Apart from loving the ambiance we were happy with the service and how staff were able to accommodate us smoothly into another table instead of just kicking us out when our original seating would have been used for an event. Also loved the cocktails and charcuterie. Thank you!
À bit too noisy
I made a reservation a week in advance to have a table for two in this place where a lot of the table are actually big group table. We arrived a little early and they placed us in a big table with other people.
After a few minutes of disappointment, seing the place was full anyway we decided to forgot about this and enjoy our dinner. Which we did. Despite the noise, the place is nice and the food is good. We tried the Guanciale pizza which was amazing. Staff was really nice and helpful.
Sehr schönes Ambiente, einmalig! Ein Muss in NY!
We had a very nice time at Gallow Green. The atmosphere was like a magical garden.
Ive been to Gallow Green many times for drinks and loved it each time. After drinks I typically go to the Heath just below for dinner however they've closed and replaced the Heath with something far less appealing. So I decided to bring my date to Gallow Green as an alternative. The Cubano sandwhich was terrible, especially in comparison to Sophie's. The ravioli dish was more than small and I swear the sauce was Prego. Service was good and the ambiance was nice, but it's no substitute for the Heath. In general, id say go to Gallow Green for drinks but leave for dinner.
I was really excited about this meal, but was unfortunately disappointed. Even with an earlier reservation, my husband and I were squished into an already full communal table, and the 8 of us couldn't fit comfortably. Our waitress was extremely pushy, asking to take our order or clear out plates approx. every 2 minutes. When one of the specialty cocktails I ordered was unavailable, the bartender refused to make an alternative drink with whiskey and insisted upon their other signature tequila drink. I just don't understand why they couldn't make a basic whiskey sour at a bar? It was one of the restaurants that is trying to get you in and out of their space as quickly as possible, and if you aren't ready to eat and leave, this isn't the place for you. All of our food and drink was very average but overpriced because of the location. I won't be returning here.
I enjoyed the swing and the vegetation and ambiance. Food was yummy.
Buzzy ambiance, attentive service and the food was surprisingly on point as well! Loved it!
Out of town visitor!
By far the best ambience in the city and absolutely spectacular staff! Couldn't be lovelier or more attentive. Thank you for a magical evening!
The food size was small and over priced. Food was not seasoned well. Bartenders were sloppy. Over priced for the quality and service.
Very romantic atmosphere in the evening when the lamps come on. The food was fine, nothing special. The service was great. Be prepared to sit close to strangers and hear every word of their conversation...so don't go here if you want a bit of privacy. Good spot to chill with friends. Great date location for the rooftop vibes and a descent view. Most important...it was hot and we didn't have a bug issue. Koodos to the Green!
We booked far in advance and noted that it was our anniversary but were seated in between two other couples at a picnic table. I guess we chose the wrong place.
Loved visiting Gallow Green while visiting New York! Portions were a little small but the taste was amazing! Also LOVED the cocktails - Get the Gallo Green, HANDS DOWN! Can't to return some time soon hopefully!
Food and service was amazing! It was a really great birthday experience.
We had reservations and still waited 40 minutes. It's pretty and great for drinks .food is soso
Food was horrible. Terribly small plates and expensive. Won't go again
Great moment. Very nice food and atmosphere. Would recommand it and world come back with pleasure.
We loved the taste of the food and the awesome service!!!!!!! Everybody was so polite!!!
Extremely disappointing, main courses did not arrive at same time.
The experiential aspects of dinner at Gallow Green are probably the reason I would recommend this place to others. Waiting in the crowded elevator to go up to the rooftop, and walking through the dark corridors inside before reaching the oasis outdoors, was exciting. The greenery draped all over the rooftop is beautiful and especially stunning with the sun streaming through at sunset.
However the other aspects did not quite stand up. We had a margarita pizza and Caesar salad, both were very tasty and came out fast, but were nothing to write home about. Cocktails were nice but overpriced, and service was not bad but not particularly attentive either.
All in all, I would recommend but definitely good to know that what you're paying for is the overall experience rather than amazing food and service.
I liked the place when I first arrived. I'm glad I made a table reservation for 5pm. Our waitress was lovely. But by 6:30 all hell broke loose and it got noisy and quite crowded. There's this weird dark hallway you have to manage before you get to the rooftop that needs to be better lit. I'd give this place another try because the whiskey cobbler cocktail was yummy!
Great atmosphere. Typical NYC rooftop prices. Food is OK. Drinks are really good.
Not a very special place. They have large beer benches and put three couples on the same beer bench so it was not a great place for a special occasion and not very private. The staff are really annoying and interrupted our conversation every 5 mins. It's like they wanted us to leave before we even ordered.
Gallow Green would've been a great spot for just appetizers and drinks. I felt the food was overpriced for the quality and you pay for the venue. The venue was great, however.
Love it. I wrote it was for my wife birthday, and the guard downstairs and and hostess upstairs wished my wife a Happy Birthday. Didn't expected that.
Lovely view, nice service, lovely ambiance.
Food is not fancy, but is good.
I recomend this place.
Fun place but know that the food is not good. Don't go for the food and you're fine.
Had a wonderful experience at Gallow Green- Everyone on staff was very gracious. Charming rooftop, the garden feel almost made you forget you were in the city. Perfect spot for dates or brunch. Inventive drinks and delicious food, including wood fired pizzas and creative salads. We did not attend the immersive theatre production, Sleep No More, in the hotel but would love to go back for the full experience.
Great food and great service. Cannot wait to go back when it's warmer!
Great atmosphere and ambience. The service was fantastic, we were taken care of well throughout the entire dinner service. The food could definitely be Improved. The prices are very high for the quality of food and portion you receive. It was nothing to write home about.
Had a great time and met great people.
Had an awesome time. Food was good, service was great. Definitely noisy so if you're looking for a quiet dinner, this is not the place.
Horrible service, food was not great for the value, will not be back
We were seated and got our Charcuterie plate quite fast. When we were only half through and not finished, they served the entrees. I barely finished the entree before they removed my plate. Herefter we tried finish the charcuterie but the (although friendly) staff kept on rushing. We were finished within 30 minutes and felt very stressed. It would have been more relaxed and romantic at McDonald's.
Cannot recommend - neither the food nor the roof top garden is worth it!
Great restaurant for Friday night.
I went there with my husband and friends visiting from Tokyo,Japan.
Service was great and pizza was amazing! I totally recommend my friends.
A hidden gem in downtown Manhattan... Not the slickest of service for the money and the restrooms need better attention, but the food, wine, and ambiance more than make up for it. We thoroughly enjoyed the last night of our honeymoon here.
Gallow Green is a magical place to go... my feelings about eating there though are less than magical. While the ambiance is fun and the setting is beautiful, sitting crammed in picnic table seating with 8 is less than comfortable. God forbid I need to get up to go the bathroom - it would have required ninja moves in order to not disturb my neighbors. I couldn't hear my dinner companion and there was absolutely no "timing" to the dinner. We were in and out in 30 minutes. 30 MINUTES for a dinner in NYC is INSANE. The beauty of the night and the setting made me leave happy, but I will not be returning for dinner...
