Visited late on the Eve of New Year's Eve. Great food, friendly staff - a cozy oasis on a brutally cold night. Will be back!

Food, service and atmosphere make Gallo Nero a solid reliable spot for dinner pre-theater. Only sour note was the waiter neglecting to inform us that their house brand of carbonated water was for sale, and not complimentary, which led to a $9 charge for water. I had to ask for the waiter to remove it from the bill, which he did, but it felt a little shady.

We loved our entire experience at Gallo Nero. My girlfriend and I went before going to a show and it was in a great location (less than 5 minute walk from the theaters) and had delicious food. The service was great too! We would definitely recommend Gallo Nero to a friend.

First time here but we'll be back. Super attentive service. Outstanding pasta selections, some made fresh in-house. Even dessert is worth mentioning (creme brulee & tiramisu) Wonder how they create such great food in such a tiny kitchen! Magic.

We walked into the cozy dining area with brick walls and beautiful, rustic decor. All of the staff were welcoming and accommodating. We all enjoyed our bruschetta appetizer and our pasta dishes were pretty good. Some of the sauces didn’t taste like authentic Italian sauces, though. They were quite average. Although we had a nice experience at this restaurant, I’m not sure if we would return on our next trip to NYC.

We chose this restaurant for a pre-theatre dinner because it was less commercial than many of the others in the area. It was perfect. It's a cute Italian place with a friendly staff that accommodates special requests to its creative menu. The prices were reasonable and the food was very good. In the hustle and bustle of the Time Square area, it was nice to find a small restaurant with a nice wine menu, good food and an unpretentious decor. We'd definitely return.

We've stopped in more than a few times for a few glasses of wine, pre/post theatre. The bar is tiny but the wine list is good and the cocktail features are appealing.

So, we stopped in for the first time for dinner, and we took advantage of being seated early for our reservation. Wine by the bottle was reasonable for NYC standards, and the choices were good.

My wife had a pasta with a carrot based sauce that she thought was terrific. She planned to take some of it home, but seeing as how she finished the whole thing, there weren't any leftovers.

I had a large veal chop that was perfectly prepared and plated with a potato/vegetable mix that was the perfect accent.

Service was spot-on. The server was attentive but not bothersome. I noticed that the server had another table where the two ladies who were seated were annoying because they wanted to move tha table, move the chairs, change their orders after they were places, etc., etc. If the server was annoyed, he didn't show it, he just handled them a lot better than I might have. Kudos to the server, he got it right even though these two were a pain.

Hey, I really liked the place. The comments about it being small are true - it's tiny. This might lead to a dense-packed crowd, or to some reservations being later, etc. Don't blame the restaurant - just be patient, this place is well worth the wait and well worth the reasonaboe costs.

Trust me, we thoroughly enjoyed it and we WILL be back,

Simple Italian food in a no fuss restaurant. Great service, perfect for stopping in before the theatre without the 'pre-theatre' menu.

I used to live a few blocks away and always enjoyed eating here. I came back in Dec 2017 after a decade away and found the food to still be pretty good. The pasta is al dente and the ingredients taste and appear to be fresh and good quality.

Loved it! We went during the pre-theater rush and, yes, be prepared for tight quarters, but food and service was exceptional and other diners nice/polite. Black fettuccine was wonderful, enjoyed the Osso Bucco and the fresh burratta appetizer as well. Tiramisu was also spot on (along with the wine, espresso, and limoncello). Great experience - and was convenient to Richard Rodgers theater too.

I love this restaurant. It has become my go to for small or large group business meal. Authentic Italian that reminds me of being in Italy. Great Chianti and fresh pasta, seafood options and great staff. Nestled in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood and deserves to be there.

Do try the grilled octopus as an appetizer. It is a heaping plate of deliciousness. For an entree My husband had the lamb shanks over risotto. Tender and well seasoned. I had another appetizer of sausage and broccoli over Flatbread. A little too much mozzarella. We shared a tart ufo . Service is attentive and professional. We've been here before and will go back again

Very uncomfortably crowded. They should really take out a couple of tables and jack up the price to make up for it, because the food is pretty good, the service and welcoming attitude of the staff are fantastic, and the place is cute and in a great location for pre-show dinners.

The food and service was great. The restaurant itself is very small. We commented on how they really take good advantage of their space for storage. Bathroom was clean but, very small and in the hall where servers come in and out of kitchen.

This was my second time at the restaurant. I love the fact that it is small and quiet. You can actually have a conversation at the table. You can enjoy your meal without feeling rushed The food is well prepared and the choices for specials are fantastic! I will definitely be back to this restaurant again.

Small place near the theater district. We arrived early and were seated (about 15 minutes before our reservation) which I appreciated. We had an early reservation so the place was fairly empty but was filled when we left and hour and half later. Meatball app was very good as was the chicken, roasted pepper and cheese crostini. Everyone enjoyed their pasta dishes and the portions were generous. It's a bit tight in there but not too bad. Could be difficult with coats, bags, etc. but we were traveling light before a show on a Sat. night.

Very pleasant for a pre-theater dinner. The service was good and so was the food; not outstanding but good. However, the dessert was undercooked - the pear tart crust was raw and the ice cream frozen. The $5.00 fee for a cup of coffee was over the top. This is not a 5 star restaurant that warrants $5.00 for coffee.

Gallo Nero had a great menu featuring specials as well. The bruschetta was fabulous. We had the lobster ravioli and the hanger steak, and we were pleased with both meals. The limoncello for dessert was excellent - definitely homemade and delicious.

The place is rather small, so larger groups may have trouble getting tables. Since it’s small, it can be quite noisy. We would recommend this place to a friend and dine there again.
