Overall a nice experience. Food was decent. Had a space in a back room which was nice for a larger party as it kept the noise level down a bit. Only negative was the service. Waiter was a nice guy but he kept on forgetting things. Drinks were slow to come out and food order took a long time to take. Would recommend going on a Sunday for brunch as long as you are not in a hurry.
Solid neighborhood place to eat. Music is a little too loud.
Is owning one high chair your passive aggressive way of letting diners know that you don't want people with children to eat here? I had reservations which specifically said I would need a high chair. When I spoke to them on the phone I reiterated that I needed a high chair and I was told it was not a problem. When we got there, we had to wait past our reservation time because they had exactly one high chair and it had been given to another family. We ended up being seated without a high chair. Eventually, halfway through our time there, we were given a chair for the baby. Too little too late! What's the point of making a reservation ahead of time if it will not be honored? The food was good. Nothing special. This is the third Jose Garces restaurant we have been to in the city and poor service seems to be the running theme in all three. Our waitress ignored us. Service was so slow. How long does it take to make coffee? When it was time to pay the bill, we told her, "Don't go, we have our credit card ready" and she just disappeared anyway. This city is flooded with restaurants that serve delicious brunch so you should probably step up your game by offering better service. We won't be back!
I ordered vegetable minestrone (no pasta). Want to know how many beans were in there? 5. There were 5 beans. My friend ordered the salmon entree whose description included a bagel. Want to know what the bagel was? A bagel chip. CHIP.
It took 30 minutes to get coffee, 60 minutes to get an appetizer, and 90 minutes to get an entree.
The overall consensus was, “the food was fine, I guess.”
We've been to Garces Trading Co. once before for dinner. It was alright. However, went for brunch yesterday and was very impressed! Food was great. Drinks were good and for $25 I got sangria, coffee, pastries, a cheese board and a meal. That's a pretty solid price for Philly brunch! Our server, Mary C. was wonderful! Friendly but not overbearing and handled our multiple credit cards/gift cards with a smile. Definitely would recommend for brunch!
Food was terrible
Olive and cauliflower small plates were very good. We both had the trout which was excellent. Have had the pasta with the lamb ragu also excellent. Always have had a good meal here with the opportunity to try different dishes. Think you will enjoy.
The food was EXCEPTIONAL. I loved our server too. She was attentive without being overbearing. It was my first time there and my experience was flawless.
We had a great experience at Garces Trading Co. Food was excellent, drinks were good. Ambiance was loud and energetic. It was a nice date night out.
It was great food. Alcoholic drinks were way over priced.
First visit....really enjoyed everything about our dining experience. Great food & atmosphere! Very attentive service! Will definitely be back!
Brunch was spectacular! We all got the $25 prefix which was a great deal - cocktail, coffee, bread basket, choice of a first and second plate. I had the duck pot and baked eggs; both delicious. The waitstaff and chef were also very accommodating when I requested some minor modifications to my dishes because I’m lactose intolerant.
I heard amazing things about this place but was very disappointed with the food. The flavors were just very muted and disappointing. We ordered multiple plates and were disappointed with most of them. The short rib lasagna was the only dish worth talking about, it was delightful! However, if you are a vegetarian, don't even bother going here; there is sadly, nothing for you.
I'm a very big fan of Garces, but less so regarding the Trading Company. Not a very extensive menu, just small plates yet still big prices. Had a very good experience, enjoyed the food and wine, service was good, it just felt like it took too big a bite out of my wallet for the overall experience.
Love the steak and duck fat fries.
Stopped in the night that Riley hit the City and SEPTA trains not running. Carmen took good care of me; her service was wonderful. Food was very good. In all a lovely way to ride out the storm.
Nice place to visit and hit happy hour at the bar before or after a show! Yummy mussels and fish!
Delicious brunch and excellent service
One issue with an egg sandwich having runny egg after being sent back but manager handled well...Great service...we will be back
We had a great experience. Our table was ready at the time of our reservation. The server waited until we were ready while we caught up with our friends. The food was very good. I probably would order the olives again because while there were a lot of them there wasn’t a great variety. The steak frites were delicious as was the pappardelle with lamb ragu.
Garces has a great menu that will have something for every palate. We got the mozzarella and masala vadai small plates and the steak frites and mussels frites for dinner. Everything was delicious! The small plates are definitely small so stock up if you have a hungry group. Portions are precise and there won't be leftovers.
I had a family dinner here. Food and service was great, however the music was too loud...
We are foodies who enjoy gourmet food. The food here was absolutely delicious! Our waitress was a delight! We will return!
TOO LOUD! The combination of music turned up too high, tables too close together, and people conversing in raised voices made for an unpleasant experience. The brunch menu was limited in food selection, and the list of wines by the glass even more so. We have dined at more than a score of Open Table restaurants in Philadelphia and rate this restaurant lowest of them all.
Great brunch! 25 dollar brunch menu is so worth it.
Sat at the bar for brunch. Enjoyed the bartender, food was excellent, pastries over the top!
Lots of food. Nice ambiance.
Food is excellent service fantastic but music is way to loud to hold conversations it’s at the forefront not background music
Best scallops I have ever had!
This was my second time here and it was even better than I remembered. From the bread, to the cheese plate, meatballs, and lamb ragu- the food was flawless. Service was incredible as well and ambiance is great. It's not too noisy so you can hear your conversation but still a good crowd surrounding you. Great experience! Will definitely be back.
We enjoyed our meal very much, from the pate to the mussels to the ice cream dessert (a sundae for grownups). Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. The reason for a 4-star review instead of 5-stars: it was so noisy until the crowd thinned out that my husband and i had trouble hearing each other. A suggestion would be to turn down the music when the restaurant is super crowded.
We have been last year for lunch and it was wonderful. This time, there only seemed to be one waitress and one server. At one point, I actually had to go to the hostess to ask her to get our server. My lamb ragu pappardelle was just warm, 3 scallops for $8 each? Really? It will be quite a while before we go back. So disappointing. Now I see why only 3 tables were taken at 7:30.
Pre-show dinner. Looked at photos of food before going. Ordered 4 appetizers and the steak frites which was phenomenal! I wanted to lick the plate when it was done. Definitely will be going back.
We are never disappointed when we dine at a Garces restaurant! Always an enjoyable and truly delectable experience!
Good food. Good service. Second visit. Found there were many interesting possible menu selections. Will be back.
Food was very good from the appetizers to dessert. We enjoyed the seasonal sangria as well. Service was a bit too attentive. Would have been happy with half as many visits to the table.
Service was very good. Duck Lyonnaise salad was delicious. Duck papardelle ragu and mussels frites were so oversalted that they were inedible. They did remake the two entrees to go and didn't charge for one, so 5 stars for service recovery effort. Will likely wait a while before we try again.
Fabulous Food, great service, & overall fun evening. If you do not enjoy louder environments, then this is not the place for you. We have been here 3 times & have never been disappointed. Have always enjoyed our meals, beverages & the atmosphere. Cannot wait to return.
The food was delicious but service messed up the evening. Entries were served prior to appetizers and orders sent out one at a time as apparently they were ready. The space was extremely loud so that you couldn’t talk to your neighbor. I had heard such great things I was sorely disappointed.
Tables are small, space very crowded. Food is fine, but not noteworthy. Bread is disappointing. Service was good, but disjointed - They use runners to deliver the order, so you lack the interaction with the waiter at that time.
Garces Trading Company continues to impress. We go there pre-theatre and, with their attentive service, we're always finished in time without rushing including dessert and coffee. The food is among the best in Philly -- simply delicious with well-matched fine tastes. We've had dinner there several times and have never been disappointed. Excellent wines too!
