Gallow Green Ratings and Reviews
Communal tables are almost always a turn-off for me. It's almost impossible not to get distracted overhearing other people's conversations, especially as the night goes on and the drinks continue to flow and the voices get louder and louder. Most of the tables at Gallow Green are communal...but happily, when I asked nicely, my server arranged for my dinner partner and I to be seated at a smaller table. I thought the rooftop setting would be a bit more glam, which would slightly justify the steep prices (cheapest bottle of red wine on the list: $56), but there wasn't much of a view to speak of. I found the staff all very friendly and nice, but I wouldn't go back.
The atmosphere was beautiful. I thought the portions were small for the price. My server was very distracted and we felt a little rushed. Also, we had our food but had to find our waiter because we still had not gotten our drinks. When we decided to have another round, we had to again find the waiter to find out where they were. But overall it was lovely.
The pizzas are amazing! If you eat anything off their menu, the pizzas are the one to try. They serve a tasty spiced olive oil with it. The cocktails and drafts looked to be served in too small glasses for the price you pay ($9 - $17). We skipped those. If it was BYOB, I would say it would be my favorite place. The venue is perfect for get togethers. Evening (7pm) lighting is romantic. Decor is beautiful for outdoors and farm-themed. They even had an outdoor fire pit while I was there. Waiters were attentive to keep your glasses filled.
I cannot see this place being wheelchair accessible as you would have to walk up a narrow flight of stairs after a cramped elevator ride to the top floor.
Dining in rooftop in Gallow green is fun. Food is ok for sharing with friends..The only downside is that there is not enough food choices in their menu list. Conversation with friends while dining is good here. Still will recommend to friends who prefer rooftop dining with a view.
My fiancé and I came here after our engagement photos, and although cold in the evening this time of year, it didn’t take away from the ambiance, service, and food! Awesome place and I’m always recommending it to everyone I know. Also, their brunch is fantastic! Awesome experience; must try for both brunch and dinner. So of course I’ll be back.
I asked for no ricotta on my pizza. The server said he would ask the cook because they don't usually "alter" their pizza. I was only asking to omit one topping! Of course the cook said no! When you pay $20 per cocktail, you'd expect to at least be accommodated on your meal. In the end, my date ordered a meal and I only got a cocktail, which was mediocre at best. He didn't like his meal much. Nice ambiance but very small menu.
The manager, Patrick, was so amazing not to mention his staff. Patrick made us feel like we were VIPs and was beyond friendly an accommodating! I would certainly recommend this place as it has good vibes, a fun atmosphere with a whimsical tone. The food was awesome and the drinks were great too! Definitely would come back when I get NY again!
Gallow Green, a hidden gem, tucked away on an unassuming rooftop in Chelsea, this place has an evening out in the city figured out. The restaurant itself is casual yet elegant, offer beautiful views and open air dining, in a clever, creative and comfortable space. The service, from beginning to end, was nothing short of perfection and the food was surprisingly complex, but extremely approachable. Dishes are small, but that simply gave the opportunity to try more dishes and share. Wine list is small but good enough, priced fairly. The Heath, after dinner, was terrific, upbeat and soul catching. Bassey and the Heathens is a great show on Saturday night and should not be missed. The band is amazing and Bassey herself is an onstage diamond.
Went there for a business dinner. Great creative drinks, fun atmosphere. The food was good, we ordered the lobster roll, salad, trout, and corn. The corn came on a cobb, surprised about that. The food was small but a good portion size for 2 women. Would go back next time, the pizza looked great and the service was really great. the outdoor bathrooms were not the cleanest smelling but it's an old building with a lot of charm.
I reserved a table at Gallow Green (GG), on a Friday night, to propose to my girlfriend. Few minutes before our reservation time, while outside the restaurant, we realized my girlfriend left her purse in Brooklyn. As a result we ended up having to move our dinner time back and forward several times. GG was beyond accommodating. With a pleasant smile, they worked with us to make sure the night stayed special. Everything went great in spite of the troubled start (for GG folks, we did recover the purse later that night, so all ended well).
Food and drinks were fantastic, not to mention the experience of dining in a rail car on the roof of a building in Manhattan.
This is a great find, and can't wait to be back!
We loved our romantic evening at Gallow Green. We were very lucky to be seated at a separate table in what looks like an old train car close to the balcony overlooking the street. We were glad to have avoided the benches and crowds. The atmosphere is what you're paying for...so the food is very pricey. I had two of the tiniest lobster rolls ever seen for $30! I would have given 5 stars if we hadn't been asked to move tables toward the end of our evening. I find that very distasteful. But our server was awesome!
Gallow Green is a beautiful rooftop bar! I'd highly recommend making reservations and getting a drink here. Portions are extremely small for the price, so be prepared to drop some money if you're extremely hungry. Our group tried several of the drinks and all were liked.
We arrived 1/2 hour before our OpenTable reservations, but there were empty tables and the host seated us right away. We loved the relaxed atmosphere of this place, and it had the perfect ambiance for a date night. We were really excited about the food and it was mostly okay; but the Cauliflower pizza was dry and lackluster. After dinner, we moved to the outdoor (first-come-first-serve) bar seating area and enjoyed our cocktails. It was warm and sparkling with lights, and had a festive feeling.
Let's first start off with the fact that someone was being taken away on a stretcher. Crazy first impression. We had checked in with a gentleman in the front who was very nice. The women who were in front of us were obnoxious to the max. We then proceeded to the elevator which the obnoxiousness got more intense. The guy on the elevator has to deal with these people being drunk and loud. I was expecting a more older, polished clientele. Not a college girls and guys dressed up just to go out for the night. I totally understand the whole chef movement of small portions but the best part of the meal was the pumpkin ravs, which was lacking portion and should have been an app or amuse bouche rather than a full sized entree. The portions were not correct in my opinion as someone in the business. The pizza was lacking, the "kale Caesar" was awful and way too much anchovy in the dressing and inedible, my Lambrusco was watered down, tasteless and in a gimlet glass. What?? Not proper. If you're going all the way with ambiance do it right. 17 bucks for wine I expect much more. I'll pay for anything that's quality but when I spend it on something that's not worth it I am not satisfied. The decor was also strange. "Halloween western" was the motif to me which was not what I assumed it to be. I thought it was a "garden" theme but upscale. Not even. Vines everywhere and actually a bit creepy. I enjoy that but it was executed wrong. The staff is very nice and attentive, but neglected to inform my server that it was my girls bday. I had specially put it in my instructions and the gentleman even mentioned it beforehand. I was expecting something. I don't even care if it was just a little dot on a plate but atleast acknowledge the fact. It was totally looked over. Not satisfied to say the least and won't be returning. I expect 1000% being in the restaurant industry knowing what I provide working in high end places.
