Garcon
BON APPETIT!
$90/pre-fix menu expensive but Valentines Day. Wine List expensive as well. Only one bottle under $50 to choose from. Three courses; First two great. However Dessert was bland & didn’t appear fresh. Disappointing.
The food and service were both very good, and the ambiance festive. We all had a wonderful time!
The coq au vin is always so excellent that I never order anything else. Two of my dinner companions had fettuccine that looked fabulous. It’s too bad that they sold their liquor license but they have a great wine selection.
Great neighborhood French place that does some of the best mussels in the city.
As always, we enjoyed our meal. The duck was great, the sweetbreads were yummy and the chocolate mousse was better than I remembered.
Entrees were disappointing but the salads were excellent.
Excellent service and food quality is exceptional. Highly recommended.
We try a different restaurant during restaurant week every year. This year it was Garcon, we had a great experience and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back soon.
I went to garçon with two friends to try their San Francisco restaurant week menu. I had an amazing time with well suitable portions and great tasting food. The staff is very friendly and approachable and even offered to swap out the pate for my friend because he didn’t reloads it was made with liver and he was not a fan of innards.
Surprisingly, my favourite dish was the seasonal vegetable pasta. The fresh fungus and green sauce was just impeccable. 10/10 would recommend! On the side note, the sauces in our dish, to me personally, was a little salty (hence four stars for food for me).
One of my favorite bistros - great people, great French basics!
Even though I had a reservation confirmation from Open Table , we were not on their reservation list. Luckily they could fit us in.
Very authentic French bistro.
Food was great just heavy if you’ve been eating clean for a year.
The ambiance is great and we love going there!
We celebrated the New Year there with their New Years Eve menu of choices. ($78.00 plus wines)
We began with a flight of champagnes and brought our own bottle of Raymond Generations for the $20.00 corkage fee. I asked for a "taste"of the artichoke soup (and got it - excellent) and then had crab salad, and all of us had the flat mignon and bouche cake for desert. They sat us in the back room, which oddly for conversation turned out to be terrific as this restaurant gets very noisy in the front. A bit if a rush was happening, and we asked our server to slow down bringing things out. He did! I had been there before for lunch and liked it and now it is a neighborhood gem adding to the proliferation of French inspired restaurants.
It’s our go to place. Window seat. Great food and service. Love you all. Happy new year. Dan and Jeff
Incredible meal with incredible service. Will definitely go back!
A nice place with good simple French/California food. Casual place to catch up with friends.
The food was delicious and staff was extremely friendly. We ordered the escargots as appetizer, hanger steak frites for dinner and then of course we couldn’t miss dessert so we ordered the chocolate lava cake, YUMM! Everything was amazing, it makes me happy when we decide to experiment a new restaurant and find a hidden gem. Their food is 100% worth it, very recommended.
Busy bistro w/good French style bistro fare
We visit Garcon's two to three times per year and always enjoy it. For holidays (like Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve) they offer a limited menu with a fixed price. The Thanksgiving fare was as good as always for the special meals. I had a filet and my partner had a turkey dinner. Both were excellent. The Wait-staff is always friendly and recognized us as soon as we walked in (which is a nice touch that makes you feel as if they care and remember their customers. The non-holiday menu is basically posted on Open-table. We have sampled several different mail entree items in the past and have never been disappointed. Definitely, we will go back to Garcon's again.
Excellent in every way. Wonderful food, gracious hosts.
great food, great service, perfect before a show at The Marsh
Always a treat to have dinner here when we are in the City. Nice place to meet friends for a get together.
Great food and ambiance for a casual dinner out
Service is respectable. However, the food is only average.
Great food and service, as always. Our only complaint is for the fries that were not as good as before. A bit mushy, probably because they weren’t fresh.
Not sure what I did to offend the sensibilities of the waiter tonight, but he was brusque, though I suspect it had to do with the fact we did not order a bottle of wine, just a glass for my friend and a delicious bottle of Gascon mineral water. My companion's coq au vin had stringy, over-cooked meat, and no solid chunks. To be fair, the rest of it, especially the deeply flavorful---wine, bacon, onion---liquid, was delicious, as one would expect. My fish came with a flavorful (garlic and pepper notes) smear of puree, and perfectly cooked pieces of broccolini; however, the fish itself (cod) was mushy, a very clear sign of unfreshness. For a restaurant at this price point, the fish just plain sucked. I have had fine food here, but the place is uneven. This time I will stick to my promise to myself never to return.
Really wonderful coc au vin, nice attentive service
Very friendly staff. Nice ambiance. The Oysters and Mussels are a must have as well as the Crème Brulee for dessert.
We have always enjoyed Garcon but the food was very disappointing on this visit. The waiter recommended a New York steak special which was 22 ounces and $66 dollars, big enough to share, he said. We ordered one for three of us given the size and also a salad. The steak was fatty throughout and when we finally managed to separate the fat from the rest we only had a few bites each. In hindsight we should have sent it back but the waiter was very nice so we didn't say anything. We love the atmosphere and the service but given our food experience we can only give Garcon three stars this time around.
Another very delicious meal at one of our favorites. Delicious food. Coq au Vin. No corkage Tuesday an especially good deal. And those oysters...yum!
We visit SF two or three times a year. A friend brought us here first. Now it is one of our must returns when we are in SF. Wonderful cooking. Great happy hour.
Great food with a awesome friendly staff!
Fantastic food and great personal attention from the owner and waitress. They helped us celebrate a birthday in a very special way!!!
Great food and service. Had mid-week dinner with friends at Garcon, and was very impressed with the quality of food and impeccable service. Highly recommended.
Celebrated a birthday so it was a fun and memorable OK Asian! Very good service and authentic French cuisine
Apparently Garçon was sold to non-French folk and the food is no way the same, no longer authentic French cuisine. And only wine and beer now, no more cocktails...
This is a French restaurant in the mission on Valencia. The duck confit is a winner and the wine flights pleased my wife a lot. We used to be regulars an are going to start that again. It would be nice if they served Belgian beer (and not crud like Stella - something like Tripel Karmeliet or Val Dieu.
Slow service
Gordon's is an excellent neighborhood bistro. Good wine list, good selection of charcuterie and cheeses. The menu, however, is somewhat slimmer than the one currently on the website.
Classic French bistro.
