Gandy Dancer Ratings and Reviews
In general the food is great. I love the roasted salmon and the kale salad. The desserts are fun and tasty. Some of my party had the butternut squash chowder and said it was delicious but very heavy on the butter which was a shame. I think that less fat in most of the mains would be a good thing.
We had a wonderful server (David). We had a few issues which were not our servers fault. We were seated near the back which is normally not a problem. However, there was a VERY LOUD party in the very back room which made our conversations with our friends sometimes impossible. (Note: sometimes these things just happen but I would encourage the leadership team consider limiting seating near such a big party in the future.
They do have a wonderful wine selection. The environment is fun and usually quite. Was a little disappointed with the new menu options. They do have some wonderful meat options. However, it seemed the seafood options were a little disappointing and there was only one pasta option.
It is January and cold so we assumed there are fewer folks eating out. Hopefully, our next visit will be more like "old times.'
Everything was perfect, besides the cut of steak received. The steak ordered was medium rare but came as barely rare. We asked for another and that was cooked well. However both had little marbling, but large pieces of fat on the sides which were inedible.
Besides that, everything was perfect and my gf was EXTREMELY SATISFIED. We’ll definitely be back for many more times as we decided to make it our nice restaurant for special occasions. The wait staff was fantastic, thank you very much bill.
The lunch was a wonderful experience.
The ambiance was great, So was the service and so was the food.
A train went by and we all clapped.
It was my birthday and I can think of no other restaurant for the occasion.
It was also enjoyed by me daughter and my grandson.
My husband and I went to Gandy Dancer for our wedding anniversary dinner. It was a perfect evening in every way. We sat right next to the fireplace which was so romantic and cozy. Food was wonderful and service was great. Perfect evening in every way! We’ll be back for sure!! Thank you!
Always really like this restaurant. Would be 5 stars but we waited an hour after our salad for our main course . Two members of our party are diabetic and had taken their insulin anticipating a shorter time for main dish. They had extra bread but not what they wanted to happen .
Hope this is an unusual kitchen blip.
We came here for dinner and the experience was very disappointing. The area we sat in was cold and you could hear the staff in the kitchen talking and joking loudly the whole time. Everything on my plate was cold when it arrived. I had to walk up to 2 different waiters in order to get my waiter. My son ordered potato encrusted whitefish and it basically looked like they just mixed together leftover hash-browns and bacon and threw it on top 2 pieces of fish. They re-made my order but at that point we were ready to leave. The manager did comp my entree and offered to wrap it up to go. I took it but did not end up eating it. Overall the waiter and manager did not seem very apologetic. In my opinion the food just looked reheated, not freshly made to order. We won't be back again.
We had dinner on New Year's eve. It was a great dining experience. I feel they need to install a door to contain the vestibule. The front dining room was freezing to even walk through. People were eating with their coats on. I think closing off the entrance is an easy fix to this problem.
Our table for two was situated in a cold, drafty corridor with wait staff constantly passing by for the entire 2+hour fiasco. My filet was too dry. The lobster tail was rubbery. The Caesar salad was served without an offering of fresh cheese or ground pepper. VERY DISAPPOINTING!
I first heard about Gandy Dancer as a student at University of Michigan, but unfortuntely never had enough extra spending money to justify it, as it is quite expensive, but is hailed as one of the best restaurants in Ann Arbor. I was glad to finally have an occasion, someone special, and the ability to go. I had one of the best meals I've had! As much as I could probably have enjoyed filling up on the Almond Encrusted Brie appetizer alone, I'm glad I saved room for some of their seared scallops and pecan encrusted whitefish.
The architecture of the building is amazing, and it was perfect to take a date after we had talked about wanting to find somewhere we could get dressed up to go to.
It was New Years Eve and it was very busy. However, I made reservations 3 months ahead of the holiday so that we would get a decent table. Instead we were sat right next to the door and froze through the entire meal. There were no other tables available to move us to, which made the entire experience extremely uncomfortable. The food was great though.
Food and service were excellent. I absolutely love the menu. Amazing steak. The only complaint is the horrendous parking situation. Basically there is none. They have "complementary" valet, but of course you are pressured to tip rather than be able to park your own car.
I ordered halibut and my husband ordered shrimp pasta and in both cases the seafood was overdone and dry. We were sat by the door and it was freezing. I had to wear my jacket the entire time despite having made reservations weeks in advance and asking to sit in the area by the train. It was overpriced and definitely nothing special. I highly doubt we would ever go back.
We celebrated our one-year New Year’s Eve wedding anniversary with brunch at the Gandy Dancer. It was absolutely perfect and we plan to make it a tradition! The brunch was bountiful - options for everyone! The band playing in the main dining room added the perfect touch. Our server was phenomenal, as was the food. I have to make special mention of the Bloody Mary - holy smokes that was good... The best I’ve had in years, in fact. I wish that I’d saved room for dessert - there were lots of choices that all looked incredible... Next time, for sure! We’ll be back, and often!
