Gander an American Grill
We had a wonderful experience with our family at your restaurant. The food and food options were amazing. My husband and I are regular customers and are never disappointed. Mary, our waitress, attended to our every need. Our 1 year old granddaughter was with us and made an incredible mess. Mary reassured us that it wasn’t a problem.
Good was good. I had a salad with salmon & my friend had fried green tomato/bacon /Avacado sandwich. We both enjoyed it.
My wife and I have been here a couple of times and always enjoy the food and service. The blackened fish was very good but might have been just a little larger portion. My wife’s bourbon pork had a great flavor but was a bit over cooked and a little dry. The side salads we ordered were much larger than expected and the Smokey tomato dressing was outstanding. Fresh eggs and tomatoes were just the right touch! I think we could have licked the plates. Overall a solid restaurant and good experience.
The food is very good! No matter what I order I'm always pleased. The atmosphere is more casual more like a very good neighborhood restaurant. It's a great gathering place.
Chicken Florentine, mashed potatoes, green beans, were excellent!
Service was very good, although the server had only been working there a short time.
We had not eaten here for sometime, but it will be on our list of places to go in the future.
Always friendly and all the menu items are well prepared.
Enjoyed a birthday brunch with the whole family. Brunch food was delicious and we especially loved the made to order crepes and eggs Benedict. Service could have been better as our server “forgot” to place an order for an omelette and crepes. Fortunately, there was plenty of food to choose from on the buffet so no one was left without food. The omelette and crepes did come later and were delicious. We will be back!
This was my first time dining at Gander and the quality and selection of food on the buffet was excellent. Our server, whose name I think was Emily, was attentive, courteous and pleasant. We were not hurried and we had a delightful dining experience. We unanimously agreed we will definitely return and, in addition, we plan to recommend Gander's Sunday brunch to our friends.
Great experience! The food and the service were terrific. We had a really nice time. There were so many things on the menu that looked great. I will definitely be back because I need to try all the dishes I did not have the first time!
Our server was new, but very pleasant and efficient. Food selection was excellent; anything from a hearty salad to steak and seafood options. I had a Gander Burger-delicious and we also ordered the Shrimp Scampi. Loaded with large shrimp and fantastic flavor! Wonderful wine selection too. My bill was a bit higher than expected, but worth it. My only issue is when I made our reservation, I had indicated was my mother's birthday and it was not recognized during our visit. Other than this, I would recomment Ganders.
The food was good and the service was quick and friendly. However, do not plan on having a conversation at your table. The main dining room sounded like a high school cafeteria. In all fairness there were several large groups and a bunch of kids when we were there. I do not know if that is typical, but this place could definitely use some sound deadening panels to absorb the noise.
We went to Gander after a school event. It wasn't very busy so we couldn't understand why our service was so bad. My sons hamburger came back completely rare, and my husbands entire order was wrong. By the time their entrees were corrected everyone else was completely done eating. The manager never came by or anything. We will not be back.
It is very hot in here. Feels humid and sticky. I can’t imagine what it will be like when summer really gets going. Food is huge portions. Split! Food is good. No real choices for replacements for gluten free or fresh unique entrees. Heavier comfort foods. Service was great.
We went for the Sunday brunch buffet. Everything was cold. Service was good; the server was very friendly. But the food was terrible. We have been there before and liked it, but this was a huge disappointment. Too expensive for what we got. Also missed the sax player they used to have on Sundays. Will definitely not go back, at least not for the Sunday brunch.
I go to brunch fairly often it’s definitely one of best brunches in town.
Wonderful brunch! Like the new layout for the brunch line!
Food was good, great variety at buffett, loved that you order specials (omletts, crepes, eggs Benedict, etc) from server. We waited 10 minutes for a server and then only after I went to the hostess!!
The food and service were outstanding. Portion size were appropriate for the price. We will be back!
1st time here food was ok ,not great but I would return here ,
We brought our daughter and five of her friends to dinner for her birthday. The service was great. Food was delicious.
This was my first time at Gander, and planned a retiree luncheon. Everyone thought the food was great, and our waitress was excellent. She made sure everything was good, checked on drinks. I loved that I could make a reservation. Thanks again we will return.
Normally I would say yes, went Monday night and the food was not great. Our server was put off by simple questions and cut my husband off when asked a question. When she came back she was even more put off when we had to ask her to repeat herself because she didn’t finish what she was saying the first time. She was overall just rude. My husband walked to the bar to see the draft selection and the bar tender snapped at him to go back and order from the server and the list is on the table, the draft list does not have the complete selection. He didn’t even talk to or bother the bartender for a reaction like that. He was just looking. I doubt I’ll ever get him or my family to go back. It’s a real shame because the past times I’ve been there it was a great experience.
Over priced and too crowded on Mother’s Day; food tasted fine, but NOT worth the inflated Holiday price
A little disappointed in the Mother’s Day Brunch. When I booked on open table the price was $17.99 per adult. Upon receiving my bill price was $27.99.
Food was good, however I found it stranger that there were no Potato offerings on the buffet.
We may or may not return!
Wow! We had the fried calamari for an appetizer and it was PERFECTION! Perfectly golden brown and crispy - so tasty with the tartar sauce or the sweet chili sauce! The hubs and I shared the 12 ounce prime rib, beer braised button mushrooms and baked sweet potato. Everything was beyond excellent...if that's possible! Our darling server was Katie (an Interior Design student at U of L). She was polite, professional and "Johnny on the spot" attending to anything we needed. SOOOOOO glad I was bright enough to use the Open Table app and make reservations because the place was packed for Mother's Day (or maybe just a Saturday night out?). We ❤️ Gander
Had a nice dinner on Mother’s Day weekend. Unfortunately, our table was in the middle of the restaurant, with wait staff and others squeezing by the table. Wait staff were attentive, even though it was busy. Very loud in the restaurant. If you want a quiet dinner, this is not the place. However, the food was excellent. Had shrimp and grits, shrimp was cooked perfectly. Will plan to return on a non-holiday.
This is my second time going to Gander and there will not be a third. This restaurant cannot seem to get it together.
My first visit I found the food to be good but the service was non-attentive. I chalked it up as an off night. We decided to give Gander a second chance this evening and made a reservation through Open Table for 7PM.
When we arrived at the restaurant and checked in at 7PM the host advised the they were on a wait and there was not a table available. I explained that I had made the reservation through Open Table and they advised that they treat Open Table reservations as “call ahead seating” and you are put to the top of the wait list. This was not noted in my reservation or I would have chosen somewhere else to eat. After speaking with the host, manager, and general manager and getting three different explanations on how this foul up occurred, none of them seemed to try to correct the situation but rather apologize and make excuses.
The food was good and the service was better than the first time but it’s not worth the hassle to give them a third chance when there are so many other good restaurants in this town.
Great country fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. Super great meal!
Sunday brunch was good...salmon was the best and availability of omelet but prefer to order less food from menu
Went for the Sunday brunch. Great variety. Very attentive service. Overall comfortable atmosphere.
Very pleased with the post Derby brunch, especially the made to order items. Crepes yum!
I love the food and the atmosphere at The Gander, but it took almost 30 minutes to get our food.
Great restaurant with a wide variety to choose from.
GREAT service, GREAT food, GREAT time!!!
YES, we will be back!!!
This was a new venue for me. I really like Goose Creek Diner, and have eaten there many times. Easter brunch is such a wild day. I don't know how the restaurants manage to deal with it. We had reservations, but had a bit of a wait before our table was ready. That was no problem because we were seated in a booth. Why is that important? Because on this busiest of days, there were TONS of people moving about, and we were all comfortable in our booth. They did a very good job of keeping the buffet table items fresh and full. And the selection of foods was over the top.
Last Easter, I was not impressed with anything about the meal. It was at a higher end restaurant on the river and selection of foods was less than impressive. So put this one on your short list to try.
nice brunch. The mimosas, bloody mary, and French were highlights
Easter buffet was cold and horrible tasting.
First time at Gander. The menu was very good with a lot of variety. We will return.
Experience was fine. Wondering why OpenTable said my reservation didn’t qualify for points? What qualifies for points?
Gander is a great restaurant-with a very diverse
Menu. Love the casual atmosphere in the bar area and outdoor seating and the menu is awes.
It was our first time there and we loved it!! We will definitely go there again!!
