Second visit in a week (we were visiting family in Austin). Worth the return visit.
I was there over the weekend celebrating an anniversary and had been several times before with my husband. We always enjoyed dining at Garbo's in the past but for some reason, this last visit was disappointing. There were no specials on the board, no oysters available and the food was lacking. I tried something new and had the fish and chips; the batter on the fish was undercooked in spots and fish was not as fresh as expected, since it is a restaurant specializing in seafood. The service was great, however. Overall, I'm not sure I would return after this underwhelming experience. I hope it was a one-off night but the fact that it wasn't just the food being off but that the options were no longer there with regards to specials and even the menu seemed a little sparse.
First time at Garbo’s. Seated promptly, served promptly and graciously. Food was excellent Key Lime pie was as good as anywhere we’ve eaten. A neighborhood delight!
Great food and even greater staff.
Love, love, love Garbo’s! Second time here and the food and service are great!! I would eat here all the time if we lived closer. We had lobster rolls and the lobster and waffles. Everyone was very pleased with their food and we will be back!
Loved it. Like the warm Connecticut lobster roll vs the cold lobster roll. Both good. Lobster grilled cheese was excellent. Oysters were sweet and not too briny. Smoked fish dip is a must!!
I moved to San Antonio exactly one year ago. This was my last meal in Austin before I moved. It was just as good as I remembered. Very delicious! Best lobster rolls I have ever had.
Some of the best East Coast seafood this side of the Mississippi!!! Gotta get the New England Clam Chowda and any of the Hatch Green Chile items (when in season). Make sure to stop and try the special soft serve ice cream on the way out for dessert. To. Die. For!
This was a nice quick meal for me and my husband. The food was great and it was prepared quickly! I would definitely go back.
Place seemed to be where locals dined in. Service was way to relaxed and waitresses were not well informed on items in menu, specially allergy information. Also if they are going to serve "CBD" in drinks be ready to explain what it is and the non effects of it or possible effects. Food was bland chips and fish were fried in old oil. Lobster grilled cheese was sad to look at...not to mention the lack of cheese even though they claim it was a grilled cheese sandwich...overall experience for a date night was bad, Don't bring you date here unless maybe You just want to hang out with older older local crowd.
The lobster rolls here can't be beat. Ambiance and noise-level was reasonable. Romantic, yet casual. Service was a bit slow, we sat at the table a long time before our waiter came over. Salad was a little over-dressed and the jalapeno slaw was a bit under-dressed. Overall a good experience and we'll definitely be back.
Delicious and affordable!
We had a reservation, and while our table was ready when we arrived, it was right in front of the door. We asked if we could have the next empty table back from the door, and we’re accommodated. Our server was a little slow. Oysters were mediocre, and food was just ok, this time. We’ve had better experiences in the past, and will go back, for sure. This time was just a little off the mark for us, and we’re hopeful it was an exception.
We love going to Garbo's. The staff did not see us so we waited a little bit for service. They felt so bad and gave us a free dessert. And they apologized several times for it. They are GREAT and we love the food! You should go!!!
My grandson has wanted to try an authentic lobster roll and I saw good reviews for Garbo’s. We were very happy with the quality of the rolls and my DIL thoroughly enjoyed the lobster bisque. The lobster meat was fresh and delicious. French fries well cooked, hot and nicely seasoned. Our server was helpful in guiding us about the menu and what she thought we’d enjoy. All-in-all a great experience. We’ll be back!
The food was delicious. Service was prompt. I would highly recommend Garbo's
Came in for a sit down meal. I’ve only had Garbos Lobster rolls off the food truck. Service was fast, attentive and good. Tried a cocktail good and refreshing and balanced the meal. I ordered the Maine meal, three rolls, shrimp and lobster two ways. Shrimp was okay, a little heavy on the cream which overflowed the roll. The lobster rolls were great. Sweet, salty and a good amount of buttered roll....it was good.
Delicious food, quality staff and quaint atmosphere.
I love this restaurant. I can count on great food and good service. I usually gravitate to the fish and chips, but on occassion have to get a lobster roll(s).
Great food. . . As usual!!
Wonderful service and food as always!
This was our first time trying Garbo’s. We started off with the fried Calamari and it was alright. I wasn’t a huge fan of the sauce that came with it. I then ordered the Maine lobster roll and my boyfriend got the fish and chips. His was super mediocre and mine was pretty good. Don’t know if I’ll be back but it was worth going in at least once. Our server was fantastic though!
Always come here when there’s any excuse to get out! Loved it for years. Always try to get the specials because they get the best fresh seafood!
Absolutely great food with fine service to match. Lobster grilled cheese was excellent with tasty tomato soup!
This was our first time visit to Garbo’s and it was excellent. We will definitely revisit in the future. Food was delicious and service was great.
We were directed to Garbo's by a friend. Everything was done nicely. The only minor glitch:
a member of my party, found a moth in her salad..at the everyend. The critter had been tucked underneath the bed of lettuce. We mentioned this to the waiter, and showed him the moth. He apologized and took the plate to the kitchen.. The correct action would have been: comp that meal. Instead, the kitchen voiced that possibly the moth flew into her salad at the table. NO !!! there were no offensive critters flying around the room. The moth just got into the salad at some other point. So they offered her a "free dessert". Upon deciding on the Whoopie Pie, the waiter came back and said the kitchen was out... He offered another desssert. She took the mango pie. Back to the orginal customer service: NEXT TIME COMP THAT MEAL.
We started out having a really great time in a nice restaurant, and left with a "flat" customer service solution.
Good seafood, made me think of New England. Casual environment.
Great place to grab a bite with friends! Clean, well lit and spacing around tables was perfect, not crowded in. Very friendly and helpful staff. Service was great and food was awesome! We'll be back even though it's a distance for us to travel.
Chowder great - lobster roll delicious- service fantastic
Very healthy, fresh, tastefully delicious!
Went to Garbo’s for the first time and was not disappointed. Food was great, the service friendly and the atmosphere perfect for family. Haven’t had a lobster roll since leaving the DC area 5 years ago and The lobster roll, I got both kinds, was perfect!
The small restaurant/cafe is simply lovely! I felt wisked away to New England. The maine lobster roll was phenomenal, same with New England clam chowder and fried clams.
Everyone was so nice, service & food were excellent!
The food was amazing and priced very well! The staff was very friendly. The only thing I’d suggest changing is the seating layout in the front. We seemed to be sitting very close to the table next to us on the long bench in the front. The decor was comfy and cozy, but I wish we had a little more privacy. Maybe it would have been less noticeable if the restaurant was packed out and louder, but since we were only one of three tables it was very noticeable.
Very good food and service. Highly recommend.
Garbo's is a little bit of New England in Austin. I love the spicy crab roll, lobster grilled cheese, and fried calamari but you really cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. The food trucks offer a much smaller menu but the food quality is still top notch. Definitely recommend.
The Connecticut lobster roll is so good! Large chunks of fresh lobster, yum!
We lived in Connecticut until retiring to TX. Garbo’s receives 5 stars from us New Englanders. Everything we tried was excellently prepared (clam chowder, Connecticut style lobster roll) and the staff was superb. The ambiance made us feel like we were back in Connecticut. Great job Garbo’s!
The couple with us wanted to visit your cafe and it was our honor to introduce them to great food, service and a quite environment were we could talk about kids, former jobs, and travel. We thank you, we have a good time, and we will be back.
Such a lovely spot! Food was incredible and the ambience was just darling. Can’t wait to come back.
