!

We also love the music; everything from 90’s /2000’s alternative to Motown so it makes it fun to relax and reminisce Thank you for making my wife’s 40th birthday a blast!

Valentines Day. We sat at the back bar and had a fantastic experience with the two lads serving us (thanks guys). From oysters, tuna and razor clams to our delicious duck and monkfish, this place knows how to keep you coming back. It’s our 3rd trip from Toronto to the restaurant and we will be back time and time again. One of my absolute favourite spots! Only thing that could have been better....more tequila! 😜

We were privileged to have a fabulous dinner at Garde Manger on our most recent trip to Montreal. We found the restaurant to be inviting in decor with our host and servers incredibly welcoming. The ambiance speaks of people enjoying a pleasant evening (a bit loud on our visit only because we were adjacent to a table of 14). Though seafood is a specialty, we are not so inclined and deferred instead to the meat-based Chef's Choice Tasting Menu of Appetizers and Entrees. We were delighted to have Kyle, our very knowledgeable and helpful server, make excellent selections for us in all categories, including a marvelous wine that paired perfectly with our meal. Our Appetizers included the foie gras mousse, sauteed pork belly, and burrata....all of which were divine!! Our Entrees included duck breast, roasted root vegetables, and braised pork loin....all were insanely delicious!! Lastly, we threw caution to the wind and allowed our server to select ice cream filled profiteroles and a totally decadent chocolate cake with cream for a sensational and memorable finish! Our experience is best summed up in my husband's words, "this compares favorably to the best meal I've ever been served!" Special thanks to Kyle and to the entire staff of Garde Manger!

The food was outstanding. We opted to share four appetizers and two entrees between 3 people. The standouts included the brussel sprouts and the foie gras. The drinks that were recommended by the server didn’t meet expectations and the beer we got wasn’t what we asked for. Didn’t matter much but for the price everything should be perfect and this was the only thing that fell short of perfection.

They didn’t offer coffee or tea. We had to ask . Other than that the staff were very attentive and friendly. They know their dishes. It was wonderful and delicious. A very unique experience

Great interesting food and excellent service. A gem!

I can now take this item off my bucket list. From the time we arrived to the time we left everything was exceptional. I highly recommend the tasting menu. A great array of diverse foods. One warning - come hungry. The portions are very generous. Food was amazing. Such a variety of different flavours that explode in your mouth.

Excellent food with superior service. A little expensive but worth it for a special experience. We were lucky to have Chuck in the house, and he stopped by to say hello, a really nice guy!
