Great space, imaginative menu, delicious food. Enjoyed purchasing some of the Garces gourmet products, thank you!
Had a delicious supper meal with my partner after a long day of walking Center City. Neither of us had been to the restaurant, though we've long heard of it. We both had simple meals (chicken and scallops), salad, and Italian beer. The server was spot on - polite, attentive, and knew his stuff with the menu. We are now fans and will certainly come back!
Brought some out of town family and everyone loved their meal. A very gracious staff!
Nice ambiance and beautiful bar. Enjoyed the champagne offered for our anniversary. Chose the chef's tasting menu which was delicious. Our favorites included the homemade mozzarella and mussels. Our least favorite was the chicken and puréed potatoes. The chicken lacked flavor. A crisp skin could have enhanced it. The potatoes were very salty. This was surprising since all the other dishes were well seasoned. Our waiter was very attentive except never offered to refill our water . Thought the tasting menu was a great value. We were so full that our waiter suggested we take home our desserts.... and we did! Enjoyed the dessert the next day.
We used to love coming here every time we came to visit Philly. This was the most disappointing experience yet. The food was highly mediocre, far from the restaurants former glory. My wife's steak came out cold and had to be sent back. Based on both our meals I would say it seemed like the kitchen wasn't on it's game. The restaurant was practically empty, which didnt help the atmosphere. The server tried really hard to make the experience better, but there is only so much you can do.
Very good, tasty food, but the tables are a little too close together so the waiters had to squeeze in between the chairs to serve the clients. Apart from that, a very good experience in a very nice neighborhood of Philly.
Group of four of us and we very much enjoyed the menu offerings and the specials for the day. Very good choices prepared 'deliciously'. very attentive service on the evening that we were there. One poor spot is the desserts- very disappointing in their
offerings...This was our third visit.
Appetizers (3) and desert (2) were miniscle. Beef lasagna was almost not edible - meat tough & very fatty, bottom pasta layer was stuck to the bottom of the dish, and the portion was very small; one of our party ate very little of it, and two others managed to eat about half (of a not reasonable size portion.
Great meal and service
Steak and Frites are my favorite. Mussels were also very tasty.
Very tasty dinner.
Went to Garces with some friends for a pre-event dinner. It was a Sunday, and they have a Sunday Supper Prix Fixe option - and we went for that.
The salad was tasty, tho not too exciting. But the main course, the fried chicken, was fantastic. The breading was light but expertly seasoned. Not greasy at all. The dessert was a nice light closer!
The cocktails were good, interesting and plentiful.
Portions were large - and the value was high.
Always love going to Garces! Love the brunch menu and cocktails! Wonderful servicue as well.
I really enjoyed it. My husband liked the food but thought it wasn't enough for him. A family next to us had ordered the Tasting Choice. The family said that it was plenty of food. I would really love to order it next time we plan to come to your restaurant.
Garces Trading Company is a member of the Garces Group. It has a very nice menu. And a matching cocktail and wine list. It appears, from the outside, to be a fine dining establishment.
Unfortunately, it has become a family restaurant. Most of the children (under 10 yrs old or so) dining there were well behaved -- I have no problem with well behaved young people dining, they are quite welcome! One table, eight to ten people, around half toddler to six or so, was not so appropriate for a finer restaurant.. Kids running around, yelling, etc. Even then, at least one father had to take a toddler outside for a spell for a walk.
After we asked twice, the staff managed to get bread and activities to the table. This helped, to a great degree, but the mood of the evening (our anniversary dinner) was pretty much shot.
GTC staff, please, when you see young children, please get them activities IMMEDIATELY. When they walk in the door, before they even get to a table. We should have not have had to ask once, let alone twice. The staff should be actively managing the environment.
Other notes: The cocktails were superb. The wine list was small, but well thought out, and all were available by the glass. The food was well prepared, although a bit salty. The environment was aesthetic, well laid out, and clean. The service and staffing were quite good (except as noted above). The manager was supportive of our concerns, and did what she could.
As for me, I won't be back to GTC unless I'm in the company of children. There are many other fine and event-worthy locations, including many Garces restaurants, that don't have this problem.
Very good food in a very nice restaurant. We were there late on Thursday so it was almost empty. Therefore, I do not know if they have a good atmosphere. However, the service and food were high quality.
Always consistent good food, but limited menu which hasn't changed.
The service was wonderful. The gentleman waiting on our party of nine could not have been more attentive, patient, and informative. He helped all to navigate the menu and even steered us to an excellent bottle of wine. The food was incredible!!!
Felt a little bit rush.
The food was incredible! Our server recommended house made mozzarella and it did not disappoint. The drinks were fantastic and the trout almandine was rich and nutty, very good.
Food is delicious! Portion size is perfect! While we opted not to do the Chef's Tasting this time, we will certainly be back for it! Love that the restaurant is BYO Wine as well!
We had a drink at the bar (happy hour), and then moved on to our table and had a very good meal. We shared some small plate appetizers, the falafel balls were delicious, as was the cauliflower. I had scallops as an entree, and they were perfectly prepared and very tasty.
Only a 3 1/2 block walk up Locust Street to The Academy of Music, Garces Trading Company is a perfect location for pre-theater dining. Our early reservation (5:30) allowed us plenty of time to enjoy a delicious and beautifully presented cheese plate and our server gave us excellent descriptions of the cheeses allowing us to select 3 from 5 choices. The entres: Trout Almondine and Sea Scallops were both delicious and arrived in a timely manner as well.
Meal, drinks and atmosphere enjoyed by all.
While I stated that the noise level was moderate, I suspect when the dining room is filled as it was not the Thursday evening we were there, the noise level would be quite high.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable about the dishes and was extremely helpful to my sister in law who is gluten and dairy free. The prices seem very reasonable. Very energetic atmosphere but a bit hard to hear each other.
Their pre-theater 3 course fixed price meal was delicious -- plenty of choices and plenty of food. Service was very good as well.
This time we went for the Sunday Family dinner. DELICIOUS!!
and quite a bargain for $25...3 courses...family style.
Our waitress was great, the food was delicious. Great place to go before seeing a show.
One of my favorite places in the city, Garces Trading Company delivers excellent food & service. For bread and cheese lovers, this place is hard to beat. The homemade mozzarella is worth the trIp!
WE had a good experience. WE shared the meatballs appetizer which was delicious. WE also the seafood salad which was ok. We also shared the steak with fries which was also very good. Bread was very good....we will probably go back. Very nice waiter.
Wonderful brunch. Excellent white sangria (seasonal).
Good food and service was good but problems with new staff lead to food coming out out of order. The brunch atmosphere was great and I highly recommend
We had the pre-theater menu for $35 each. Thought the choices and the food were both very good. We enjoyed ourselves very much.
Great lunch & drinks before a show. Especially enjoyed the melted mozzarella appetizer and the Red Sangria.
Loved the olives and the meatballs and my steak Verde was delicious. Great selection of wines. The homemade mozzarella was more firm than I expected but good. (Just not a burrata style, FYI). Service was friendly and accommodating.
This was our second time and we enjoyed the food. I felt the service was not as attentive or as friendly as our first time. We will definitely go again but ask for a different server.
Food was very good. The marinated cauliflower and masala vadai were great for table appetizers. I had the chicken and foie gras canneloni which was very good with a brown butter sauce. But for $18, the portion was very small for an entree. Table mates had the short rib lasagna which was very tasty . They commented on how much they loved the lemon flavor. This was a better sized portion and was served with garlic bread. We also had the roasted chicken which was a hit. We shared a dessert - chocolate mousse which was good but also very small. I wouldn't take a hungry guy there due to portions being small but for 4 women it was good.
This was my second time here with friends. We ordered the meatballs (great!) and mozzarella (not worth the price) as apps. I had the Fusilli Cabonara for dinner (excellent!!).
Service was not optimal. We were very hungry and the waitress was very slow with drinks. The water kept being filled though; that's a plus.
Good atmosphere, fresh food, and an enjoyable time. I'd go back to try more items on the menu!
This place is a hidden treasure! I cannot believe how delicious the food was at this place. My friend and I had the brunch before the matinee Theater show. The homemade bread and pastries that are included are heavenly. I had the roasted cauliflower and smoked fish platter and ate every bit of it. I could not believe that the cocktail was included in the brunch price. I cannot wait to go back and try other menu items. I highly recommend it.
