Herring each passing train is part of the charm. Food was scrumptious.
I usually love the Gandy Dancer. This time it was okay but not great. I don't eat seafood or steaks so the options are limited for someone like me. They used to have a Parmesan chicken that I loved but that's not on the menu anymore so I decided to try the smoked gouda stuffed chicken. I have no complaints for the chef, since it wasn't poorly made, but it's not something I would order again. Smoked gouda and chicken don't make the best combo, in my opinion. My wife enjoyed her pecan crusted whitefish, however.
For dessert we ordered the Media Luna, which have enjoyed before on several occasions. This time it was not up to par, as the mousse was too runny, which was not an enjoyable texture.
Overall, I would still recommend the Gandy Dancer, since I tend to write this less than great experience off as an anomaly. Also, there are a lot more options for most people who do eat seafood and/or steaks, so having a favorite dish taken off the menu is not that big of a deal for most.
Been to a lot of nice restaurants and your restaurant was by far my favorite.i give it a 5 for everything.
Seafood dominated menu, nice drink specialty list, interesting decor, professional wait staff, above-average restaurant
The food as always was very good. The service was very disappointing this time. Our waiter was largely disengaged in making my wife feel special for her birthday dinner.
The food and service were excellent. And the atmosphere of an old train station is very cool. When a train passes the tradition is for patrons and staff to applaud which occured twice during our meal. I highly recommend it!
The dinner and service were excellent. I was a bit disappointed by the Martha’s’ Vineyard salad, which was not up to standard (limp lettuce and too much dressing). Overall we enjoyed our birthday dinner/celebration. We’ll be back to see if it was a one-off problem with the salad as I expect it was.
Nice relaxing meal.
Wonderful dining experience! Great place for all occassions.
Love Gandy Dancer. The setting is just so unique and the food is great. The brunch has everything one could hope for. Their regular evening menu is also succulent.
Great for casual or formal brunch, whichever you prefer. Live music was wonderful and food even better!
Great buffet choices surrounded by a wonderful historic building.
It had been several years since we had been to Gandy Dancer as it had really gone down hill. We tried again recently and it has quickly become one of my favorites again. Great food, service and ambience. The East Meets West Tuna appetizer is the BEST!
Delightful and classy!
Had not visited in a few years. Better than ever! We both enjoyed every course.
The service and seafood are always great at Gandy Dancer. Never had a poor experience there.
good gluten-free options and a great place for a special occasion
Wonderful food wonderful service! Don’t know why we waited so long to return.
Friend’s were visiting from Israel. They loved the food and restaurant.
Brought four first-time Gandy Dancer visitors for lunch for a special occasion, which I'd indicated in our reservation (special occasion - was never asked about). While our greeting and seating could have been handled better by host station, the server did a great job. Suggest you don't arrive early for your reservation, don't arrive right at opening, and don't wait for server to ask if it's a special occasion. Apparently ain't gonna happen.
Everything was delicious. Will do again.
Great experience again great service and the food was awesome filet and lobster can't go wrong
The atmosphere is wonderful - gorgeous building - but the food, while certainly adequate, is not inspired. Go there for a good meal, but don't expect to be wowed.
We went to the Gandy Dancer for our wedding anniversary and were really disappointed with the food. My wife's white fish came out cold and the rice was cold & sticky. My shrimp scampi was just warm.
As always, a great experience at the Gandy Dancer! We came here with family to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The service is always spectacular and I love the little touches, like printing his name on a commemorative menu. The food was on point. I had the seasonal scallop dish with asparagus & mushroom risotto and pea purée. Delicious!
Server, Brandy, was fun, very responsive to our needs and a complete pleasure. Mostly seafood menu is exquisite, everyone enjoyed their entree. Will definitely return as soon as possible.
Excellent food and service
Venue and ambiance is outstanding
The perfect place to gather family and friends to celebrate a birthday.
We had a lovely Easter dinner at Gandy Dancer. We drove in from Lansing to take our daughter out and it was worth the drive! Prime rib was so-so according to those who had it, but they have a great seafood selection and it was all fabulous! Wonderful atmosphere in an unusual historic building. Great salad, their featured wine was very good and reasonably priced. Excellent service.
We came for Easter dinner with our college kids. Great food and service as usual. Noise level a little high and hard to hear at times. Interior Looked a little worn here and there and needed a good cleaning. Food still excellent as well as the service.
Went for Easter Brunch, food was excellent, service great, all staff helpful and friendly.
I went to Easter Brunch with my dad. It was a very clean building. Very busy since it was Easter Sunday. There was lots of seating and a huge buffet. The servers were prompt and polite. I would highly recommend someone going here and I would like to come back myself.
The food needs to be replenished faster when out in a buffet setting. Also they way over booked.
It was delicious, the fish was very fresh! The service couldn’t be better!!
pricey, small portions, slow service, and totally cold food
We enjoyed this restaurant very much , will go back.
Chose Gandy Dancer based on a review I read. We were not disappointed!! Food, service and ambiance were exceptional!! Looking forward to a return visit!
Lived in Ann Arbor for over 50 years. Through its history always considered it my favorite.
We’ve been to the Gandy several times and are members but our appetizer was presented differently than before. We asked ahead of time to have our servings spaced but our salad was served while we were still eating our appetizer. As a result, it was not crisp. The ginger rice was flavorless and the broccoli was bland. Presentation was good. Our waitress did not rush us after we asked her. She was good, personable, informative, explaining the dishes
