We met friends for dinner and had a great experience. Service was great from start to finish. A good variety on menu for each course. The food was fresh and we enjoyed it.
The location is historic and very interesting. The food is good. The service was stuck in the same time as the building. My daughter is a vegan and when she asked if there were any options that she could choose from, our server very curtly said no and that they could only accommodate vegetarians. He informed her that she could have a salad and/or the vegetable pasta or the asparagus (the latter two she could not because the pasta had egg in it and the asparagus that was served had butter in it.) When my daughter asked if there were potatoes, the server did say that they had fries and so she settled on a salad with fries. The server's response felt very demeaning leaving my daughter feeling badly and coloring the rest of the meal for us.
Suggesting the pasta and not knowing that the asparagus was made with butter was further proof that the server was uninformed and untrained in what being a vegan means. I hope that the servers are more informed for people with a gluten intolerance and that they don't suggest something that causes major issues for another customer with a medical problem.
In 2021, all restaurants that are noteworthy and highly rated/regarded have options for everyone. Gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, paleo, etc. The server did not even go to the kitchen to see what could be prepared. Every restaurant that I have been to with my daughter in the last year and a half since she made this choice has always been accommodating. Either there were several options available, or the kitchen modified a dish. It's time to bring the kitchen into the 21st century or risk going the way of locomotive travel.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the old train station. Trains went pass twice. Service was very attentive. Food was really tasty. We would definitely go back.
Service and ambiance were first rate . Food was very good too. They paid nice attention to detail
an made our Anniversary experience very enjoyable !
Food was fresh and tasty. We enjoyed the historical settings and great service. More expensive than other restaurants with similar menu but the quality made it worthy. Good for celebrations with friends and family.
Our go to when visiting our students in AA. Had stuffed Salmon this time around so delicious and steaks also cooked perfectly. The train station has been lovingly preserved. We love sitting in the fire place room when It gets a bit chillier out, so cozy!!
Not like it used to be. Food mediocre. Caesar salad tasteless. Mashed potatoes cold and pasty. Fish blah. Service from waitress attentive but bar and kitchen let her down. Drink order, long wait, water, long wait, food order, long wait, drinks came, long wait, bread came, long wait, food came. Couldn't wait to go home. Been there 100 times before pandemic. Sad for one of my former favorites.
Fantastic!! Had a great dinner and service was excellent despite our server having a lot of tables.
The Gandy Dancer never disappoints. We celebrated a birthday and the food and service were excellent.
We had an amazing dinner ... they honored our request for a quiet table and everything thereafter was superb. Very enjoyable dinner and we would love to return.
Sunday dinner with our family at the Gandy Dancer was delicious! It was a great meal with a cool ambiance. Will definitely return!
Delicious food. Service could be a bit quicker. Elegant settings.
Great service and delicious food. The staff at Gandy Dancer ensures that their customers receive a great dining experience.
Amazing food and staff!! We really enjoyed ourselves. Even the guest were nice.
Always have great food here. Along with attentive waitstaff it’s a favorite place for dinner.
Very nice atmosphere, great service, and delicious food. A truly great dining experience.
Have been there several times, but this was the poorest level of service I have ever had. Ten minutes waiting to be seated, even though we had reservations for 2, and others just coming in the door with no reservations being seated ahead of us!
Main meal served shortly after salads arrived, and plates removed to make room for the main courses. Lobster served without drawn butter. No check back with us during the meal, so no drink re-order and no additional rolls.
I know it is tough finding help, but this was way below Gandy Dancer standards (unless those are now changed)
Excessively expensive. Ordered Coconut Shrimp that was over cooked and lacked sufficient sauce to accompany the shrimp. After many many years of enjoying Gandy Dancer, will not be returning for a long while.
We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Our main courses were very good. However, I had the ceasar salad that was very dry since it had very little dressing. I asked for additional dressing, but it never came.
As a gift, Gandy gave us a complimentary dessert which I thought was classy.
It’s a fine place for dinner and drinks. Limited menu, featuring several seafood dishes. Only issue is ambience. Carpet, tables, even track alongside restaurant are well worn. Time for a refresher.
The valet and the hostess were wonderful, and Jeremy our server did it a great job. The food was very good.
service was very slow. Although the food was decent, it was not up to par for the prices.
The mussels were VERY fishy and my prime rib was rare although ordered medium rare. Unable to fix since waiter was too busy and didn't come back to table.
Not the same Gandy Dancer that I remembered.
the blackened cod was excellent!
the Cape Cod salad (?) was not very good - grilled chicken on top was tough & the dressing was not very good.
Key lime pie was good!
David was great as our server. Prime rib was outstanding. Creme Brulee was best I've had. A couple other tables were quite noisy... perhaps next time I go I'll make sure it's not game day at Michigan.
Before football game
Continued quality we have always experienced at the Gandy Dancer. Menu more limited than usual, but likely COVID-19 related.
Great food and service in a unique setting. Have maintained a high quality product over many years.
noise level was abnormally high. table next to us +-14 people was quite boisterous. we could not have a conversation at our table.
The Gandy Dancer is a must stop whenever I visit Ann Arbor. It offers a fine dining experience at an extremely reasonable price. We were ravenous when we arrived and were delighted to find that the complimentary bread service came with a smoked salmon pate. We ordered a full spread--cocktails, two appetizers, two entrees and a dessert-- with every single item as fresh and delicious as the last. The servers were attentive and personable and everything seemed to arrive in perfect cadence. This was one of those dining experiences that was still being talked about days later. Absolutely awesome!
We enjoyed our evening here on a busy football weekend in Ann Arbor. The tables were nicely spaced out due to COVID policies. Wait staff was masked appropriately. Food and beverages are perfectly prepared although moderately expensive. It was a perfect evening prior to a great festive football weekend. Shrimp and Parmesan snapper as a special entree was fabulous. Salads were all delicious and generous portions, enough to share.
Our favorite restaurant. We have even used them for a special function. To this day people tell us it was the best.
I have been coming here for 45 years. The Gandy Dancer was excellent the first time I came, and it is still excellent today.
good decor but found the food a bit underwhelming. Steak was a bit over and under seasoned.
Really good service and delicious food!
It was a great atmosphere and the service was incredible. Only thing better was the food.
They even printed “Happy Anniversary” on the menus. It was great
Service and food was great. Would like to see some restrictions on the dress code. Ripped jeans and and gym shorts should not be allowed. Unfortunately we saw a couple of each during our visit.
The menu has changed and the proportions were a bit disappointing. I had the snapper and it was a bit overcooked and the dynamite scallop appetizer and it was not as expected. The scallops were about the size of a nickel. The presentation was very good.
The venue is wonderful, in an old train station. The food is consistently good and the service is impeccable. Strongly recommend
Great food. Service is good as well. Train is near if you are there at the right time.
This restaurant is one of the best restaurant around Umich central campus. The old train station is very classy. You get what you paid for. Great foods, drinks, desserts, and services. Reservation in advance is strongly recommended.
