Gandy Dancer Ratings and Reviews
The service was wonderful, our server Dave made wonderful recommendations. He even convinced me to change my choice of my favorite to something else. His choice was perfect! I was very happy to see my friend Mark, the executive chef. He came out and said hello. I plan to go back very soon.
It seems there are too many tables near the aisles so it seems crowded ---but I guess you need to maximize the number of people .The people next to the aisles must tire of so many walking past them . I really like the atmosphere but will probably not go again . The food and service were excellent .
It was a awsome evening. Everyone's dinner was very good The only one thing was at the beginning the waitress did not tell us she was preparing my husbands cherry smoked martini so we completely missed it. We realized it when our friend said I smell smoked smell I go darn I didn't realize she was making it so alittle disappointed. My husband said it was very good But all and all we defiantly will be back to enjoy your wonderful reasturant
My family arrived from out of town and we had such a wonderful experience at Gandy Dancer. The waiter was wonderful and they even asked for our valet tickets while we were paying so that the car can be pulled around before we got to the door to leave. A delightful experience.
I was unimpressed by our recent meal. Though the restaurant was nearly empty our service was slow and spotty. The food was not well cooked but presented nicely. Medium-rare steaks were served raw, e.g., we ran out of butter and our water glasses were not promptly refilled. And of course the bill was $300 for 4 people. Tough to swallow for a mediocre meal!
Went here with my parents during parent's weekend and the food was amazing. I had the prime rib and it was super tender and juicy. Everyone really enjoyed their meals and we will definitely be back. We liked it so much that we made a reservation with them for graduation weekend. My only complaint would be that the service was a little bit slow. Not so much so that it would deter me from returning.
Gandy Dancer is frequently rated the best brunch in town, however it fails to meet that title. While the selection was impressive, the quality for most of the dishes was down right unappetizing. The worst: sausages were rubbery, the eggs were dry, the eggs benedict was not good at all. It wasn't a complete disaster as the cocktails were lovely, and my two favorites were the mac & cheese, and tater tots from the kids station. The server was very attentive, and the complimentary valet was nice because it was raining (even if the valet was parking in the public free spaces across the street so we had no choice to use them even if we didn't want to). Overall, for the price there are plenty of other options with an equally expansive selection, and certainly choices for better quality of food in the Ann Arbor brunch scene are abundant.
We frequent the Gandy Dancer as it is near our home. Everyone was to perfection, especially the wait staff/service. The only downer was the valet. For this classy joint, the valets looked like they were working a basketball game and not really all that gun-ho to give good service. No one opened my door for me as has always happened in the past (I like a bit of old-fashioned) & when we left, our car was sitting these (a good thing) running with no one watching it. The valets were inside --warming up (I don't know what they'll do when it gets cold...). That was my only disappointment........
It's a beautiful venue that we found warm and inviting. It was lively, but you could still comfortably carry on a conversation. The waitstaff was attentive without being intrusive. The food was delicious, especially the sea bass. Two of our three entrees came out luke warm. We sent them back to be reheated, but only one of the two came back remedied. The special smoked bourbon cocktail was interesting, but not enough alcohol to make it worth $20. Overall a nice place for a college town. We'll be back.
The old train station in Ann Arbor is a great backdrop for a dinner and service beyond compare. The waitstaff was professional and very knowledgeable with recommendations on food and wine, service was prompt, the atmosphere was light and lively. A wonderful evening.
The restaurant is beautiful. The food was excellent--we were a party of 5 and had several of the seafood dishes, each one different, each one delicious. The rice with ginger was different and very good.
We were in the "farthest back" room and hoped it would be quiet, but there was a very large table with a family group there, and they were SO loud. It sort-of ruined the first part of our meal experience because we couldn't even talk across our round table and hear each other. Luckily they were on their dessert course, so the second half of our meal was quieter.
Our waiter seemed a bit arrogant, and put-out that we didn't order cocktails and that we were fine with tap water vs. bottled. None of us said anything but each of us mentioned it independent of the others afterward, so it must've been "a thing".
Still, despite those two issues, this was a lovely meal in a lovely setting. I recommend the Gandy Dancer for special occasion dining.
Excellent service and delicious meals sitting close to the fire place on a cool fall evening. Excellent scallops, salmon and fabulous appetizers. The basket of home made breads were a treat and dark chocolate after dinner mints were amazing! Our waiter Michael was terrific and the valet was prompt and courteous
Great ambience but a little difficult to talk as it was noisy. A lot of food choices and the food was nicely presented and delicious. Our server was excellent. The entire staff was very friendly, including the valet that helped us cross the busy street after my husband dropped us off across the street. We will return.
Good overall, but perhaps resting a bit on its laurels? Wine list meh, at best. Food good but not great, especially the vegetable accompaniments which felt "stock," and not very creative. Fish portions just too small for the $$$. Portions should be 25-33% larger at this price point. That would bring them into a solid, yet still not oversized, zone. Whitefish is not crazy expensive wholesale, yet the portion seemed to reflect that is is. Coming from NY, I'm willing to pay for great food, but at NY prices this just does not make the cut. It could, though, with attention to above-noted issues, imho. I'd still go back, but mainly for overall experience of setting/passing trains/great service than for a rock-my-world pricey meal.
