Lively atmosphere, fabulous views and friendly service. The food was worth the walk up from Salcombe!! We have been many times over the years with mixed results but they seem to have it just right now!! Love the reconfigured restaurant.
We walked over from Salcombe for lunch in the restaurant, quite a challenge for me but well worth it for the best fish and chips I have ever had in my long life!
Beautifully presented and piping hot, delicious battered cod, pea purée, excellent tartare sauce and amazing chips!
Washed down with a glass of Silverton sparkling English wine.
Really lovely late birthday treat, thank you!
Food was excellent-Nice to have vegan options. My husband had the muscles which he said were so fresh and delicious. Really good value for money. The staff were really friendly and so attentive. The view was amazing 🤩
Amazing placing with stunning views - the crab pot was fantastic - worth every penny ! Dog friendly too
fantastic location and a perfect place for lunch on a sunny day. A real treat
An unusual disappointment due to the weather in part. As most customers had to be accommodated inside it seemed the tables were quite close and for us we seemed on one side to be less than a metre from the adjacent table. As it was 'colder' outside the door wasn't open that much so limited ventilation. One of our party is clinically extremely vulnerable and this was her first restaurant experience in 14 months -she was sufficiently uncomfortable to request we move outside which we did. It was ok and food as ever was delicious.
Waitress was very helpful and concerned - Maitre d' was much less so "We've pre-assigned all tables and can't be changed..."
Lovely lunch at the Gara Rock after a nice coastal walk
Staff and food were very Good.
Will be back again next time we stay in Salcombe
Great place for a scenic lunch! Shame we had a misty day with no view!
Ladies wcs were out of order and inadequate facilities provided as alternative. Also not cleaned frequently enough.
Katie our waitress was wonderful!. She made the experience of superb a la carte standard food and reasonable pricing with a view to die for perfect. Well done Katie and the Chefs involved. 5stars
Lovely location and view we had Sunday lunch that was delicious a little pricy but excellent
Service was very slow. When we told them they were apologetic
Ordered mussels as main course which were very bland, asked for some bread and they gave us Foccacia which does not go with mussels all we wanted was something like 🥖
Also felt it should have come served with bread everywhere else serves with bread, they even had the cheek to charge extra for 4 small pieces
We understand that there are staff problems, but even so the food was disappointing. The carrot and lentil salad was good as was the fish and chips. However, Goan fish curry should have coconut and spices. This had a bland tomato base like a poor paella.
Staff very pleasant and it was good to be back. However we hope the food will get back to standard eventually.
Making a request for a table near the window is a must!
I was quite amazed with the quality of food particularly when I’m quite sensitive to gluten and lactose. The chef who made our starters mains and particularly desert was just pure incredible. Thank you.
Ps the view is incredible
Fantastic great table great food will be going back
Food was good. Service was good. View great
Lovely restaurant & the staff were very attentive and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious and well presented. The price for the lobster seafood messy meal & wine were slightly high in our opinion but that would not stop us going again for a special occasion because the view from the restaurant was stunning! Thank you.
Amazing setting after a lovely walk from East Portlemouth on the coastal path. Food was lovely, staff very helpful- really felt like we were eating abroad with nice music playing in the background
We come down to Salcombe each year and wanted to try another restaurant other than ‘The Jetty’. Your advert popped up on my Instagram and instantly I booked as I was wowed by the scenery and aesthetics. Here is the review from myself and my friend for last night.:
The service was seamless, the food was delicious and the views were breathtaking. Need I say more...
One particular server stood out in the team, she was young aged about 20, local and had blonde hair. Please give her a huge thank you from us, she is an asset to the restaurant at Gara Rock and made us feel incredibly warm and welcome.
We cannot wait to come back and try more of your culinary delights and cocktails next year. Thank you.
Beautiful setting but unfortunately the food and service didn't meet expectations.
Chose the restaurant at the Gara Rock for my 50th birthday. Despite the rain got my request for a window side table with a view which was stunning. Great food but the stand out was the impeccable service. Some of the best I’ve experienced in a long time- professional and friendly but unobtrusive. Highly recommend the mussels !
Lovely setting, but the wine service was a little slow and we received our wine half way through our main course.
Warm welcome, friendly helpful staff. Had asked for a window table which we got. Stunning views. Lovely position on cliff top on the SW coast path. Relaxed atmosphere even though it was quite busy. Delicious Crab and ham hock quiche from the light bite section. Quite pricey but worth it for the view and the food.
We had a lovely meal here with close ones. The staff were friendly and efficient.
The food was delicious and so were the drinks.
We cannot wait to get married here next year!
As always thank-you Gara Rock.
Even on the dullest and rainy of days it is still a stunning place to dine and relax. X
Great setting. Real shame the food we picked was really average. Burger and fish curry didn't live up to price
Very friendly efficient service. food excellent would certainly return
Great location and superb seafood, all served with a smile . The shellfish hotpot was indeed messy but delicious and their new magnum desert is to die for. Don’t be disappointed by not booking in advance especially if you have taken the scenic coastal walk to get there.
Food was delicious and view from the restaurant is stunning. We think the side dishes should be listed on the menu and wine was expensive(prices for bottles of wine should also be on the menu).
The Gara Rock made my wife's 60th birthday perfect. We had a fabulous view from where we sat. The food [we had the seafood plate] was excellent, and the service was attentive and very friendly, without ever being intrusive. We will definitely be back!!
We had a wonderful lunch at Gara Rock. The view was fabulous, the staff were very welcoming and the food was delicious. The only minor disappointment was the limited choice for vegetarians - just soup or salad - on the lunch menu; but this didn’t spoil a really great visit.
THe waitressing staff were wonderful! Super friendly and made the evening very enjoyable. They were all quite young so maybe that helped with their jolly nature and swift service! Clearly been well trained and well briefed. Food was delicious too!
If you manage to get a window seat the view s are beautiful. The waiting st aff are relaxed, warm and friendly and the food is excellent. Overall thoroughly recommend. Only word of caution;dogs allowed everywhere. We were lucky to have a very well behaved one at the next table to us but one less than well behaved dog was a bit off putting.
Really lovely food, with a fantastic view over the ocean and great customer service.
Fabulous meal during such difficult times. Definitely worth the drive
Lovely venue with great sea views. Staff very attentive and polite. Sunday lunch was lovely although my beef was a little over cooked for my preference but still tasty. Would definitely recommend the restaurant and we will be visiting again soon.
Excellent service, the staff were very friendly and extremely efficient.
The Hotel looked beautiful with all the Christmas decorations, such a stunning setting even on a Winters day.
The food was delicious and we will definitely be returning
Great lunch as always, possibly the best Scotch Egg I have ever tasted.
Lovely staff, fabulous view and wonderful food! Super Sunday lunch!
I had the mussels and they were AMAZING! Highly recommend.
