Garces Trading Company Ratings and Reviews
TOO LOUD! The combination of music turned up too high, tables too close together, and people conversing in raised voices made for an unpleasant experience. The brunch menu was limited in food selection, and the list of wines by the glass even more so. We have dined at more than a score of Open Table restaurants in Philadelphia and rate this restaurant lowest of them all.
We enjoyed our meal very much, from the pate to the mussels to the ice cream dessert (a sundae for grownups). Everything was delicious and the service was excellent. The reason for a 4-star review instead of 5-stars: it was so noisy until the crowd thinned out that my husband and i had trouble hearing each other. A suggestion would be to turn down the music when the restaurant is super crowded.
We have been last year for lunch and it was wonderful. This time, there only seemed to be one waitress and one server. At one point, I actually had to go to the hostess to ask her to get our server. My lamb ragu pappardelle was just warm, 3 scallops for $8 each? Really? It will be quite a while before we go back. So disappointing. Now I see why only 3 tables were taken at 7:30.
Service was very good. Duck Lyonnaise salad was delicious. Duck papardelle ragu and mussels frites were so oversalted that they were inedible. They did remake the two entrees to go and didn't charge for one, so 5 stars for service recovery effort. Will likely wait a while before we try again.
Fabulous Food, great service, & overall fun evening. If you do not enjoy louder environments, then this is not the place for you. We have been here 3 times & have never been disappointed. Have always enjoyed our meals, beverages & the atmosphere. Cannot wait to return.
The food was delicious but service messed up the evening. Entries were served prior to appetizers and orders sent out one at a time as apparently they were ready. The space was extremely loud so that you couldn’t talk to your neighbor. I had heard such great things I was sorely disappointed.
Garces Trading Company continues to impress. We go there pre-theatre and, with their attentive service, we're always finished in time without rushing including dessert and coffee. The food is among the best in Philly -- simply delicious with well-matched fine tastes. We've had dinner there several times and have never been disappointed. Excellent wines too!
Found the menu lacking in choices. I had a steak that I asked for med rare and at best it was medium. It was also very small compared to the huge pile of duck fat fries, which were delicious. Could not send back as we were on our way to the theater. Serving staff was very nice and responsive.
One of the best kept brunch secrets. $25 brunch menu includes first and second course, a cocktail and coffee as well as a basket of pastries. I will never understand why it's so easy to get a brunch reservation here. As always the food was delicious! Favorite mozzarella in the city!
I went here with a date during restaurant week. The service was excellent the, setting is beautiful but the food is terrible and unfortunately that is why one goes to a restaurant. No amount of attentiveness from the wait staff can ever make up for bad food. The amount of salt applied to every dish I had could give a person hypertension. I doubt I would ever go back here except for cocktails, those were lovely. Overall not a good experience, avoid.
Came here for restaurant week and I have to say that we were a bit disappointed; when the dessert was your favorite part of the evening (unless you're a sweets junkie which I absolutely am not) you know that your dinner was a little lackluster. We came here after hearing from friends that they had a mediocre experience but would try it again so we found ourselves here for the first time and we also should have known that we could have made pizza at home and been just as happy when a Garces restaurant still has a lot of reservations and open tables DURING RESTAURANT WEEK. Our meals were fine (a little cold, but fine), our server was fine, and the ambiance was nice. When we have so many options to go to in center city I don't know if we'll be back and I certainly won't give my friends a tip to try here unfortunately.
I went with 3 friends for Center City District Restaurant Week. We we're able to be seated early, which was nice. Margaritas we're delicious! They were even kind enough to make us a pitcher. We tried one of each available option (4 options per course, 4 in our party). The first and second courses were delicious, with the masala fritters being the biggest hit. The third course (entree) was a huge disappointment, except for the delicious roasted chicken meal. The pasta dishes were small and very bland. I am not exaggerating when I say that I could have made that more delicious using jar sauce from the supermarket. Both the carbonara and the seafood trenette we're completely forgettable. Dessert saved the day,as both the chocolate mousse and lemon tart we're amazing. Service was great on all points. I would definitely give this place another chance, ordering from their regular menu.
I went with friends for Restaraunt Week. We were the youngest people in the restaraunt at 21, 22 and 22. The initial appetizer was the best thing there and the Tuscan fusilli pasta was actually pretty disappointing. Overall I would just come back for the Masala Vadai during Happy Hour. Service was good though, we had a competent and attentive waitress that was patient with us.
We didn't realize it was Restaurant Week when we made the reservation. Often, a restaurant isn't at it's best with the RW crowds, but Garces Trading Post was great! We probably wouldn't have ordered 4 courses, but the RW menu was the only thing being offered. Each course was excellent, the service was great despite the crowds, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. We'll be back to explore the regular menu as we had planned!
We chose from the prix fixe restaurant menu and enjoyed most of our selections. Lentil fritters were great, the cheese board was tasty, cauliflower was OK, salad was lovely, meatballs were tasty, soup was pretty good, trout was delicious, and pasta and chicken were good. Desserts were tasty, too. The service was excellent and congenial. We all five enjoyed the meal.
Four friends going for Restaurant week in Philadelphia. It was great! There were four courses to choose from. The food was fresh, bursting with flavor and just the right portion size. I particularly liked the Roasted chicken-moist throughout and seasoned with herbs on top of delicious buttery mashed potatoes. Our waiter was great too and very knowledgeable of the restaurant and food.
I'd definitely recommend coming here for any fun date or hang out with friends. I've already recommended it to two people. It's a treat.
