The beautiful historical surroundings of the building are wonderful! Excellent service and very good food!
One of the best lunches I have ever had - great food and great service
Awesome it was great. Xxxxxxxx.
Lovely experience, a little pricey but my wife and I enjoyed every minute of our Anniversary!
We went for Fathers Day and it was our first experience there. The service was great, the food was delicious and flavorful and the atmosphere was outstanding. The calamari was fabulous, the prime rib was tender and juicy and the filet and lobster was superb! The free valet parking was a bonus and the young gentlemen working were super friendly and fast! We will definitely be back again.
A wonderful Father’s Day celebration with my family.
We like to celebrate events and have regular dinners at the Gandy Dancer. Food is excellent and our server, Lisa, was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Overall a great experience for Fathers Day.
Let me first say that we love Gandy Dancer. It is our "go to" restaurant when we want a beautiful environment and really excellent food. That said, we were a little disappointed in their Fathers' Day brunch. The food wasn't as fresh as one would hope, the space was very crowded, the dessert table was devoid of offerings (and didn't seem to be replenished), and the noise level was way out of the norm. Our server was still impeccable in her professionalism and hospitality, so all was not lost. We will definitely be back - as I said, we love the place. We just won't go back for brunch - especially on a holiday.
Gandy Dancer, is highly rated due to their excellent staff, from start (valet parking) to finish (waiter/waitress) there large variety of food is fresh and very tasty, the ambiance is absolutely beautiful, the music is inviting. What a well-rounded place in such a beautiful city. I would recommend anyone to visit at least once put this on your bucket list make it your priority to visit . I promise it will be a reoccurring trip.
We go to Gandy Dancer on special occasions and dinner with friends. We love it. It really is a 5 start restaurant.
Our trip to the Gandy Dancer to celebrate our anniversary last weekend was fantastic. Parking was easy (with Valet service available), and someone held the door and greeted us on our way in. They had our table and a great waiter (Dan) ready. The atmosphere was excellent, the service attentive without being overbearing, and the food was possibly the best I've ever eaten (highly recommend the seared scallops with couscous and Shitake mushrooms). And my wife's favorite part - probably a tie between the peach Sangria, and the customized menus that they rolled up and tied in a ribbon for us to take home.
Oh, and I can't leave out the complimentary creme brulee they gave us for dessert.
I think this will be a new tradition for us.
The Gandy was outstanding! Food was terrific! Mike was awesome as our “food guide”; waiter just doesn’t do him justice!! It is priced on the high side, BUT, the food was awesome! I can’t use enough superlatives. We will definitely return when we go back to An Arbor...
Really nice location and ambiance for a family birthday party!
We had a wonderful dinner, the food was great and the service was excellent. I would definitely dine there again. Really nice in every way. Thank you GD staff !
The summer menu is here and gazpacho is back... always delicious. I had the Swordfish and braised cabbage (summer special) and highly recommend it. My dinning partner had the Pepper Crusted Tenderloin Medallions that was cooked to perfection. Like always their dinners are full of fabulous flavors. Our server, David H, was informative and entertaining, we always enjoy when David is our server.! No Amtrak train tonight.. but always a bonus when one pull through.
Our server was bad which made our dinner less than what we usually get at the Gandydancer. Also I ordered the shrimp scampi and the pasta was all clumped up into chewy bites. My husband ordered the filet medium but it was medium well. The server boxed my leftovers and put them in a bag but carried the bag so the box went sideways and the sauce from the scampi leaked out in the bag and all over the box. She put my soup down in the middle of the table and it sloshed nearly out of the bowl. She handed me my appetizer plate rather than setting it down at my spot. She was nice enough but was just a bad server.
Overpriced for poorly prepared food. Most food prior prepared in anticipation of large crowds. Salad wilted/room temperature. Proteins prior cooked them "warmed". Fish and or shellfish prior frozen. Steak poorly prepared. Cooks do not know difference between rare, medium rare, or medium, etc. Service etiquette a joke. Serve persons closer to staff....then reach over guests food to serve another guest. Wait staff sleeves touching guests food. Environment, dirty!!! If dining area thus dirty can you imagine what the kitchen looks like?? Go somewhere else.
Although the cook on our steaks was inconsistent, the quality and taste was top notch. The service was a bit aloof but friendly. The restaurant is beautiful. Valet parking convenient. I would highly recommend.
They've retained much of the building's character from its former life as a train depot. That translates into a great deal of charm as a restaurant. Everything other than the food was really terrific. The ambiance (of course) and service were both great - but, the food wasn't great. It was pretty ordinary. I'd still recommend the place because of it's uniqueness. But, if gourmet food is your primary thing, you'll be disappointed.
Went to the Gandy Dancer for a business lunch during Ann Arbor restaurant week. Restaurant week offerings were excellent, as was the service. GD never disappoints!
While the salad was very good, the entree was rather "pathetic." A Large Plate might be a mistake when you are only going to serve a tiny piece of chix breast, which wasn't even visible under the decorative greens and carrot slivers...and to add to it, it was dry...
I was due to have lunch there again on 26th, and have since yesterday canceled that ...
Great experience! Will return!
Laura was a great waitress! All the staff was great and the pantry staff gave especially great service!
frequently go to dinner with friends and always find everyone enjoys it. Sea food outstanding.
They don't push you out to get the table.
We were there during Ann Arbor Restaurant Week and ordered from the prix fixe menu. Food was excellent. Loved the watermelon salad - great for summer. This is THE place for seafood. James, the bartender, was very friendly and an excellent server.
Gandy Dancer is a fantastic restaurant for any occasion. The service is always superb and the food is fantastic! Gandy Dancer is always my first choice for a fancy well priced meal.
Went for anniversary. Staff was fabulous. They all were aware it was our anniversary and treated us to the highest regard. Food was good but not excellent. Definitely a little pricey but the ambiance and the staff made up for it.
For several years, I have made a road trip from Florida to Ann Arbor to visit family & friends, and it is now something of a tradition that Dad "pops" for dinner for the 6 of us. Never been disappointed!
Everything was great as usual. Joanne is a fabulous server. Our only complaint is the main dish came out as we were finishing our soup/salad course. It would be nice to have some time in between.
Great restaurant, Restaurant Week or not. Been dining there for years.
Great food, great service, great ambiance! Always a first class experience.
Greeted with smiles and asked to wait for a minute, we were 15 minutes early. Arrived at our table and notice the top of our menu congratulated us on our anniversary with our names--perfect. Waitress kept congratulating us on our anniversary and the service was perfect. Nice wait in between courses and they even made a drink for us that wasn't on the menu. Dessert offered us a free creme brulee that was out of this world. Perfect evening--if only a train would have gone by.
My wife and I of 5 years recently celebrated her birthday at the Gandy Dancer. It was our 3rd date and will always be worth the 45 minute drive to Ann Arbor for the experience of this outstanding restaurant.
Our waiter Jessica was terrific. She was always close but never intrusive. Her smile and friendly manner made us feel like very special guests. The food was terrific. I had the beef medallions. I ordered them medium and that is exactly how they came. All of the sauces and seasonings were spot-on. My wife had the whitefish. She also enjoyed the contrasting flavors and textures. Both of us enjoy a meal that offers new tastes and presentations. For us, this is what separates a good meal from a great meal, and our meal at Gandy Dancer was a great meal.
The ambiance was also very nice. We requested a booth in our reservation, and they offered us two choices. One was a regular booth, while the other let us sit side by side and watch out the large expance of windows. We chose to sit side by side, which made conversation easy. The view was very nice. It was also fun to watch the waiters hurry around the dining room and do an amazing job at every table.
One of the best meals I’ve had while out dining in a long time. Great food, service and staff
I quite enjoyed the restaurant
Food was good, but not great. My date had scallops elsewhere the night before that were both larger and cooked better than both the dynamite scallops appetizer and the lunch menu scallops. The soup was tasty, but not what we were expecting for chowder. The service was top notch, especially when I dumped my water glass. Overall, it was good, but for the price, I expected better on the food.
Great food especially the lobster bisque. The staff are very knowledgeable and attentive. Overall wonderful.
We waited over 90 minutes for our food. The mashed potatoes were over salted; the filet mignonette over-cooked. The gazpacho was terrific.
