Recommended as a great place to have dinner and watch trains. Since I've moved to Ypsilanti from California living close to regular train routes I thought it would be nice to see a few trains pass while having a nice meal. Window area did not have decorations to embrace train station life, its in restaurant interior. The waitress was very polite and attentive to my food allergy to dairy and made sure my meal was acceptable. The cucumber honey drink was cute and refreshing, Prime Rib meal was very good, dessert list was not appealing I passed. If you are looking for a place to have quiet meal and conversation this place is ideal. Pricey, but I love white linen tablecloths without glass tops and paper place mats. Train did not arrive during meal, but I saw it heading to the station as we were driving home.
We ate in the alcove area and it was wonderful, great service and atmosphere!! I had coconut shrimp and was disappointed that it seemed over done and lacked a coconut taste. My wife had salmon and said it was the best she has ever had !! Your place is our favorite restaurant and we have been coming there for many years. Bill was our server and was excellent
Loved our service and food
have never been let down at this eatery. Staff is always top shelf as well as the food.
An Ann Arbor tradition. Great seafood, I always order seafood there, but their steaks looked great also. Nice atmosphere, it used to be a train station, and if timed right a train will go by for a thrill. The service was excellent even though there was a good sized crowd, on a Friday evening. Fun place to go to impress someone but also a great place for a casual diner. Highly recommend.
The food was very good as usual. The atmosphere is very nice and the staff were very busy. The rooms are very unique and provide a great place to dine. Make sure to take advantage of the valet it is hard to park in Ann arbor
Wonderful food including gluten free options. Prompt, efficient service. Beautiful building.
The Gandy Dancer is one of our "go-to" places for celebrations. We were not disappointed. The food was great, especially the lobster bisque and the mango ice. I regret that I can't recall our waiter's name. He was stellar.
PS. We especially enjoyed the new and very comfortable chairs throughout the Gandy Dancer. The Ladies' Room on the side near to the fireplace was absolutely amazing. What a change from the previous lavatory--great job, Gandy Dancer!
Always a great place to eat for any occasion! I've eaten here many times over the years and it is always a delicious experience.
The service, as well as the food, was great. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu items, and she made suggestions, which we took.
We dined on a weekday evening, and the restaurant was not busy.
We'll definitely return again soon.
Our dinner at the Gandy Dancer was lovely. We enjoyed excellent and attentive service. Our food was perfectly prepared and delicious. We enjoyed watching people walking their dogs to the dog park within view of our windows. We could see Ann Arbor and lovely green areas. I recommend the Gandy Dancer highly. It met all my expectations and then some.
We absolutely love this location! Staff is always amazing from the valet to server, all perfect.
We even experienced the train arriving! We would frequent this restaurant when we were just dating and after being married for 42 years later we still think it is one of our favorites! Thank you for another wonderful experience,
and fun afternoon date!
Meat was cold and by the time they warmed it, it went from rare to medium. Potatoes very salty. Disappointed
We have loved Gandy Dancer in the past but never visited on a Sunday for their Brunch. We made reservations for 1:30 and were told that the buffet would be refreshed throughout the service (2:30) according to our waiter. The food was cold, rubbery and scarce. The shining star of the buffet was the waffles ...which were made to order and the only decent food we had that day. We will be skipping Gandy Dancer on our next trip to the area.
Everything was great except seating. We were packed in so tight, half the table had to get up and move to allow someone to go to the buffet. Our chairs were touching the people behind us. It was very uncomfortable and inconvenient and took away from our dining experience. I will certainly not recommend this place for a party of bigger than 4 people. I'll never spend $400 to be that uncomfortable again. I will say, our food was great, and our waiter was exceptional.
As usual we had a great experience at the Gandy Dancer. Drinks are always mixed well and the selection is second to none. Food had great flavor and everything was seasoned well. Overall a great experience.
The service was very good across the board Steve our Waiter was awesome and everyone was so friendly and happy to be there. The Filet and Lobster was very good and the Crab Cakes also very good. I would recommend this restaurant experience to everyone.
Outstanding food and service. The Chef kindly and readily changed some specifics of the preparation of my Chilean sea bass and it was out of this world good.
Atmosphere is unique; food was good but not outstanding. Nice specialty cocktail menu. Very accommodating of small child which was a plus. Thank you.
the service is exceptional! The crab cakes were so good we purchased extra, just so we would have some to take home.
Love this place!! ...more crab cakes please!.. oh ya and dessert is divine!
We had lunch for National Crabmeat Day and really enjoyed the $5.00 crab cakes. They were just as delicious as they usually are - no skimping at all. Our server was excellent.
We've been going to The Gandy Dancer for the last 45 years. Whenever we have a taste for great seafood, or a birthday or anniversary, this is one of our first choices. The railroad station turned restaurant has an interesting and historical decor. Food and service are always great. We've never been disappointed.
We returned to the Gandy Dancer after a long absence (due to living 120 miles away) and were delighted as we had been previously. Food was excellent as was service.
Great dinner. I'd recommend this location to everyone. If you are visiting Ann Arbor
for the 1st time this is a must visit.
Our first experience at the Gandy Dancer was in 1989 when we moved from Ny to A2.
Has been my favorite restaurant ever since!
We recently celebrated my Birthday and my sons Nicholas’s this past Sunday.
We had a wonderful family experience. Thankyou to our excellent server.
Seafood cooked to perfection! Which is a must for good seafood.
Thank you for a wonderful time.
Brunch. Nice selection, jazz music. Made to order omelette. Eggs Benedict need more Hollandaise sauce. Need chilled plates for salads and seafood. Excellent service. Always a special place
Great food and service. Haven't been there in a while, it was awesome.
My family and I came to celebrate two birthdays, but the food was not presented well and the filets were not cooked to our satisfaction. Even though one meal was taken off, it was a very disappointing dinner.
Occasion was for my birthday. The waiter and staff were very energetic and made the occasion special.
Amazing food and Jay, our server, was great!
Steve was fantastic! We were celebrating my son’s acceptance to The University of Michigan AND my victory in winning the first prize in a tough challenge! Had an excellent meal to celebrate both occasions!
We had a lovely birthday celebration here with another family. The wait staff was attentive and all of our needs were met promptly. The food was outstanding and my husband got a personalized menu and Creme Brulee to celebrate on the house! I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to any who are looking for a special occasion meal!
My wife and I love going to the Gandy Dancer for special occasions and fancy date nights. The food is always phenomenal and the service is excellent. Nothing but good things to say about this classy establishment, I would highly recommend it to anyone and yes it is worth the price!
I have been to the Gandy Dancer for special occasion dinners for almost all of my adult life and I am 63 years old. Having grown up in Ann Arbor and being a townie, the Gandy Dancer was a destination place that always will be very special to me. The original train station that is the location is nicely incorporated into the decor and ambience of the dining rooms. This charming effect of oldfashioned history and contemporary fined dining is incredibly unique. Plus, it’s always exciting when a train comes by, it is exhilirating. The desserts are outstanding as well. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for a delicious lunch! My husband had a happy birthday!
There is quite a lot of emphasis, both when making the reservation and upon arrival at the restaurant, that this was a special occasion--a birthday. However, that info was not passed to the server, who did nothing to make it a special occasion. What was the big deal? If there is nothing special at the table, then it's just an everyday event--and they placed us in a hallway and not in the primary seating area w/windows (could it be because we were 2 women with no man present?). Would not recommend this for a special event; more like a business meeting.
Everything as amazing, including the pleasant jazz group that played. The server , Josh, was wonderful and the food choices fantastic
This was my second time here and it was just as enjoyable as the first. I really like the ambiance of the restaurant. The food is good, but the drinks could be stronger for what you pay.
The food was absolutely fabulous. The ambiance was a bit pretentious. The restaurant was fine for a special occasion, but would not be my choice for regular dining.
