Gandy Dancer Ratings and Reviews
Overall not bad!! it was a busy Saturday night from drinks to dessert we were there for almost 3 hours. They had to remake my dinner. then when it came to dessert they were all out of what we wanted. Witch was disappointing since it was my wife's birthday and that's what she wanted the most. Good staff however we had 3 different servers at the beginning of the night because they didn't know who's section we belonged to. With that I spent over $300 for 4 people and remade my dinner and also didn't even have dessert for my wifes birthday.
I was disappointed in our meal. The food tasted processed and came to our table in what seemed like 1/2 hour after our seating and we felt rushed. We had to ask for a bread basket that did not come to the table until the end of our meal. Not the same good tasting food and relaxing time out as I remember the Gandy Dancer.
The Gandy Dancer is one of our favorite dining destinations in Ann Arbor. The setting is historic, and if you can time your dinner when a train goes by, it is certainly noteworthy. They have some interesting and unique entrees (roasted salmon with maple glaze, roasted kale & butternut squash, vanilla sweet potato mash). Prices are moderate.
This was during Restaurant Week, so I ordered off of their special menu. I had a reservation, but my train was late. They had no problem helping with that, despite some obvious hints that their reservations were full. Nevertheless, plenty of open space. The food was interesting, and quite good, but cold by the time it got to me. Service was generally slow that night, and a bit distracted. Possibly other parts of the restaurant were more full, but my area sure wasn't. None of these problems kept me from having a good meal. Their cocktails are also excellent, though it took a few tries to make sure mine actually came back from the bar.
You can’t find a better place to celebrate a special event. The food is unbelievable and the service was incredible. We’ve been there several times for the Sunday buffet and it offers a wonderful assortment of breakfast and lunch items. The staff were quick to replenish the food items and the ability to order an omelet made to order was appreciated by a member of our party.
Had excellent service and good food. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the menu items and answered all our questions completely and politely. The only thing that didn't please me was Ann Arbor's parking meters placed across the street in front of the restaurant. I didn't realize that the restaurant had complimentary parking because that information wasn't available until I approached the front door - well after I had dropped almost four dollars into the meter.
This was my first time at the Gandy Dancer and I was not disappointed. Everything about the experience was incredible - from the hostess at the front to the walk through the restaurant to our table - near the window with a beautiful view- to the first bite of the homemade bread and then everything that followed! I had high expectations of dining in such a fine establishment and they were not only met but exceeded! Can't wait to go back! HIGHLY recommend the almond encrusted brie! :)
In general the food is great. I love the roasted salmon and the kale salad. The desserts are fun and tasty. Some of my party had the butternut squash chowder and said it was delicious but very heavy on the butter which was a shame. I think that less fat in most of the mains would be a good thing.
We had a wonderful server (David). We had a few issues which were not our servers fault. We were seated near the back which is normally not a problem. However, there was a VERY LOUD party in the very back room which made our conversations with our friends sometimes impossible. (Note: sometimes these things just happen but I would encourage the leadership team consider limiting seating near such a big party in the future.
They do have a wonderful wine selection. The environment is fun and usually quite. Was a little disappointed with the new menu options. They do have some wonderful meat options. However, it seemed the seafood options were a little disappointing and there was only one pasta option.
It is January and cold so we assumed there are fewer folks eating out. Hopefully, our next visit will be more like "old times.'
Everything was perfect, besides the cut of steak received. The steak ordered was medium rare but came as barely rare. We asked for another and that was cooked well. However both had little marbling, but large pieces of fat on the sides which were inedible.
Besides that, everything was perfect and my gf was EXTREMELY SATISFIED. We’ll definitely be back for many more times as we decided to make it our nice restaurant for special occasions. The wait staff was fantastic, thank you very much bill.
The lunch was a wonderful experience.
The ambiance was great, So was the service and so was the food.
A train went by and we all clapped.
It was my birthday and I can think of no other restaurant for the occasion.
It was also enjoyed by me daughter and my grandson.
My husband and I went to Gandy Dancer for our wedding anniversary dinner. It was a perfect evening in every way. We sat right next to the fireplace which was so romantic and cozy. Food was wonderful and service was great. Perfect evening in every way! We’ll be back for sure!! Thank you!
Always really like this restaurant. Would be 5 stars but we waited an hour after our salad for our main course . Two members of our party are diabetic and had taken their insulin anticipating a shorter time for main dish. They had extra bread but not what they wanted to happen .
Hope this is an unusual kitchen blip.
