Great food and great service!
We arrived on a Tuesday evening to find the coq au vin "off" and another dish "delayed." We had excellent mussels and duck as our main courses. The appetizer pate was excellent, but tasted a bit sweet(!) The onion soup is a hearty standby. All in all, an enjoyable meal.
Lovely French bistro -- good food & ambiance! We went to a pretheatre show at The Marsh and it was perfect & only a block away. Highly recommended!
I hadn't been to Garcon in several years, and had recalled that, while the food was fine, the experience left something to be desired, and that was the case this time. After I arrived, another party was seated at a nearby table, and they were brought water and bread before the waiter even came to check on me. That said, the waitstaff was o.k. for the rest of the meal, and even good-humored at times. Still, there are other bistros in town that I like a good deal more, but I wouldn't refuse to go back here if invited.
Our table’s host felt that the service was efficient to the point of being rude. Also the serving and table set up was brusque / noisy.
I used to love this place, but now they no longer serve cocktails which is really disappointing. The service was slow, fast, slow, fast. At the end it felt like they were trying to get us out and it wasn't even 10pm on a Saturday. They were out of Escargot!
Superb!! By far, one of the most authentic French restaurants in the city. Service is so friendly, they are like family.
Good food, good wine, good service. Went on a Saturday night with a reservation, wonderful service from a helpful staff. Food was good, wine flight was fun, dessert was good. Great place.
Good food, great experience, terrific service. European, but not so aggressively that you’re always looking for the waiter.
I've been coming here for over 8 years. Mainly cuz the food was good and a good value and the service was great. My most recent experience was not good. We had to catch our waiter as he would run by. We waited to be seated for over 5 min's even though we had a reservation and we were greeted by 3 different people after we sat, none of which actually took an order for a drink. This will be my last visit.
We love this restaurant! When we go to San Francisco we usually stop by for a snack and a drink or a full meal. The service is great and the food is always interesting and tasty! Its a really fun place to dine!
Garcon is a neighborhood gem. Service is always amazing and food is delicious
I was not too happy with the waiter. I had to ask him to take our order. Two out of three dish I had was really good. I had the brussel sprouts and calamari w/ beans was really good. The Duck Confit was a disappointed too over cook, hard and dry.
I had heard great things about Garcon, and our experience was good. Our reservation was 6pm Friday and the restaurant was empty when we arrived. Service felt a bit rushed but by the end of the evening the energy picked up and pace of service slowed to enjoyable. The food was good, but pricey. For first timers, we recommend the wine flight and the daily special.
Must commend the Garcon staff on exceptionally gracious service while celebrating a birthday. Having ordered the profiteroles for dessert, normally two to a serving, the order was increased so our party of three could participate. The dessert arrived with a birthday candle for the celebrant and a rousing chorus of of 'Joyeux Anniversaire" accompanied the presentation. Then a complimentary glass of dessert wine was served to enhance the festivities. BTW, the wine flights at $17.00 are both interesting vintages and very generous pours.
Awful Valentine’s day experience. Arrived early for reservation and had to wait over an hour, only to be seated and find out that several items on the fixed menu (the only available menu for $78/pp) were sold out. We left and found a great place on Valencia. Will NEVER return back.
$90/pre-fix menu expensive but Valentines Day. Wine List expensive as well. Only one bottle under $50 to choose from. Three courses; First two great. However Dessert was bland & didn’t appear fresh. Disappointing.
The food and service were both very good, and the ambiance festive. We all had a wonderful time!
The coq au vin is always so excellent that I never order anything else. Two of my dinner companions had fettuccine that looked fabulous. It’s too bad that they sold their liquor license but they have a great wine selection.
Great neighborhood French place that does some of the best mussels in the city.
As always, we enjoyed our meal. The duck was great, the sweetbreads were yummy and the chocolate mousse was better than I remembered.
Entrees were disappointing but the salads were excellent.
Excellent service and food quality is exceptional. Highly recommended.
We try a different restaurant during restaurant week every year. This year it was Garcon, we had a great experience and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back soon.
I went to garçon with two friends to try their San Francisco restaurant week menu. I had an amazing time with well suitable portions and great tasting food. The staff is very friendly and approachable and even offered to swap out the pate for my friend because he didn’t reloads it was made with liver and he was not a fan of innards.
Surprisingly, my favourite dish was the seasonal vegetable pasta. The fresh fungus and green sauce was just impeccable. 10/10 would recommend! On the side note, the sauces in our dish, to me personally, was a little salty (hence four stars for food for me).
One of my favorite bistros - great people, great French basics!
Even though I had a reservation confirmation from Open Table , we were not on their reservation list. Luckily they could fit us in.
Very authentic French bistro.
Food was great just heavy if you’ve been eating clean for a year.
The ambiance is great and we love going there!
We celebrated the New Year there with their New Years Eve menu of choices. ($78.00 plus wines)
We began with a flight of champagnes and brought our own bottle of Raymond Generations for the $20.00 corkage fee. I asked for a "taste"of the artichoke soup (and got it - excellent) and then had crab salad, and all of us had the flat mignon and bouche cake for desert. They sat us in the back room, which oddly for conversation turned out to be terrific as this restaurant gets very noisy in the front. A bit if a rush was happening, and we asked our server to slow down bringing things out. He did! I had been there before for lunch and liked it and now it is a neighborhood gem adding to the proliferation of French inspired restaurants.
It’s our go to place. Window seat. Great food and service. Love you all. Happy new year. Dan and Jeff
Incredible meal with incredible service. Will definitely go back!
A nice place with good simple French/California food. Casual place to catch up with friends.
The food was delicious and staff was extremely friendly. We ordered the escargots as appetizer, hanger steak frites for dinner and then of course we couldn’t miss dessert so we ordered the chocolate lava cake, YUMM! Everything was amazing, it makes me happy when we decide to experiment a new restaurant and find a hidden gem. Their food is 100% worth it, very recommended.
Busy bistro w/good French style bistro fare
We visit Garcon's two to three times per year and always enjoy it. For holidays (like Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve) they offer a limited menu with a fixed price. The Thanksgiving fare was as good as always for the special meals. I had a filet and my partner had a turkey dinner. Both were excellent. The Wait-staff is always friendly and recognized us as soon as we walked in (which is a nice touch that makes you feel as if they care and remember their customers. The non-holiday menu is basically posted on Open-table. We have sampled several different mail entree items in the past and have never been disappointed. Definitely, we will go back to Garcon's again.
Excellent in every way. Wonderful food, gracious hosts.
great food, great service, perfect before a show at The Marsh
Always a treat to have dinner here when we are in the City. Nice place to meet friends for a get together.
Great food and ambiance for a casual dinner out
Service is respectable. However, the food is only average.
