What Insiders Are Saying
Gallow Green is the rooftop bar on top of the hotel in Chelsea where Sleep No More takes place, although you don’t have to wear a mask to drink here.
The drinks are great, wanted to try every cocktail...I wonder if I succeeded...
Really Nice place, pleasant moment with my GF, a perfect place for a date! ;)
It's very nice place to eat and drink. Food is amazing and not so expensive. Desserts are delicious!
Come for the drinks and the views. The menu is so, so.
They shouldn’t have naked women walking. Around.
I must say- it was an absolute thundering DOWNPOUR when we were there, and there were water drips and puddles forming everywhere - but the staff did not lose their sense of humor or professionalism!!
I rarely leave reviews. Although the atmosphere is great here, the food is expensive and not very good. Tuna sandwich was literally inedible and had to be sent back to the kitchen.
Margherita pizza was relatively good, but not great.
The fries were meh.
The grilled chicken salad was worse than meh and the chicken texture and taste was that of defrosted frozen chicken.
Only thing this place has going for it is the ambiance - this does not override the subpar food. Go for drinks, not dinner.
The service was not great, the wait staff was clueless, we asked fir a manager, but one never came. Once our main meal was served, we never saw our waitress again. We had to flag down any other waiter/waitress/or bus staff to ask for our waitress & our bill. Some of our order never came, so we wanted to point that out to her/them before the bill came. She finally emerged 15 minutes after we started requesting her & WALKED RIGHT PAST US to check on another table. When we finally got her attention and told her what happened, she said “she asked them to cover for her”...
We had a reservation at Gallow Green for 9:30 because that was the earliest available time through OpenTable. My friend and I finished dinner at another spot much earlier than we expected, so we decided to head on over to Gallow Green to ask if we could drop our table and get a drink at the bar. The hostess was more than accommodating, saying it was perfectly fine that we do that. Half of the roof is reserved seating, and the other half is open, so she just told us to make sure and stay on the open side. No problem at all. We made our way up through the McKittrick Hotel in the elevator (a neat experience in itself) with a very friendly elevator operator. Once at the top, we made our way to the bar and got our cocktails: a Sleep No More for my friend and a '39 Spritzer for me. We found a table on the open side and were delighted to hear live music, an entertaining folky French band. Their music reminded us of Ratatouille or Monsters Inc. The rooftop is smaller, so the music dominated the space. I was still able to make conversation with my friend, but there were definitely times we had to shout. The reserved side of the rooftop was more separated from the music, so if you had a table there during a live music night, I'm sure you could converse just fine. We didn't try any of the food here. The cocktails were very good, a classic Manhattan $17+tax price point. After two signature cocktails, we turned to amaretto sours, the best I've ever had. The bartenders were kind and attentive. I am going back to Gallow Green!
Amazing service and food. Perfect!
A decent rooftop with quality food. A rooftop view from a communal table I was seated was almost nonexistent, but ambience was good and you can still go to a roof deck to see the view or get a table that is close to a roof deck then I think you can have a better view. Food was decent. Zucchini Pizza($23) would be a healthy and tasty choice. Also, I loved they had non-alcohol cocktails($9)
Very cramped. Sat at table with 6 other people, in addition to me and my boyfriend. Too uncomfortable and cramped.
Didn’t make it for the food. But the cocktails are good AF
High end cocktails didn't disappoint. I had the Gallows Green which was a nicely balanced whiskey cocktail with fruit and herbal flavors. My date had a Frosé (rosé slushy) and she loved it. Then I had a Sleep No More that also was quite enjoyable. Excellent cocktails and service with really lovely rustic ambiance.
Beautiful roof deck. Pretty flowers and herbs potted all around. The arugula pizzas was delicious
Absolutely beautiful rooftop with great cocktails! Pricier side and expect to wait if you don’t have a reservation. Loved the spot!
Great experience! Delicious food. Beautiful ambiance. Exceptional service. Fair price and great music for entertainment. LOVED!!!
Loved the ambiance! The menu is not very extensive but for NYC, the cost is inexpensive.
It was ok. Hiot and lots of mosquitos
My family and I always book a table at Gallow Green every time we visit New York. The atmosphere of this rooftop bar/restaurant is unmatched. The food is delicious and the cocktails are unique. I enjoy getting the dry cider. My mother always gets the 'Sleep No More' cocktail which almost looks too cute to drink. The service was slow. We felt like our waiter was not as attentive as he should have been. We probably would have bought more drinks but it took too long for him to stop at our table. The water boy was great though, I was certainly NEVER parched. Can't wait to visit again next year for more prosciutto pizza!
Great place! Beautiful views, just a tad too noisy when they decide to play live music.
Amazing ambiance, gluten free options and the drinks were so creative and fun!!!!
Very small menu. Tiny salad for $18
Super cute, great ambiance, very friendly staff, delicious food and incredible drinks
No AC. Too hot and we were rushed out of our table because there was another reservation coming.
Gallow Green is one those places that you have to try at least once. It's got a nice outdoor arrangement, but I was a little off-put about unexpectedly sharing a table with many other people. It also seemed pretty cramped and we were brushing elbows with the couples next to us. The food, on the other hand, was delicious and the drinks were good (though expensive). After dinner, we stayed for another drink and found a table a bit away from the crowd; that was a much more pleasant experience. I would recommend coming here for drinks over dinner just to avoid the crowd.
Great rooftop restaurant with a very friendly vibe.
We felt we were rushed to eat and leave which we felt really uncomfortable.
Very friendly and accommodating staff, lovely shaded outdoor dining and some excellent salads and cocktails . So nice to have an outdoor bar/ dining that isn’t overly expensive or pretentious. Fun and upbeat crowd . Good for groups and intimate dinner
Fly was in my drink, on the website it said Sunday live jazz all day came for dinner and was nothing
Really gorgeous atmosphere and well made drinks, but the food was underwhelming in value and flavor. My biggest problem is that I booked a table for two and showed up to be seated at an 8 top communal table with three other couples. You should really warn people that's going to be the option when making a reservation, because you're literally on top of other people at the small tables. No privacy or intimacy and everyone was awkward about it.
If you're a tourist or a try hard, Gallow Green is the spot for you. If you're a regular New York person looking for a cute rooftop spot to have a date or small gathering, I wouldn't reco coming here.
100 point for this place - Amazing rooftop on the west side
The space is beautiful and the food is pretty good (though costly). The service is very slow, but server very friendly. There is not a lack of waitstaff on shift, so I think there is room for improvement. Overall the experience was good.
I was here for the first time on a casual date night with my husband. We were led to a table that turned out to be smack in the middle of a community table & we had a request to be put on the table end. The middle would be great for a party of 4 for sure but not a couple. Otherwise the drinks, food & service was great.
Cool restaurant, just be prepared for the noisy atmoshere.
The atmosphere of this rooftop oasis is transporting! The drink (Sleep no more) was delicious, as was the Key Lime Pie the server recommended. The sandwich & pizza were good, but not great. I will definitely go again for drinks and ambience!
singe thé last time ...6 years ago...the manu change and we have less recipes
but the service was not at the level of what we paid
A wonderfully special and unexpected place. We enjoyed it hugely in the company of our teenage daughters.
