We ordered prime rib, very chewy meat, service was slow, drinks were average, need to rework the Mule drinks so they are more enjoyable. The wedge salad was really good.
The very thin piece of planked salmon was overwhelmed with the too large pieces of grilled vegetables and potatos. Kale salad -had to really search to find the small pieces of beets -too much kale and not enough of the other ingredients. Crab cakes were good, snapper excellent.
Wine list offered on menu was unremarkable; wine book too big and heavy to bother with.
Valet parking is essential but it was raining and would have preferred to wait to have car pulled up to the awning over the entrance rather than having attendants open doors causing us to walk out into the rain to get in the car. No line up just one car in front (part of our group) of door.
Atmosphere galore in old railway station. Food was hot, creative and very tasty the service was very attentive. This remains the place to go for a special time.
Amazing food and great service! Second year in a row we've celebrated our wedding anniversary there and I see no reason why that shouldn't continue!
The food was great and the were attentive. Special requests were not frowned upon.
While the food was of good quality and tasty there were a few issues we encountered. For a 1:00 PM brunch reservation we were seated promptly and directed to the Brunch buffet. The problem was that the brunch assortment which was quite extensive looked picked over and not full. The smoked salmon platter dissapeared and not replenished. When i inquired, a staff member explained that "we ran out" The dessert platters seemed unfilled as did many platters by the time we served ourselves. In my opinion all offerings need to be abundant at all times. Brunch was not advertised as a first come first serve situation. My advise is to reserve for an early timeslot.
Everything was great except the location of our table. We were on a busy path way.
U of M Homecoming Brunch the day following the game. Food was perfect, the service excellent. We enjoyed out visit.
Great overall. The brunch offering was breakfast centric and could use more lunch food items including a larger carving station. Otherwise worth the trip.
Unique location and history - servers were wonderful and attentive - food was good
This is a quiet one of a kind restaurants that can’t be missed. If you are driving near Ann Arbor this is a must stop, worth the drive type place! Great history! Fantastic food!
We have been going to this restaurant for years, and have always enjoyed it. Our most recent visit was disappointing on most every level. The food, always very good in the past, was mediocre at best. The portions were small, and in some cases the food was tasteless. The noise level was overpowering. I realize it was a Friday night of a football weekend, but we could barely speak to one another across the table. The service and staff were fine, but overall not a good experience, and certainly not worth the expense.
Excellent service and delicious food. Outstanding ambience and a wonderful restaurant to return to next time in Ann Arbor.
The food was fantastic, the waiter was beyond what you'd want a waiter to be and the bottled water was so pure and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed the evening, thank you Gandy Dancer
The ambiance is amazing - the food was absolutely delicious. Great menu with wonderful choices. Service was just okay - He was nice yet not very attentive? I would definitely go back! Gave 4 star only because of the service.
The entire staff was incredible; valet, hostess, waitress. Every one of our meals was delicious. Highly recommend for any occasion.
Well I was not expecting that!!! The cocktails were off the HOOK!!!! We’ll be back, soon and often.
Go light on the mains, they’re just not that good and they’re expensive. Apps and salads were fab and cocktails were incredible.
Celebrated my sister & brother in laws 50th Anniversary. Staff was exceptional and food was wonderful. Nice touch on the personalized menu for them. Really impressed.
Manage would not accept Landry club reward because I did not have card with me. My phone number was on file and I had Id. They accepted before. General manager was not friendly at all. Will never go back
Service was excellent. Ordered shrimp scampi. Shrimp were over cooked and tough. After dinner coffee was cold. Was disappointed by these two gaffs. Probably won't return soon.
We went for a memorial luncheon on a Sunday during brunch. The food was delicious, we saw familiar servers and the atmosphere was enveloped in the sounds of live jazz:) We always enjoy our visits to the Gandy 💖
Service was very good. Good was excellent. Brunch is definitely the time to go for those who appreciate excellent buffet style food. The ambiance was very good, and staff was always kind, smiling and extremely helpful.
After living in the area for my entire life, finally went to the Gandy Dancer for a special day.
Everything lived up to all hype I've ever heard about the establishment. I wish I started coming decades ago.
Was a great place to start for my wife's birthday. Food was amazing, the staff was friendly. Overall a nice place.
The food was delicious, the service was great, and the building was beautiful. Loved the history of it. We were there for my husband’s birthday. He’s a history buff as well as a train enthusiast. We had a cozy table next to the window, with a clear view of the tracks. Just before we left, a train came through. What a treat! We will definitely be coming back.
The ambiance was better than the food. I got the weekend special prime rib which was dry and over cooked. My wife’s filet was good, but for what we paid, I expected far more. Additionally, our waiter spoke so softly we could never hear him over the noise of the restaurant. We had a nice time, but the food certainly did not meet our expectations. When the manager found out I had not enjoyed my food she just kind of shrugged and said she would tell the chef.
Excellent cuisine, superb ambiance, and very historical
We have been here before but came this time for our anniversary which I noted on our Open Table reservation. Every person we came in contact with wished us happy anniversary. The food was delicious. My husband had the duck and loved it. I had the filet and it was flavorful and cooked per my request (something I find lacking frequently when dining out). The staff was friendly, on top of our every need and we didn’t feel like we were rushed out the door. Even the valet staff were friendly, funny and personable. Always a wonderful experience and delicious food.
My daughter wanted to go the the gandy dancer for her birthday, it was a relaxing, fun family dinner, the views of the old station are fascinating, the wait staff makes you feel comfortable and at ease, it is always great food never a disappointment. A real must visit if ever in the neighborhood and want good food and a relaxing atmosphere..
This was our first visit to the Gandy Dancer. The restaurant itself is lovely, with it's rail station charm. We went for our anniversary and it was amazing. While not inexpensive, the food and the service was well worth it. From the complimentary valet, to the hostess who offered us options on seating for our special occasion, to our amazing server Jay, not a moment was less than perfect. We were not disappointed and cannot wait to return!
Great food, great service, and great friends - a great combination
Got a table for 12 on 23 SEP 18 for Sunday Brunch. I had made reservations, but this was a Football Weekend in Ann Arbor. From the valet service, the table service and the spectacular brunch, this was a smooth, wonderful and fabulous experience. If you've got the budget, splurge and indulge yourself. This is the best Sunday Brunch in Ann Arbor!
was a UofM game day and busy. Could have used more support staff otherwise perfect
Birthday celebration- waiter wasn’t great at making sure people had drinks throughout the evening.... water, wine, beer or coffee after....
Great history and atmosphere, and the food is excellent.
Great for any occasion.
We have been to the Dancer several times over the years and traditionally have been pleased overall.
However our last visit was disappointing, especially as we hosted out of town family.
Four of our dinner guests had significant food complaints:
A whitefish came out no more than room temperature
A snapper dish had several bits of shell
A chicken dish was also barely warm and was more cheese than chicken
A steak ordered medium rare was served well done
Service was very slow and hard to get a hold of. Drinks were empty for the majority of the time. Found out after we had drinks and an appetizer that one of the mains was no longer available. 20 min after ordering. Took over an hour to get the mains. Food was good but def not worth it.
Meal took FORVER. And at the end of the meal we are offered free dessert. Seriously? After almost 2 hours why would we want to stay an extra minute longer. Thanks but no thanks. Not what you expect from what’s supposed to be a fine establishment in Ann Arbor. Not blaming the waiter - the manager needs additional training on customer service...Won’t be returning.
good service, steak was significantly overcooked and nothing tasted like it was seasoned at all.
This is a beautiful restaurant located in the old authentic Michigan Central Railroad station in Ann Arbor.
Just being in this building is amazing.
When the trains come through everyone starts clapping, they know the significance of this beautiful place.
We always ask for a track-side table (indoors).
Seafood is their specialty but everything is excellent.
Great place for special occasions.
Use the free valet parking and make your life easier.
We have been here a dozen times and it is always excellent.
