Gander an American Grill
We love going to Gander! They are always willing to do whatever it takes and have met our every request with a can do solution. Food is excellent and they have a fabulous bar.
Food was good. However we went on the special night. Had reservations at 6:30pm (through open table and even had email confirmation of this). Hostess had 5:45pm in their system. They did quickly get a table together for us, however the food special was sold out. So therefore we were already at the restaurant and had to just order something else. I’m hopeful they will better prepare for crowds with their special and have cooked enough next time. Special: $10 entree, 2 sides and a drink. Regular meals: $14 no sides and no drink...
We enjoyed the meal, but disappointed in no special. Was hopeful they’d substitute it for something else at same price.
Birthday cake was a great surprise for my grandaugther. Thank you for doing that
Excellent food - took my husband here for his birthday and we both thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
We did family brunch. Truly enjoyed experience. 4 grandkids dug into buffet. Made to order omelet tasted great. It was a little on small side. Desserts were fabulous. Clearing table seemed to be very slow.
Great place for when relatives come to town, or to go with your softball team. Not the best for a date. Service was mediocre, food was slightly above average for similar restaurants. Mixed drinks were very good. Price was better than expected.
Great for brunch or late night!
Food and service are always great! Nice to get good food and not have to wait forever!
We made a reservation for 6:30p on a Saturday. We arrived on time, but still had to wait 30 mins to be seated. We’ve never had this problem here before. However, once we were seated the service was excellent and the food was delicious. One food issue, the pork chops were a little under cooked.
Great dinner for the three of us. The prices and choices are outstanding as well. It is on our weekly eating-out list!
We were there for Sunday Brunch. The food was okay, not great but okay for the price. The highlight of the visit was the music - Saxophone and Base Guitar playing some Broadway and Big Band sounds.
Gander was noisy beyond comfort, We couldn't hear across our own table. service was very slow to the point that the manager offered an unsolicited apology and comped desserts. Our entrees were very tasty and arrive at the table at the proper temperature (although we waited much too long to get them)' We also noticed other diners haing the same issue. The comped desserts were disappointing - molten cake was cold as was crème brulle. We will not return.
Olivia was a most attentive server. The appetizers and entrees were delicious, and nicely sized.
Good brunch great value!
Excellent brunch buffet and great service!!
Perhaps I expected too much. We walked in for a Sunday brunch buffet and the setting/food looked wonderful. However, the food was not. The made to order omelette was too salty to finish. The made to order crêpe was not as described or as expected. You’re supposed to have a cream cheese crêpe with up to three fillings. However, all the fillings went on the outside of the crêpe, on the top of the dish. The crêpe itself was not thin, but was thick, doughy, and under cooked. On the positive side, the Caesar salad and salmon were superb on the buffet line. In addition, the waitress was overworked and too busy. Her attitude showed this. Overall, very disappointing and we will not be back.
Great place for southern cuisine that you can't find at many restaurants. Not very busy for a Saturday night.
We were extremely disappointed with our meal. My husband and I have dined here b4 and the food was awesome the 1st time so we couldn’t wait to try it again. We ordered the full rack of ribs and chicken salad meals. More than 1/2 the ribs and chicken and rice soup was left on the table...we didn’t even bother to ask for a to go bag and for my husband that’s unheard of. We will be back but will avoid these food choices...they just didn’t suit our tastebuds. Sorry for such a disappointing review.
Best wedge salad In Louisville. Olivia is was awesome
It was my first experience at Gander, but I’ll definitely be back! Our server, Kris M., was exceptional! Friendly, efficient, and fun! Food was prepared to order with huge portions. My hot brown was delicious! Wonderful dining experience.
Generally go for lunch, but went for dinner with friends. Server was helpful, but kitchen delivered our appetizer mid dinner after a mix up. We both ordered the prime rib, but honestly a bit firm and difficult to deal with.
Over all, enjoy. Fried green tomatoes are excellent. Will return but probably select other entrees.
We enjoyed another wonderful dining experience! FOOD AND DRINKS were very good!
Especially great food and music. Service was good.
Had the Sunday Brunch and it was the best I have had here in Louisville. The include made to order omlets and crepes. The omelet was great as was the bloody mary!
Our waitress was good, food was good. The noise level was extrodinarely loud especially as the waitresses went to reset tables dragging the chairs around. Wow! The sun was going down and shining right in our faces. There was a screen down but not very helpful.
Food and service was great. We got the Grit Cakes for an appetizer and they were amazing! The fresh corn inside and balsamic drizzle really made the dish. I would order this again as an entree. We got the Salmon and Grouper Fishes, both with Fried Green Tomatoes (with the delicious Gander sauce) and Broccoli. My salmon was great, the grouper tastes like it had Old Bay on it and seemed too salty for me, but my friend loved it. Overall the service is always fantastic; our waitress was great and made several recommendations. Food is always very good here and is very affordable. Split an appetizer, entree and a cocktail for just $31. Will definitely be back.
This is one of our regular go-to spots for dinner. We enjoy the menu, the service and everything about it.
Incredible food and huge portions. Great service!
Wonderful shrimp and grits. Bourban shrimp was delicious. Menu has a little of everything.
We love to sit at the bar when we go without kids. The bartender is incredible and food is always spot on.
Had a great time for a Girls Night Out! Food was delicious and service was fantastic!
I enjoy your specials except when you run out at 6:30pm that is a bummer you have to get there for dinner to early to enjoy it.Except for the noise level we enjoy coming out for the evening.Your Sunday brunch is very good also.
We went to the Sunday Brunch. The variety of dishes and the quality of the food was outstanding. The salmon was particularly good as was the stuffed French toast. I also liked that you had options to order off the menu and could combine that with doing the buffet.
Floor was dirty and too loud with lot of parties going on. Food was okay and service was okay.
We love Gander. Never disappoints.
We had the Sunday buffet. The hot items were not as hot as I would like, and the cold items weren't as cold as I like. Our server was attentive with coffee refills and removing used plates.
Sunday brunch - 10am - July 21, 2019. Waitress was Mary.
We went hoping for a nice relaxing morning with some jazz. But it all went wrong!
Having eater dinner here before, my expectations were not high. And having read reviews about ambient noise, I didnt expect a truly relaxing brunch and jazz experience. That being said... wow. This most recent visit ends any other future plans with Gander.
Beginning at reception on the way in, it was a mess. They didnt have anything in order, and the host actually left the stand telling us he would be back. No eye contact, nothing. About a minute later, he returned and we were seated. For no less than 10 minutes, we sat at our booth with no greeting. We could see three females in the back and hear them talking about working tables. But none of them did! Finally, here came Mary. What a delight! She either was having a horrific day, or simply should not be working in hospitality. She didnt offer anything but drinks, and didnt offer to take our order off the menu. We went to the buffet, and came back with one drink on the table. Shortly after, the other showed up with Mary... but again, no offer to take our order. She dropped the drink and left. 20+ minutes later Mary (having peeked her head out from the back multiple times, but never stopping by to check on us) finally came back and WE asked if she could take our order. Even though we both ordered the French toast without cream cheese, one showed up with cream cheese and the other without. By this point, we were so disappointed with the service and food, we were ready to leave. My expectations were Shoneys buffet level. But it didnt even meet that low bar. I hate to say, but the only thing that wasnt absolutely instant and presentable (eggs were more water than eggs), was the frozen desserts they had set out to thaw... Even the French toast. Sounds good on paper, but the strawberries and blueberries were not fresh! Dont go... JUST DONT GO!
Seated right away thanks to Open Table! Dip Trio appetizer was very good! Chicken Livers were a little too crispy. Wedge Salad was a huge disappointment. Side salad and Potato Soup were very good. (Still wish they had 1000 Island dressing! ) However, the entrees followed the salads by about 2 minutes. All of the entrees were very good except the Classic Burger was medium instead of the requested medium well. The second try was perfectly cooked to medium well! Overall, a good Saturday night out.
The food and service is always good, but the noise!
Loved the Sunday brunch buffet options with the jazz duo!
