Probably the best meal we've had in Spokane since we moved here 5 years ago. Perfectly judged tasting menu with well-paired wines, and a good vibe about the place. Highly recommended!

We were excited to try Gander and Ryegrass. When we entered, we were immediately greeted by friendly staff. Servers seemed passionate about the food and were excellent in explaining each dish. Our problem was, the dishes fell short. We came shortly after they opened and the food was just o.k. We chalked it up to start-up jitters so went back this week and were really disappointed. It was restaurant week so we thought it would be pretty special. Octopus tasted burnt and the pork tenderloin was anything but. Could barely cut through it. My wife had the whitefish which was good but everything else on the plate fell short. High expectations but disappointed.

Great atmosphere and staff so I'll try again in a few months to see they raise the bar.

We arrived a little early, so we sat at the bar and had a drink each. I had an Old Fashioned and my wife had a Manhattan. Both incorporated the house made bitters (which were very good). They also had a great selection of both bourbon and rye. Our drinks were excellent! We were soon seated and our server (Justin) was very knowledgeable as well as helpful. It was Restaurant week which is a one week promotion of restaurants in the area each having a set price menu with multiple selections for each course. My wife had a citrus, root vegetable and duck confit salad for her first course, a ragout of lamb and beef and tagliatelle for her second and the smoked steak with potato and carrot for her third course. The duck confit was wonderful (I had a bite, I love duck confit), the beef balanced out the lamb nicely and the smoked steak was perfectly medium rare with a nice smoke flavor. Of special note the potatoes tasted as if they were roasted in beef fat (I should have asked). I had grilled octopus for my first course, the octopus was firm but tender, for my second course I went off menu and had black truffle tortellini (I had never tried truffles, I can see what the hype is about), and white fish with a Marcona almond crust. It was delicious, but I couldn't get over the flavors of the black truffles they were truly my favorite item of the evening! I would highly recommend Gander and Ryegrass!

Very impressed with the restaurant. We ate there during Restaurant Week and the place was fully booked. Our waiter Ben was very knowledgeable about the food and wine that was offered that evening. Service was excellent and not rushed which is one of our metric for a great experience. The team working the restaurant helped each other out so no patron was waiting for service, but the staff wasn't trying to wrestle your plate away from you. The Restaurant Week menu was 3 courses, with an option for a dessert. All the courses were very well presented and very favorable. The experience reminded us of some impeccable meals we had living in Europe. We will definitely be returning to try the full-menu.

I’ve enjoyed this restaurant 4-5 times so far. I dine out a lot. This is quite easily Spokane’s most extraordinary restaurant experience. The food is just superlative — every serving is highly creative, exquisitely tasty, stunningly beautiful with each presentation. The servers deliver consistently first class friendly accommodating service and attention, even recalling exactly what I’ve had in previous visits, and what I loved the most!!! Impressive!!! I’ve enjoyed The French Laundry which is certainly world class — and in all sincerity — Gander & Ryegrass is every bit as rare, memorable, and wonderful. There is a new brilliant renaissance going on in this great city — as Spokane continues to have outstanding restaurants — with many great choices. You cannot be disappointed here.

Chef is innovative. Portions are small but is interesting and fresh, I enjoyed it. The cocktail list was mediocre, however, when talking with the bartender Ben, he made a few seriously good cocktails. I would go back.

From the moment we enters the restaurant we felt like the only patrons in the restaurant. The service from Ben was unbelievable and the food, oh my!!! Every course was something special. The wine pairing was so well identified that it brought out the special taste of each course. I would highly recommend this place to everyone and will.

Amazing place and meal. We enjoyed the valentine's set 8 course meal with featured wine pairing. It was a delightful experience that had my wife and I talking throughout the evening, the car ride home, and late into the night. We look forward to our next meal at Gander and Ryegrass.

Really cool concept- you can either do a meal in three or 12 courses. The kitchen randomly sends out tasting bites throughout the meal. I was particularly impressed with the seafood spaghetti. I’ll definitely be back!

Four of us came in for my birthday and had a wonderful experience. The food was EXTREMELY tasty and fresh. We tried the 3-course option and left satisfied, but not overly stuffed. The kitchen even accommodated my friends’ dietary restriction with class and ease. We will be back!!

We bought the 12 course tasting menu with wine pairing, but were definitely not blown away. Our server seemed rushed and literally did not explain one single course or wine. Another server Ben was more than helpful in explaining two courses he was helping bring out. The wine pairing was spot on with the later dishes, the early dishes were flying at us two dishes at once almost and we did not know if the wine was for the current dish or the next. We will definitely go back, just a 3 course dinner or a single entree in the future.

Very pleasant waiter and nice atmosphere. We had the 3 course dinner, a nice bottle of wine and split the chocolate dessert. The salad with greens and apple was bitter and no apple was in it. The octopus first course was nicely seasoned but a little rubbery. The portion size was very generous. Loved the pasta course tortelloni with mushrooms! A little disappointed with the scallops preparation. My husband had the strip loin and was very satisfied with it. We will try going again, it was their first night back from remodeling closure.

Our party of four enjoyed an amazing meal at Gander and Ryegrass. Chef/owner Peter is making a bold statement in Spokane with his menu format of either a 3-course or a 10-12 course tasting menu, there is no à la carte. There were four options for the first course, five for the pasta course, and two for the main course; we basically ordered everything from the menu between us and were dazzled. The food is exquisite - creatively prepared, beautifully presented. We also enjoyed the prawn amuse-bouche, bread service, and sorbet palate cleanser. The service was fairly attentive although our server did forget our starter oysters. The wine list is approachable, with some interesting and reasonably priced options. The dining room is beautiful and relaxed. If you are looking for serious, creative food, check out Gander and Ryegrass.

Such good food. The sweet breads were delicate and tasty. The pasta is just enough that you don't feel like you're cheating but the flavor suggests that you have done just that, it's rich and lovely. The scallops were cooked to perfection and the cocktails are spot on. I could eat here often. Great place to take your foodie friends. I did.
