Gandy Dancer Ratings and Reviews
Seafood is the best option here. Everything is fresh and cooked really well. Considering how busy they were, our food came in a reasonable amount of time. Only criticism relates to after dinner when the valet's somehow gave my car keys to my wife who drove away with them (we drove separately). She noticed eventually and drove back, while I was helping the valets attempt to find my keys.
We love the Gandy Dancer and had a wonderful experience taking my wife there for her birthday. Lovely relaxing formal dinner with great food and great service. My seafood plate was out of this world and the prime rib was the best we have had in a very long time. Thank you!
This stone building has such character. It used to be the Michigan Central Railroad Station and you can still see the trains go by as you're in the restaurant.
Very cozy atmosphere. We were met by our waiter and began our dining experience. Nice selection of cocktails and beers. Nice bread basket. Our friends had calamari and said it was very different and very good. Most of our friends split their salad order which was fresh and plenty for two. I had the Applejack Sea Bass, very good. It had a nice hint of sweetness. My husband had the blackened rainbow trout. Both were served with a vegetable and rice. Delicious! Everyone enjoyed their meal.
Definitely worth the trip and a repeat.
Service and ambiance were excellent. The butternut squash soup and key lime pie were to die for. The only criticism would be the slow roasted prime rib - both my husband's and mine were not tender. In fact they were rubbery. We've had much better prime rib elsewhere. Everything else was outstanding.
Gandy Dancer has always been my favorite Ann Arbor restaurant. Have been there on many occasions - birthdays, anniversaries, luncheons, reunions with friends. Even tho I have moved away from Ann Arbor, still get there when I can. Excellent food, service, ambiance!
Having enjoyed excellent visits to Gandy Dancer in the past, we specifically chose it for our Anniversary dinner. Service and ambience were excellent, however, for the price the food was very disappointing. Rice was flavorless; asparagus was thick and tasteless, Since both of these items were common on the menu we would have expected them to be better prepared and flavorful. I had a good filet and the snapper my wife ordered was very tasty. However, the meal did not meet our previous expectations and was not worth the cost. Probably not revisiting the Gandy in the future.
We've been to the Gandy Dancer several times and always look forward to going there at least one time during football season in Ann Arbor. As with most Landry restaurants, the food is very good to excellent (I highly recommend the Dynamite Scallops and Crab Timbale as appetizers, and the special, Applejack Seabass as a main course) and the atmosphere is unique (In an old train station) and inviting. Generally the staff are well-trained (No pun intended!), but unfortunately our waiter this last visit, wasn't polished. Despite my attempts to slow down our pace of the meal (we were there to have a relaxing evening), he was intent upon rushing us. My wife's drink had not even arrived and he was asking for us to order our main courses. Despite the minor glitch in service, we still enjoyed the meal and the evening.
Our waiter Jay was excellent and offered the specials with explanation. Our meal was delivered with very little wait and we were all pleased with our choices of entrees. Jay Also offered the Landry’s Club offer, which we declined. Near the end of our meal I noticed he placed a brochure on the table. We decided to check it over and due to his further explanation we decided to enroll. The Gandy Dancer is a family tradition that goes way back and still our favorite choice for dining when in Ann Arbor.
We went for Thanksgiving so they were super busy and we got the Thanksgiving dinner special meal. It was good and the portion was large.
We went on our anniversary and they printed special menus with our names on them. They brought our wine in special glasses that my husband had dropped off to Surprise me. They handled our special occasion very well.
We enjoyed our first visit to Gandy Dancer, for Thanksgiving dinner. The restaurant is lovely, and although I'm sure it was full that evening, it didn't have a hectic, crowded atmosphere. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive or making us feel hurried. My husband had the "traditional turkey dinner;" I had jumbo shrimp scampi; and our daughter had escargots and lobster tail with coconut ginger rice. While everyone enjoyed his dinner, I think my scampi was the winner -- it was the best I've ever had. The only disappointment was the Martha's Vineyard Salad, which looked and tasted like a plate of torn up lettuce. We ended with that rare dessert menu where every single dessert is tempting! We shared the cheesecake and were not disappointed. Look forward to returning.
We arrived on time for our reservation for five. We were nothing but patient and gracious when the service was appallingly slow (waited a full hour before being able to order entrees). Then when we were about to order dessert and after-dinner drinks we were told “all desserts will have to be to go because there is another party waiting on your table”. It was our family’s Thanksgiving meal, and the conversation was going strong-and then abruptly terminated with us being unceremoniously rushed out the door. Without knowing whether it was the server’s fault or the kitchen’s fault, we still left a good tip. But certainly will never eat there again. Bad enough they took out the piano bar-but this was a new low.
We were here on Thanksgiving Day, admittedly a busy time for the staff and kitchen. The entrees were brought out before we received our appetizers and then simply brought back to us without re-warming 20 minutes later after we had finished our appetizers. We then had to send the entrees back for re-heating. The apple pie served for dessert was simply abysmal. We have had better meals at the Gandy Dancer, but they didn’t have their act together on this particular day.
We met our family for Thanksgiving dinner. Our waiter DAN was exceptional. The atmosphere was very festive. We were there for an Amtrak passing which was exciting (story on the back of the menu). When I called to confirm our reservation I became quite concerned....even developed a back-up plan in case we were greeted with as much disdain as I felt via the phone but all was GREAT when the actual time arrived. No Worries
We were there for Thanksgiving lunch. I had seafood (because seafood) and my SO, being vegetarian, had the only vegetarian main on the menu. Which hasn’t changed since we met almost 4 years ago. If they could switch that up once in awhile or maybe offer seasonal options, that’d be great! But, the fish is always transcendent, and the squash bisque is out of this world. Great cocktails, too!
Stunning surroundings coupled with perfectly proportioned delicious meals and wide-ranging selection. Gandy Dancer has been well-known for decades for good reason. Our experience was wonderful: Friendly, personalized professional service in a sense-captivating ambience. We loved it!
