There were no gluten free desserts available at the buffet. However, chef Jessie did his best to accomodate us and made a special one for us.
I took my wife here for her birthday. First time we have been here since we were college students at Michigan, about 20yrs ago. The food was excellent, but the service was even better.
Excellent food presentation. Service as one would expect. I chose the Alaskan halibut entry. As good as it gets! This is my “go to” restaurant when I’m in Ann Arbor.
We had an excellent server, Ian. He was helpful and informative, just the right amount of attention.
Wonderful food as always
We were celebrating a birthday. The guest received her lunch and the meat wasn’t fully cooked. It was returned and brought back. I would’ve thought they might do something for a birthday celebration but they didn’t. Even after the food episode, no modifications were made other than the correction of the food. Disappointed by that.
This restaurant had some of the best food I have ever had in Ann Arbor. It was a lovely change from our usual date place, The Real Seafood Company. It is very expensive, we spent are 145 after tip. So be prepared to shell out some cash, but you kind of expect it at a place like this.
Our server was a friend of mine, which was really fun. He did a great job, was very friendly, and gave us lots of recommendations on what we should try.
The Gandy Dancer was a lovely place and would definitely recommend for special occasions and special dates. I honestly can't imagine anything else better in the Ann Arbor area.
Good Mother’s Day experience
The food was unbelievable and the portions were spot on, the wait staff was outstanding and on top of everything needed, very good experience, will frequent again.
Great for special occasions. Just a solid special occasion venue.
this restaurant was recommended to me a year ago. I am pleased I took the time to come and experience such excellent service. The food was great and the ambience was better.
Sunday brunch was outstanding. Great selection, great drinks, and our 2.5 year old also approved. Would definitely recommend.
Really nice brunch. The restaurant staff works hard and it shows in the finished product!!
It was a wonderful evening to celebrate Mother's Day. Our server was outstanding - pleasant and social. The dinners were terrific. It was a dining experience.
We arrived early for our reservation and they took us in right away. That was impressive. The waiter was very attentive, however, it seemed that we were being rushed a little to come eat and go. Valet was extremely patient and helpful. The customer experience was good otherwise.
Delicious food in a beautiful setting. Definitely worth the 30 mile drive.
Awesome place . The food and dining experience was great and our server Scott was very attentive. We will definitely be back
Gandy Dancer is always great it is absolutely amazing
Perfect place to celebrate our 15 year anniversary! My wife’s halibut was best ever as was my surf and turf. Server Jay made it a wonderful event!
We were celebrating a very special day and the Gandy Dancer made it even more special. The food, the service, the entire lunch was wonderful. We wish we lived in the area to enjoy this gem more often. If you are live in Ann Arbor you are fortunate to have this great option, if not like us, we'll try to visit when we are in town. Great day, made better by a great restaurant!
Each time I go there the host directs me to an undesirable corner by an exit. It is as if they are trying to hide me. Maybe they should be trained to place people there only as a last resort. The place was half empty when they last did that to me.
Staff was very attentive without being intrusive. The food was excellent with a good selection. The old train depot makes for great ambiance.
Ian was our server, extremely knowledgeable, professional and friendly. They acknowledged our anniversary with a personalized menu greeting and free dessert. Food was very good and creative. Would recommend for any special occasion.
Wonderful location. Please paint the tags on the cement bridge enbankment, as the view would be very nice if you did.
Delicious fresh food and attentive service make this a nice restaurant.
Our waitress was exceptional, the food was excellent, and we thoroughly enjoyed our brunch.
We attended Sunday Brunch to celebrate three birthdays and Mother’s Day a week early. We really enjoy the selection. There is something for everyone, even children.
The Gandy Dancer Sunday Brunch buffet has slipped in recent years. The service and ambiance remains good but I will be hesitant to return again unless I see better reviews.
We dined here for our anniversary. Great service and a nice touch by printing Happy Anniversary and our name on the top of the menu. Good food and nice cool atmosphere. highly recommend.
Service was excellent, food was superb, everything was just fantastic . 10/10 would recommend. I will definitely be returning. Prices aren’t bad at all either .
Visited for prom, had a great meal with a super neat atmosphere. Food prices are night than most places, but not out of reason, especially for the quality of the food (excellent)
We had a wonderful time for our first time visit. The building is unique. The tradition of clapping when the train goes by is memorable. The Smoked Manhattan was fabulous and the attention to detail impressive. The wait staff is well trained and the souvenir menu with our name on it was appreciated. The whole experience for an anniversary was outstanding and the complimentary desert was a nice touch. Can't wait to go back .
It’s been years since we visited the Gandy Dancer. We met a friend for dinner. The ambiance was Great::: two trains passed by! Food was good.
The only disappointment was that our server , Josh was really out of it. We thought he could be stoned or really tired
We will be back. We live by the River Crab in St Clair and eat there several times each month
End of school year
Very nice highly recommended
I went to the Gandy Dancer this friday to celebrate my son’s UofM graduation and I was extremely disappointed. I grew up in Ann Arbor, so I had been here many times and thought this would be a great place to celebrate this exciting moment. I am sharing this review because, as a Chef and restauranteur, I know the issues that we experienced are preventable through proper kitchen and front of house management .
1. We had to return the food because it was cold. Three of seven plates that were ordered were sent back. This included two prime ribs. One of the plates was still cold the second time around. We also saw a table next to us return all their orders because it was cold.
2. For a restaurant that attempts to be the best in Ann Arbor; there was no non garlic bread option or even gluten free bread option.
3. The manager came to us after 2 hrs and told us that we had to leave because we had been there more than two hours. Keep in mind we had seven people, the food took a long time to come out. The appetizers and mains had to be returned and it was a celebration lunch so there were wine bottles ordered and drinks for the occasion which had to be finished since the manager, even after how terrible the service had been asked us to leave.
4. All of the above were pretty terrible, but the worst part was telling them there was an allergy and the plate coming to the person with the ingredient clearly being used.
After this experience i will never come back to this restaurant and i encourage management to take a seriously look at their proceses and customer experience team to receive more training and high volume management.
The restaurant was very busy the evening we were there (University of Michigan graduation ) . Noise level was loud. Food preparation seemed to suffer from the crowd pressure. Waiter did a very nice job in a rather frenetic atmosphere.
We had an excellent experience. Food cooked as ordered. And excellent service for the whole meal!
