Welcome to Garcon! Garcon encapsulates an old-world French bistro with a casual and friendly atmosphere like one would find in France. Chef Arthur Wall delivers a stylish interpretation of French classics like coq au vin, mussels, duck confit and French onion soup. A New Orleans native, classically trained at the Winsdor Court Hotel, Chef Wall has always loved French cooking but with the resources and setting of the west coast. He sources the freshest ingredients, cooking in the seasons and changing the menu daily. Garcon offers a diverse selection of local and old world wines, local oysters and cheeses as well as daily prix fixe and holiday tasting menus. Access to private lounge offset from main dining allows people to engage in intimate conversation and parties as well.
Garcon also offers a 3 course Chef's menu all week.

Garcon Ratings and Reviews
For the last ten years Garcon has been a favorite. Last night's dinner with friends was terminally disappointing. The dining room was stifling warm. Be advised Garcon no longer offers cocktails having sold their liquor license! The previous standard menu items (and still shown on the website) such as duck confit and pork tenderloin are no longer offered. The upholstery of the seating is new.
This place is a treasure....authentic delicious French bistro food....like casual dining in Paris! The service is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is delightful! We were a party of six and enjoyed all of our choices including very delicious onion soup, chicken liver pate, salads, steak frite and seared salmon with the crispy skin on. Desserts are also fantastic!
Love this restaurant!
Have been here many times, and it never disappoints. This last time the service started out a bit slow, but came through in the end. Great food, cocktails, and wine -- what's not to love. Great ambiance, feels like you're in Europe.
Food was unimpressive, average. Don't get the pasta, very under-flavored. I think it would be best to order drinks and a cheese plate. Service was spotty -- hostess was rude. Overall it was okay but there are far better eating experiences in San Francisco
An absolutely wonderful treat! I've been wanting to come here for some time and it definitely was worth the wait: the service, food, and ambiance were superb. We will be back for sure and look forward to our next visit here. Highly recommend!
I live close to Garcon but always make a reservation because they have gotten popular and I can't say I'm surprised given how yummy it is. The soup of the day is always innovative and amazing, the frissee lardon salad is the best I've had outside of France, their French onion soup and the steak frites keeps my family always wanting to come too, and the waitstaff is just so nice. Oh and reasonably priced cocktails and wine (for SF at least). I have never had a bad dish here!
My husband and I were in town for our Anniversary and thought we would try this restaurant. It it very small, like many of the restaurants in this area but... the best food and service! I had the duck confit and my husband had the hanger steak - both were beyond awesome. The waiters and hostess were fabulous! Truffle fries to start were out of this world and the cheese plate at the end was totally fantastic. We will absolutely come again and would recommend this authentic restaurant to anyone. Loved it!!!
We had a great time here last week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The asparagus soup du jour was lovely and summery, the seared foie gras was *epic* on all accounts. They have a wildly delicious Cabernet Franc that always hits the spot as well. Dessert and great espresso rounded off the multi-hour dining outing. Success!
The staff at this neighborhood gem is always friendly and accommodating. It's standard bistro fare done exquisitely. The room is comfortable and inviting. My salmon was cooked just as ordered, and my friend enjoyed his steak frites thoroughly. It's always a great evening.
Four of us wanted an early dinner before the 8 pm show at The Marsh. Bone marrow appetizer excellent and I was impressed with the tender hanger steak cooked medium rare to perfection. Companion said the salmon was also excellent and the pasta was yummy. We were all happy. Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. We will be back!
The food at Garcon was amazing! Our party initially had a reservation for 6 but had to change to 7 at the last minute and luckily, they were able to accommodate us.
Jerome is the man! Super friendly staff as well and they made some great wine recommendations. We ordered 5 bottles of wine between the 7 of us and the food pairings were superb as well. It was my first time trying bone marrow and foie gras and it did not disappoint.
Recommend the mussels as well.
Garcon remains one of our family's go to place for French cuisine, until just recently.
A little disappointed with my dish, duck confit. Cold, not crispy, haricort vert limp sitting on I don't know what kind of mash. And the steak ftites my guest had, a favorite of my children, I could tell had been sitting under a warming lamp because the wine reduction looked like greasy jelly. Our other guest ordered Rib Eye medium rare.
What he got was nearly medium well. He didn't say anything out of politeness since it was I who highly recommended Garcon. For the prices charged, I expected the same quality of food my family and I have enjoyed in the last 4 years celebrating Anniversaries, birthdays, milestones at Garcon. We may need to rethink our choice next we want to eat French.
The service was not up to par. The first wait person came right over and brought menus and water. Then she waited on all the tables around us after 10 plus minutes another waiter showed up and stated he had just gotten to work. He was very fast to clear our plates and we asked to have leftovers boxed. The leftovers were mixed up with our friends. We had to ask for spoons to put the food with the right people! Besides they took one dish while we were still eating it! They never poured the wine and we ordered bread but it was never brought out to us plus they charge for bread.
Probably won't go back too many other places in SF!
Had not been to Garcon in some time-it was loud, crowded, and very hot inside. The one vegetarian in our group ordered the pasta and it had bacon in it that was not listed on the menu as an ingredient. Very disappointed. It was a lovely spot when it first opened, and is now indistinguishable from the frenzied and overrated Valencia Street restaurant scene.
