Galpao Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse - San Antonio
The food is great however because the type of seating is not open and located in different rooms it makes it difficult to try all the different types of food which is less than ideal because of the type of restaurant this is. The staff is friendly and very accommodating but overwhelmed. Even though our reservations were for 8 pm we didn’t have the opportunity to sit until 845 p
The food was excellent. So many choices of meat you'll never be able to eat it all. Salad bar has everything you want and then some. Service was excellent. A great place to go on a date.
What a GREAT meal. Perfect for Valentines day
It was great customer service and food
My son’s 20th birthday. Restaurant was nice but standard Brazilian fare.
We went here for a family celebration, which included my grandbaby that is 15 months old. I wasn't sure if he would be well received, but they seated us in a private room and we received awesome service. We enjoyed our celebration and appreciate the top class food and service that made it an extra special evening!
From when we walked in everyone was super nice, service was great, food was delish. And their lemonade is to die for. Highly recommend
Great and amazing service. Food was amazing. And a lot less noiserer than Chauma.
The service was excellent. Our meat servers were fast and courteous and the waitstaff was quick to clear used dishes. The food was excellent with a salad bar with many options and delicious meats. We went for restaurant week so got a discounted price and dessert! Plan on going back soon
Always have a great time!
Server said there was 14 different kind of meats,we did not get 14 meats. Meats really didn't have any taste. All the red meats that were brought to us were all practically Raw, Our child doesn't like he's meats raw.
The food was really good and the service was great. We enjoyed our time here. It was our first time and it was on the list for restaurant week so we decided to check it out and were not disappointed. Planning to come back again.
Staff and food was awesome! It was a great value for restaurant week.
Great place for dinner. Was not a fan of the "lobster soup." It was not a lobster bisque. It was exactly as they named it-- "lobster soup." It was runny and tasted fishy with grit. Not appetizing at all and not at all what I would expect from an establishment such as this. Competing Brazilian steakhouses do it better. Otherwise, the service was great. The meats were great as well. The lamb was amazing. All cuts were moist and served to the proper doneness (medium was a true medium). Servers were patient with young children who didn't quite understand the concept of flipping cards or taking meat cuts with the tongs at first. We never felt rushed. The roasted pineapple carved off the skewer was a hit. The tables were small however. I realize the need to maximize floor space for more tables, however, a table for 4 did not have enough room for sides, main dishes, drinks, etc. We were constantly rearranging items. I feel sorry for those on the tables for two as they had even less room. Apparently there is no soda fountain. All sodas are served from a can and charged $2.25 per. Better off ordering tea with free refills or water. Wine list was extensive and spirits were crafted nicely. Due to construction in the area as of February 1, 2019, traffic can be janky. Bitters and Huebner overpasses over 1604 were closed. The parking lot seemed small and the entrance is not well marked. However, overall, this is still a nice place to dine. Although we took two kids (both under 7 so they were free, 7-12 are half price), depending on their age, maturity, behavior, and ability to sit still in a nice restaurant, I would recommend you take into account the atmosphere before bringing them along. If you're considering coming here, bring your appetite. It's simply not worth it otherwise. We took advantage of the Restaurant Week pricing and structure. Basically it included salad bar, meats, and dessert. The Creme Brulee was amazing as well. Would recommend and return.
It’s was good. Servers are friendly. Service is fast and everything is nice and smooth.
Great tome and great food. Excellent service
Took my husband and mother-in-law for their birthdays. Happened to coincide with restaurant week. Food was delicious as usual, but we had trouble getting the gauchos to bring meat to our table. I think they were just overrun bc of the RW crowd. We'll be back for sure.
Love this place but not this visit. Went restaurant week and they would not let me order the advertised because one person wanted the lamb chops at my table so the said everyone had to have the full meal. I paid full fare for lots of tasteless food. Looked like great cuts of meat and lamb and more but no seasoning except for one meat that was so spiced no one could eat. It will be a while before I try again.
Misunderstanding about restaurant week, but management handled situation with grace !
My party was sat 38mins after reservation time. And we had checked in 20mins early. There was lack of communication and even when spoke with manager at the end, no attempt to make up for evening. I was told they were short staffed and also was a busier Saturday than usual but I feel better communication could have made the evening better than fair especially for type of restaurant. I'd expect this from a chili's or roadhouse but not a fine dining
poor service. had reservations and hostess called from walk-in list the whole time. checked and talk to her again after waiting 40 minutes past my reservation time and she finally sat us because I complained. understaffed and waited 15 minutes before getting water. and of course waited 20 minutes after we had asked for the bill. will stick to chauma gaucha or texas de brazil.
Outside of listing restaurant week on my reservation and telling my original waiter there was confusion but quickly corrected. Desert was awesome, recommend the Flan.
We arrived on time for our reservation and didn’t get seated until an hour after. The waiter took 30 minutes to bring our drinks and throughout the meal we never got refills. We had to be asking for them. We had to wait another 20 minutes for our dessert because the kitchen was running behind. (We ordered cheesecake which I assume should be premade) The meat was delicious and the salad bar was good too. I don’t know about the ambiance as everyone seemed upset after having to wait that long. Worst birthday dinner ever.
7:30 reservation, didn't get seated until 8:20. C'mon man.
We arrived for our reservation time and told they overbooked and we would have to wait an extra 10-15 minutes... fine. But 45 mins later we were finally seated. After we were sat and drink orders taken, they didn’t come back for another 15 mins with our drinks. Meats seemed a little over cooked, not all the sides were brought out like they normally would. Second round of drinks also took another 10-15 mins. We only got service when we waved someone down. We spent over $100 and my husband ended up sick at the end of the night. Terrible experience:(
Even with the restaurant week discount this place is extremely over priced. I don’t know how people can pay this much and try to stuff themselves to the brim. The food tasted very salty to me and the salad bar was extremely random. Overall a good experience but would not come back, especially after my hour wait to be seated (with a reservation).
Not impressed with the service, for the amount of money we spent and compared to similar steak houses, I expected better attention. Drinks took over 20 minutes at a time therefore not timed with salad bar, main meal, and dessert. Our head table server came around once over the 2.5 hours we were there (most of the time was spent waiting on food or drinks).
We requested certain cuts of meat and they never arrived, had to wait for the round of servers to make their way to us. The salad bar was lacking, soups weren’t refilled for at least the first 30 min we were there (didn’t go back to check after we started eating meat).
We liked the food, very flavorful meat for sure (salmon was very dry - the only bad choice). The salad bar had nice options but most of it was low. The poor service is going to keep us from coming back unfortunately.
It’s also extremely loud - while I think it’s family friendly, children and babies should still be monitored by adults.
Everything was great but we still had to wait to be seated even though we arrived early with a reservation.
Me and my girlfriend attended for restaurant week and had a good time. Food was good and fresh. Our wait time to be seated seemed a little long, but sure it was just me being hangry.
My wife and I went there for date night during restaurant week. Salad bar not too bad aside from the lobster soup. My wife and I described it best as lobster water. I was expecting at least a lobster bisque which is what we’ve had at Texas de Brazil on several occasions. This however, was literally like colored water with lobster flavoring. No meat and not creamy like lobster bisque. Not good at all but it did provide for several laughs throughout the rest of the meal. We both ate maybe two spoonfuls and disappointingly moved on. The rest of the salad bar was just ok and overly impressive. There were various salads, smoked salmon and a variety of cheeses which were actually pretty good. Once the meat parade began, they keep it coming pretty quickly. The selection, quality and taste of the different meats offered was good. For dessert we both had the creme brulee which is my wife’s favorite dessert. Not the best creme brulee we’ve ever had but not the worst either. Overall, a decent place. We’ve been to Fogo de Chao and Texas de Brazil but not Chama Gaucha yet. Out of the three we’ve now been to, I would have to rank Galpao Gaucho in third place.
The plates they gave us were cold. Most of the sides were cold. The service was great , the best part of the meal was the deserts, Flan and Cream bule . We went for restaurant week so five of the meats were not available to us.
The food is ok, but not amazing for the cost. The waiter was nice at the beginning but then he wasn’t paying attention to our table. The true, we won’t comeback again. We were expecting to have a great experience but we didn’t.
Service was wonderful! Food was great (almost every meat was a favorite - only one or two were not - sausage was not a favorite, one of the chicken pieces was a tad overcooked - but all the beef and lamb was great!). Salad bar was beautifully assembled & displayed, but not near the variety you find at the other Brazilian steakhouse houses in town. Fried polenta was friend perfectly, as were the bananas. As far as the meats go, definitely one of the top Brazilian steakhouse in town (in my opinion, Galpao Gaucho is better than the 2 Brazilian places downtown).
I'm a classically trained French pastry chef and I'm extremely particular about how certain desserts are made. I am not a flan fan, but it was made just right (and my 2 dinner companions loved it). The creme brulee had the perfect texture (soft and silky but not runny). The sugar (though a tad too thin & still a bit grainy from unmelted sugar) was caramelized nicely with just a hint of bitter & sweet -perfect color, just a tad too thin.
Amazing place to have a date night !
We've been here before and we'll be back again. Love this place.
This was our first visit to this place. From the entrance to the end of our meal we were catered to like we were the most important customers in the building. It was amazing. The food was amazing. The entire experience was outstanding! They all go above and beyond for each and every customer and they are all truly a team. A well oiled machine you might say. We will definitely be coming back in the future and have already spread the word of our wonderful experience! Keep up the good work!!
Food was excellent. Unlike most Brazillian Steakhouses the food was not as salty as expected and this is a good thing. Staff was outstanding.
It was amazing. Service was good and servers were friendly.
The restaurant was disappointing . A lot of cuts of meat were very tough . The servers were great . Just the quality of food . Would I go there again . Probably not . Not being negative just real .
