We had a wonderful dinner at Gandy Dancer, celebrating my boyfriend's birthday. From the custom menu with a birthday message on the top to the phenomenal meals we both had (filet mignon with lobster tail and the mahi mahi), every last detail was perfect. We will definitely be going back for another lovely dinner! Thank you Gandy Dancer for an incredible evening!
We were so happy with our night out. The private alcove table was exactly what we needed for our romantic evening. The food was phenomenal. Service fantastic. Our drink at the bar before was terrific. We were very happy. Thanks so much for adding something special to our time together.
We were celebrating the sale of our family Centennial Farm and chose to celebrate at Gandy Dancer. I had not been there in 15-20 years but remembered the times I was there with my late husband and how we really enjoyed the atmosphere, the service and especially the food. I was not disappointed on this occasion either. I will definitely make more of an effort to go there in there future.
Gandy Dancer was absolutely incredible from the moment we walked in. The Dancer utilized the historic setting of the old train station to make a perfect ambiance and internal design. The food was incredible and I loved the wide variety of drinks available. I am not too big of a seafood person, but I was blown away by their fish! The Gandy Dancer truly cares about their food and it shows! Would highly recommend!
Fantastic service and food. We come here every year for our anniversary. Always great!
We love the ambience of the Gandy Dancer. It is a great restaurant for Seafood lovers. Two in my party had wonderful meals. The vegetarian option was smoked and there was one chicken option. There are steaks as well
Server didn’t acknowledge our special event nor did she fulfill the request for separate checks as requested on the reservation.
One dinner not prepared as requested.
Server also failed to bring items as requested.
Had the pecan crusted white fish and loved it.
GM Charollette was amazing and stopped to chat, our server Bill made sure we had a great 'girls night out'! Exceptional service and attention to detail
Can't beat the view. The food in my opinion is not memorable, but certainly passable.
I believe that other restaurants in town beat them with food quality and price.
Our first time and it was a good one. Valet at the door was perfect due to the massive rainstorm. Food and service was outstanding. Loved the history of the place.
For all its fame, the Gandy Dancer tends to be uneven. This time it was mediiocre. The ambience is nice and the service was good, but for the price the food was disappointing. Not bad, but for $30, the two crab cakes and 2 spears of asparagus were nothing special. (Had gone to Pacific Rim the night before, both being birthday celebrations, and that was like the major leagues and Gandy Dancer was like AAA Minor Leagues.) I would go back, probably for a light lunch, to enjoy the ambience, but I would look elsewhere for reallly special food.
The Gandy Dancer had great food and nice view. The shrimp artichoke fettuccine was awesome, great key lime pie.
Excellent service! I always like the ambiance of the restaurant. It was very pleasant to dining there. The only compliant was the coffee temperature only lukewarm. I wonder how long the coffee had sat around.
My wife and I hadn't eaten here for years. Previously I think we had come for a Mother's Day buffet or something which we remember as so-so. But last night, we were pleasantly surprised by the excellent food and we had a great time. Older couples next to us were especially friendly. The waiter was perhaps a little awkward but he did a great job with explanations and service.
It was the best dinner I have had in a long time. I enjoyed everything. Would for sure go back again. Just loved it.
Food was excellent. I had the cedar plank salmon and my wife had the snapper. Best cosmo my wife has ever had. All the staff was very friendly and attentive. I have already recommended Gandy Dancer to a friend.
Cool place atmosphere. I was there for an early dinner, mid-week. The crowd was light, so the meal was quiet, peaceful and romantic. My tuna appetizer was amazing. My shrimp entree was delicious. The dessert key lime dessert was appropriately good. The room was very charming and I loved being able to see a dog park a ways off in the distance!
I visited the restaurant out of a sense of nostalgia. It is a pretty place, with good service. The food, alas, was fair to middling. The fish was unremarkable in flavor and preparation (it is the Midwest, but there are good fish restaurants in the Midwest), as were the side dishes. Once every 38 years is plenty.
Birthday dinner with my closest friend. The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful. The menu is still creative and the food is delicious.
Go there for a special occasion and you won't be disappointed.
This used to be our go to restaurant for fine dining. We celebrated my mother's 70th and 80th birthdays with over 15 people from all over the US here. But the quality of the food had slipped by 1999 and we went elsewhere in Ann Arbor for her 90th and 95th birthdays. We returned recently because we were sending our daughter back to Chicago to catch a plane to London, England and decided to try the place out again. The food was OK, the service was OK, the ambiance was great as was the noise level. I was still unimpressed. I won't suggest another place to go instead. That would be unkind. However, there are a couple of places that have been in business for a long, long time that serve better food at around the same price point. I will leave it at that.
I was brought in for a birthday dinner and it was absolutely wonderful. I will say I was a little disappointed that some fellow patrons couldn't snaze up their attire a little bit but I get that you can't turn away paying customers. This was my first time here. I would love to go back. The food and staff were fabulous! Highly recommend.
Our server, Brandon was excellent. We had arrived during Sunday Brunch expecting lunch and thankfully, he knew AND SHARED all of the deliciousness being offered at the buffet. We stayed and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Excellent food and service. We really enjoyed the setting and the atmosphere. We tried a variety of dishes and found them all to be superb. We hope to return soon.
This is a fun place to dine. Everyone applauds when the trains go by. The service was excellent - timely,
and accurate. The waiter even split a salad for us, even though he said it usually wasn't done. We all liked the menu; the whitefish (two different ways - grilled and pecan crusted), the grilled mahi mahi and the lobster tail were all cooked to perfection and very tasty. The only disappointment was that they no longer serve whole lobsters. I would recommend The Gandy Dancer - great for celebrations and any day although a just little bit pricey but not overly expensive.
We celebrated my son’s birthday.
Our tradition is to have lobster on his birthday.
The chef special ordered 4 Maine lobsters for our special occasion. Bill, our waiter, was fantastic. He served with a special touch and even cracked our lobsters for us.
We never felt rushed or hurried. I highly recommend Gandy Dancer in Ann Arbor, MI.
The food was exquisite in an ambient setting.
Pre concert (at The Michigan Theater) dinner. We were early enough I took advantage of the Prix Fixe menu, appetizer, entree and dessert. Husband had the Filet Mignon. Renee our waitress was attentive and recommended a wonderful cocktail (cucumber peppered martini). So refreshing.
I had the lemon chicken with artichoke and smashed potatoes. My appetizer was a delicious and generous cub of Gazpacho. I also had a Sanders hot fudge sundae.
A slight up charge for sundae or cheese cake on the fixed price menu.
My husband enjoyed a piece of New York style cheesecake for his dessert. All was so nice, service from Renee was wonderful. We will be back. Thank you.
Food was absolutely incredible, and all of the seafood we got was extremely fresh. The servers were attentive and made good suggestions for us. Definitely will go back in the future!
Memorable experience from the time we entered the door. Wait staff was knowledgeable, professional and trained to make you comfortable. Their arrival at our table each time was perfectly timed. Food was excellent - best whitefish I have had in many years prepared just the way I had requested. They have a way of elevating your special event like birthdays or anniversaries to a level you will always remember.
Excellent service, creative, well prepared dishes.
Special evening with dear family friends-
Brunch was a fantastic experience! We were sat immediately, greeted at our table by our waitress, and were very well taken care of the entire time. The food was fresh, reliable and satisfying. Nothing terribly innovative or outstanding. Kids were happy and no one left feeling disappointed, everyone had their favorite dish. Would definitely consider again.
The brunch was fantastic. A superb selection of great food!! We will definitely be back! Chad, our server, was incredible!!
Our waiter tried so hard to take care of us. He was very kind and made our dinner enjoyable. But my soup was served "warm" - it was ok, but I expected more from the Gandy Dancer. Then our dinner were served barely warm I had to send mine back. We saw a different waiter walk by our table with what appeared to be our dinners. He was confused and took the dinners back to the kitchen. A few minutes later our waiter arrived with the same dinners, not knowing they had been carried around the dining room once already. He was very upset that this happened. So...I still really enjoy this restaurant and will come back. I just would have expected better coordination among the staff.
Started out fantastic but lost our waiter toward the end of the meal. Took a very long time to get the bill and actually checkout completely. One member of party had to go retrieve the car due to extra 20 minute wait to checkout.
As always the charm & ambience is superb. I was somewhat disappointed with the food quality & service. I felt we were rushed a bit (was not crowded) through dinner & had to ask for butter, extra plate when 2 of us split a salad/dessert. My husband had the seafood platter (salmon, crab cakes, shrimp) & said it was just okay. I expected the filet to be top-notch....and it was good but not memorable. We have eaten here many times & were very happy with everything....but not rushing to go back. Too many other choices in that price range.
Great food in a quaint setting. Good for celebrations or just a fun dinner with friends.
I have frequented this restaurant many times over many years. You cannot beat the ambiance of building. My latest visit proved to be just as delicious as I had anticipated. Our server was knowledgeable, attentive, and diplomatic.
