What Insiders Are Saying
Gallow Green is the rooftop bar on top of the hotel in Chelsea where Sleep No More takes place, although you don’t have to wear a mask to drink here.
Food was good but overpriced for what you get. Cocktails, ambiance, and overall uniqueness of the establishment makes up for the relatively high cost of dining. Good for special occasions, dates, and/or a night cap.
C est un endroit magique où l'on passe une soirée sublime!
It was very noisy, but still enjoyable... if you didn't have to maintain a conversation with someone. The food was okay. I'm gluten and dairy intolerant, so I didn't have a lot of options. But the drink was delicious. However, you do pay just to be on a rooftop!
Nice ambiance and very friendly staff and great service. Menu was small. Cocktails were great. We loved the ambiance and the causal, non pretentious vibe. Gorgeous greenery. The only issue for me were Bathrooms were filthy and there was no soap which left me feeling icky.
First time in Manhattan and we luckily found this place. WOW! So much fun, our waitress was outstanding, food and drinks were perfect. If you can make it here, I highly recommend it!
It was a cold and wet evening, and the heaters weren't working, but the food was excellent. We'll have to come back when it's nice.
Die Location ist wunderschön und nach wie vor ein HotSpot unter den Rooftops in Manhattan. Der Service war super. Pizza und Herbs Salat waren keine Riesenportionen aber sehr lecker.
Mostly for the ambiance... oysters were excellent and fresh, good lobster rolls... cool spot and densely green.
We had an amazing time here! It was a special day for us and I wrote a note to them to please make it special, and they did do that! Absolutely loved it!
Average food choices could have been much much better ambiance is a1
Lovely to dine amidst the lush leaves and lights on the rooftop of Gallow Green
Very courteous service, yummy pizza and kale--quinoa salad--good wine.
Food was great and the decor was lovely but they sit you almost on top of other guests. I wanted a private birthday celebration dinner with my husband and was put shoulder to shoulder with some random couple.
Had bites & drinks after the Speakeasy Magick show (which is amazing). Food is delicious and hospitality top notch. Loved it!
I would recommend Gallow Green just for drinks. Food quality is really mediocre, quantity is small, and price is expensive. Hostess aggressively tried to seat two other customers right next to us when the restaurant was empty, making us all awkward.
This was one of the worst experiences we’ve had. It is outrageous that they charged so much for drinks that were TINY. I have NEVER been served such small portions and charged so much. Also the fact that it’s a roof top with no coverage should have been mentioned. We were freezing. Our food came before our drinks. Two of us ordered martinis which id usually more expensive because it’s a big glass. Not here. We should have complained but we just wanted to get out of there ASAP. Shameful
We had a great time at Gallow Green. The food was nice and the service was good. However, one issue we ran into was that the menu did not properly disclose nut allergy information. My friend had to run to the bathroom to wash out her mouth out before having a worse reaction. Please update the menus to disclose this information properly, or ask the party if there are any nut allergies. Thank you for dinner, though!
The waiter had no idea what he was talking about. I asked him about the lobster roll, what was in the sauce if there was any herbs such as chives, cilantro anything at all. He said he’d eaten it and no, it was just a basic mayo and celery. It came and it was literally covered in tarragon, overwhelmingly so. If you know anything about food at all you know tarragon is an intense flavor, definitely worth mentioning because a lot of people hate tarragon. He also said one of the drinks wasn’t very good and it was actually excellent. Scenery is absolutely gorgeous, I’d come back and steer clear of the server. Ha!
Very attentive service. Beautiful outdoor area to enjoy a summer evening. Excellent cocktails and food. A bit pricey but expected since you’re in the heart of NYC.
Wonderful evening and wonderful waitress we had. Can’t wait to come back :)
It was good l. They have to stop the construction every summer
Mediocre overpriced food. A salad and soup(!) so inedible they had to be sent back.
Great cocktails, though a bit pricey. Great service though and the food is good, though I wish they had a bit more of a selection.
Wonderful! One of the coolest places and experiences in the city.
Very original place looking like a mountain ski cabin on the top of a hotel roof.
Pop-up restaurant only open in the winter.
Very dark, 1930's atmosphere with small tables and rooms with corners for a perfect romantic dinner.
Unfortunately the menu is quite poor and the prices high.
Very little - and poor - choice in wine.
A few candles on the tables would be expected as light is poor.
No appetizers to share for two ( saucisson, cheese, olives .. ) as it should exist in every mountain cabin ..
Could be a great place with the above.
Great ambiance, probably better in spring when the roof opens. Food could use improvement.
My good friend and I both loved it! Will come again for sure.
Great atmosphere, incredibly friendly service from all involved - good food.
Very nice place, great service, interesting menu. Great experience
Amazing!!!! Everything from the food to the atmosphere is absolutely Devine
Was hoping for more. It was smaller than I expected, but also less intimate than I’d imagined. Not enough room to “hang out and get cozy,” as pictures might suggest. Food is fine, but massively over-priced. The temporary nature of the Lodge results in the decoration not being as good as it could be.
Go for the ambiance, not if you’re really hungry. My daughter is a fan of Sleep No More so we took her to Gallow Green for her 23rd birthday. Cool setting, a bit chilly with the door opening and closing. Service was very slow, but staff were very attentive when my husband spilled his soup (quickly cleaned up and replaced). The food was good, but the portions are very very small. We each ordered three different entrees and none came with salad or even table bread. I ordered mushroom ravioli and they were tasty but I think there were literally 5 of them. My daughter got the moussaka and it was a five bite dish. Not a place to go to fill a hungry stomach. Mousse dessert was very good. Honestly I think this place was way overrated and overpriced but my daughter enjoyed her birthday experience so that is what was important.
Had to pop along and check out The Lodge. Great set up! Cosy and inviting. Food was good, hot boozy drinks were great. Not the cheapest place in the city, but its an experience!
Very pricey cocktails, but cool quirky “speakeasy type” venue. Wish I would’ve been there when it was warmer because the fireplace and patio are the best parts. However, we didn’t get to enjoy those because it was too cold. The main dining area was cozy but just okay. Would only go back if I knew we wouldn’t be mostly confined to the main dining room. Overall though— unique experience you can’t really find anywhere other than New York!
The drinks (especially the cocktails) are incredible here. I've been here a few times and it really is always such a fun time. Can't say enough about the ambiance, either. I just went in February and the rooftop was designed like a lodge. It was warm, cozy and a lot of fun.
The food is also delicious, but I will say it's not much. The place is pretty pricey and while I really enjoyed the food, everything is served pretty light. I went home hungry despite spending nearly $200 on food and drinks. All that being said, this is perfect for a special date night.
It’s a very dark room but quite cozy and quiet—we were there around 6 on a Saturday night well before the partying crowd showed up. Drinks were tasty tho a bit steep. Wish they had more food options; we might have stayed longer. The fondue was good—a real throwback to the old days of fondue parties. I guess I was expecting more of a ski lodge ambiance.
The Lodge at Gallow Green was very intimate and cozy, similar to having dinner at a good friend's house. The steak and squash that we ordered was tasty however the portions were smaller than we expected considering the price. The cocktails were delicious, unique and very well made. I would return just for their signature cocktails because they were so good.
The menu was quite poor for food. They apparently changed it to focus on the drinks but not my thing. Ambience wasn't as amazing as expected but it was winter and weather was poor.
My friend and I had a great great time! We loved everything! You must visit! You won’t regret it.
Lovely experience. Great food leaves you wanting more. Attentive service and tastey mulled wine and cider. Worthwhile for those with imagination and heart.
