Ordered the wagyu beef ribeye and was totally disappointed. I could have gotten the same quality of steak at a chain dinner.
Great food and great service
Wonderful food & services
Love it! Must go! The food was awesome I went for brunch with a group of friends.
Everything was fantastic, brought our daughter and son in law, their first visit, absolutely loved it.
Definitely recommend Gandy Dancer.
Great food and service with an excellent atmosphere.
Our, Waitperson, Rodney, was one of the most professional, courteous Waiters I have ever encountered.
Service - impeccable!
Not as good as I remember it was. Food was just ok.
Lunch this week was better than our previous very unpleasant dinners at the Gandy Dancer. The wait sstaff is consistently rude and haughty. We have written the manager with our concerns in the past and have gotten no response. It is a lovely building, I just wish the service and management were much improved.
What a find! I've eaten at Gandy Dancer before but it's been at least 10 years. I decided to take my husband for his birthday. It was a pleasant ride from our Farmington Hills home and so worth the drive. Our wait person was very informative about the menu items and very helpful. My husband had the shrimp scampi and from the look and the way he devoured it, it must have been good. I had the walleye and it was fantastic. We eat out a lot and we will definitely be adding this place to our roster of choices.
Very nice place and great food.
Waitress was great too!
We alighted from the train and walked into the restaurant for a delightful dinner.
This was another traditional celebration for a birthday and wedding anniversary. We keep coming back with expectations of an elegant setting, soft jazz in the background, a delectable buffet presentation, and, of course, ringside seat view of the passing train. Well, the expectations were exceeded; the deserts put brunch over the top. We plan to return for some more traditions.
I live this place for Sunday brunch. Very nice selection of foods. The old train station is beautiful
This is a must try restaurants. The waiter was one of the best and most knowledgeable about the menu and drink menu I've seen in a long time. All of the food was excellent. Staff was very attentive and friendly. BEYOND EXCELLENT!!
Great time! Thank you. Would recommend to my friends and family.
I was there for my friends birthday dinner this past Saturday and our waiter was terrible. He was non existent, took forever to get our drink order. Never came and checked on us during the dinner portion. My friends drink went empty and we had to ask another server to get another drink. And he was not very personable at all. I work in the service industry and I get that we all have bad days but the service he provided us was terrible and he didnt appear to be busy.
Great service, atmosphere and good.
We came here to celebrate a special occasion. We were one of a handful of tables seated when the restaurant opened. The ambiance is excellent, as always, though we didn’t see a train pass by this time.
Our server was pleasant but you could tell he was checked out and kind of faking it. It took over 30 minutes for our oysters to come out, and then almost 40 minutes for our entrees. Our server checked in on us maybe once or twice during that whole time so water glasses sat empty for a long time. I’m not sure if the delay was from the server or the kitchen, but it shouldn’t have taken 2 hours since we ordered promptly and were one of the first in the restaurant for the day.
The food was very good, though small details seemed flawed. I ordered the scallops, which came with a pea purée on the bottom. The plate had been sitting on the window for so long part of the pea purée had been cooked to the plate, leaving a hard crusty ring of nasty. That was very unappetizing, but i was so hungry after having to wait so long that i did not send it back. The desserts we ordered were spectacular, as usual. Overall the food is very good and I think comes at a reasonable price for the quality, minus the few flaws.
We will continue to celebrate special occasions here but do hope to see a little more communication and attention to detail at our next visit.
I was there celebrating my 70th birthday. It was a wonderful experience for myself and my family .Thanks for making it extra special with the birthday creme brulee and the personalized menu!!!!
The Gandy Dancer used to be special, the place you'd take out-of-town visitors. It's still OK, and the ambience is as nice as ever. But it's overpriced and the food is just okay, which is disappointing given the once-stellar reputation of the place. The service is also okay.
Would I recommend? I answered "no," because I would tell someone who asked that there are places with much more special food (Pacific Rim comes to mind). However, if the person was mainly interested in historic atmosphere and didn't have the most discriminating palate and wasn't concerned much about value-for-money, I could recommend the Gandy Dancer.
I hope the restaurant will take steps (new chef? better training?) to make this place special again.
We ate at the Gandy dancer 42 years ago for our second wedding anniversary when we lived in Ann Arbor. We now live out of state and wanted to see if the restaurant could still live up to our positive memories of it. It did in all respects. Our waiter, Chad, was wonderful and the food was superb. Two thumbs up on the blueberry bread pudding. It is so worth the calories!
Had a great time! The cuisine, ambiance and service were superb! Even got to enjoy the ringing of the bell when 2 trains went by.
Celebrating a birthday, the Gandy Dancer did not offer anything for the occasion except a rolled up paper copy of their menu with a pink bow...really?? Other Ann Arbor restaurants will discount your meal for the occasion or offer a small dessert. In lieu of their high prices, they could have done better than that. Staff were pleasant and service was ok. Oh, they did light a candle on the cake that we ordered (and paid for) from their menu. Would not recommend if you're celebrating a special occasion.
Always great food for a girls night out!
It was our 53 wedding anniversary, and our daughter ordered by phone a dessert for us, and we never got it. Our water glasses were not refilled. I asked if the coconut shrimp came with a sauce, and our waiter said it did not and it did, and I preferred it without.
Going to Gandy Dancy was an awesome experience!! My friend and I took our 9 year old grandsons to lunch and then to a movie to see Lion King !!
The food was delicious from the warm bread, appetizers , down to our entrees!
We will definitely be back with a few more people to share the experience !!
We received wonderful service from Renee. We had two little ones with us as guests. They were well accommodated and so were we! We enjoyed the fast menu selections. Thank you for being unique. The Hartwigs
Great time at the Gandy Dancer. Hadn't been in a few years, but it's still a "go to" spot. Several different seating areas. Comfortable for casual dinner or celebratory meal out. Attentive service and great food. Was not disappointed--the train did come by! Finished the night with a "hummer." You can't get that yummy ice cream drink everywhere!
Having attended the University of Michigan, we have had the pleasure of dining at the Gandy Dancer many times throughout the years. This last visit was very disappointing. I ordered the wild salmon. It was so over done that it was inedible. The accompanying pyramid of rice was flavorless and everyone’s broccoli was so undercooked that it may as well have raw. My diner mates also complained about the quality of their main courses. I was offered a substitute entree but I had lost my appetite by then. Must say that the hors d’ oeuvres were very good as was our waiter.
It was a fantastic experience! My family and I were celebrating my Son’s birthday and the ambience was perfect. Jessica along with the other wait staff were phenomenal.
The food was excellent!
We were a party of three who attended Sunday brunch, arriving at 11am with an appointment. We were seated promptly and told about the items and their locations on the extensive buffet. Among the three of us, we sampled most of the main dishes and desserts. Most were very good, but not outstanding. there was a bountiful variety to suit every palate, including breakfast staples. The buffet area was a bit crowded, and there was only one place to obtain plates, necessitating some time in line at most stations. Examples: Prime rib was tender but not juicy even though I had it rare. Turkey, which was smoked in-house, was excellent. The three salmon dishes were good but overcooked- hard to avoid that on a buffet. Shrimp etouffee had no shrimp we could find and was rather bland for this dish. There was no omelet station, but one could order omelets to be prepared to order. The melon on the fruit table was underripe. Cheese was ordinary. There was a good selection of desserts, of which the cheese blintzes were probably the best, although I was disappointed with the lack of fresh berries that are in season at this time of year. There was a cooked strawberry compote for the Belgian waffles or blintzes. Coffee, tea and iced tea are included, but other beverages are extra. Service was attentive and outstanding. Unfortunately, I am comparing this to my experiences at the Hacienda del Sol in Tucson that has a truly remarkable Sunday buffet!
Loved almost every bite, I was a little disappointed in the prime rib but everything else was divine!
I would recommend it for brunch; I don't like their dinners as well
Great food, good service, excellent views from your table. This is a great place for a fancy celebratory meal. Many people will be dressed up here, but you wouldn’t feel too out of place in pants and a t-shirt.
The ambiance of the Gandy Dancer is the best in town - the location away from downtown hustle and bustle in an old railroad station by the river along a brick paved road. Complimentary valet parking and authentic interior further enhances the comfort and elegance. The service and food are good, but don't quite match the ambiance. Plates are cleared fairly quickly, but linger longer than at top notch restaurants. Special requests for simple pasta/butter were first greeted with "I have to check with the chef" before being accommodated. A special cake brought in and handed to the hostess somehow didn't make it's way to the server, who was then caught off guard when it came time for dessert. However, prices are reasonable so the compromise seems to be about right. It's been in business a long time and was pleasantly crowded and buzzing during our visit. We will keep it on our rotation when the occasion is right
From the valet, Host that accommodated our wheelchair need, our fabulous server Jessica, wonderful meal and graduation celebration---Our first visit to Gandy Dancer won't be our last.
We had an exceptionally nice dining experience! It was top
Notch from the valet service to the menu variety to the staff care and including the delicious food!
A lovely birthday lunch at a wonderful, classic Ann Arbor restaurant. High quality food, service and ambience have remained superb, highly recommend.
The Gander Dancer never disappoints. Their Mixology drinks are delightful and the meals are delicious. My only criticism is that I felt that the young gentleman at the entry podium who seats guests was bit snooty. Rather than greeting us, he waited for us to greet him. I much prefer a warm welcome when I'm coming into a restaurant.
