The quality of the food and the service was exceptional. We were looking for a quiet place to have a meeting as well as dinner and this was a perfect spot.
Attended dinner for New Years Eve. A set price menu and limited choices (4 each) on appetizers, salads, entree's and desserts. Service subpar, slow. Food, particularly salads and some of the entrees very disappointing, particularly for the money being paid. Even desserts were only so so!! With a limited menu, would have thought choices would have been top of the line and detail to quality. Not the case in my opinion. First time at this restaurant and will give it one more chance, but first time was a big disappointment.
We are regulars at the Gallery and have never had a bad meal there until tonight. Tonight’s New Years Eve $105 prix fixe dinner was extremely disappointing. Four people in our party of six skipped the first course because the 4 selections were too esoteric - a tartare, a pate, raw oysters or duck confit.
The next course was salad. My watercress and beet salad literally tasted like dirt. The beets were flavorless and not sweet. I could not choke it down. It was awful.
The entree course was our best course - no fails there. Dessert was surprisingly disappointing. Meh. The white chocolate selection had no flavor at all - it just tasted sweet. The champagne nougat selection was too sweet and not flavorful or appealing at all. All six of us just picked at dessert.
The service at the Gallery is always outstanding but tonight it was slightly better than average. The water and bread service was great as always but our waiter was obviously over taxed. We were not even offered coffee with our dessert.
What should have been a festive and delicious New Years Eve dinner instead was a big disappointment.
We love our time at the Gallery. It is special to us. The food and the cocktails are wonderful. The entire staff is friendly and personable. I would like to bring to your attention an issue we have had twice lately. On those two occasions the food took way to long. Both times our server was Dexter, a sweet man. I don't know if he was the issue, or the kitchen. I certainly don't want to get anyone in trouble. Both times our Sunday Brunch food took over 1 1/2 hours to arrive after ordering. That is not the service we expect.
Another warm wonderful dining experience. You never fail. Each time we visit, the experience gets better. Your gracious hospitality calls to us; your soups are made by magicians, but we most enjoy your hospitality. Great job. Thank you. You remain the finest restaurant in all of Charlotte.
The wines were extremely overpriced. The mark up over ordinary wines was excessive.
The menu was very limited and also overpriced for the quality of the food.
We had Christmas dinner here. It was very quiet, service was very attentive. The restaurant had a prix fixe menu, which we didn't realize until we arrived, choices were good, but the price was much too high for what we received. We would return and try the dinner menu.
Overpriced. 25% gratuity? Presentation was beautiful. Food not very tasty and in some instances unacceptable.
The Christmas day buffet was off the chart. Really amazing food and presentation. Cheers!
I only checked seasonal because that is my only experience at The Gallery. I can assume it would be good other times, but I do not know for sure. It was a holiday buffet and the service was exceptional, especially for a buffet. We had a harpist playing Christmas music on our side and there was a strolling violinist on the other side. The food was delicious and fresh. My only complaint about the food was that the breakfast potatoes were cold. Everything else, including the friendliness of the staff, more than made up for that. It was very expensive, but very well appointed.
Every year we celebrate Christmas Eve dinner at the Ballantyne, the service and food was outstanding.
We enjoy the Gallery very much. The Sunday brunch is always a winner. Our server, Doug, is wonderful. He has served us often and always is upbeat, helpful, and treats us like we are special. Servers like that are an asset and the reason we love being a repeat customer.
Food and ambiance was not 5 star to us nor worth the price tag. Was more of 3.5 to 4 star restaurant
The Gallery is our go to spot for brunch, especially during the holidays. The menu is seasonal and sources local farms which we love. The service is exceptional and the staff is always knowledgeable and friendly. The gallery bar is fun in the afternoons and dinner is exquisite. Definitely worth it!
Gallery never disappoints!
My friend and I came to the gallery restaurant for breakfast, I ordered the chorizo skillet which was outstanding, and my friend ordered the chefs choice French toast which she truly enjoyed as well. Our server Arlexis was great, she was very welcoming and described the menu perfectly, really look forward to coming back.
OUR EXPERIENCE WAS FANTASTIC! Service impeccable, food delicious.
The prawn cocktail was bland and plain. The cocktails were awesome and our waiter Sal was great. Dinner was just ok salmon was bland and scallops were good but not fantastic. The presentation for desert was great.
Taking my Granddaughter out for Christmas lunch
Good visit to Gallery. Went for brunch. Mostly we were interested in seeing the Gingerbread house competition, but decided to have brunch while there. Food was overall good, but nothing too memorable. Everything was well prepared, but lacked flavor in some areas. I ordered the crab cakes and the chicken and waffles. My wife had an omelet and potatoes bravas.
The atmosphere was very nice as it always is in the Ballantyne hotel.
Service was good overall.
Great service. Delicious food. Special date night!
The food is good but over priced. The special fish for the day was sea bass—$50. It was way over priced for what you got.
Fantastic experience for our anniversary dinner!
We were pleasantly surprised. My girlfriends and i in the past been disappointed with the overall experience when having our annual holiday luncheon before strolling the gingerbread houses. But this year we were happy to see holiday table decorations. The food was delicious and the staff very attentive. We can’t wait to come back next year.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Gallery on Friday, Dec 7, 2018. The food, drinks and service were all excellent. More than you would expect from a hotel restaurant. Pricey but worth it.
Have enjoyed the Gallery for many years and occasions. While still good, this night the service was slipping and food was also off. The ladies in our group hated the modern remodel from the southern classis it use to be. Hoping this place returns to what it was on all fronts.
I was there for a business lunch to discuss business, but got interrupted every 3-5 minutes
Spent the weekend at The Ballantyne Hotel for my daughter’s birthday. We ate brunch twice and had dinner once at the Gallery Restaurant. The food was delicious all around, from the brunch chorizo skillet and crab cakes and açaí berry bowls to the dinner short ribs and mushroom risotto. Even better was the service. For such a nice restaurant, they really catered to our 2 year old and the 14 year old girls, and the adults of course, from bringing special treats to the specially made got chocolates. Thanks to Serhat (one of the managers) and all the staff. It’s not often that we rave about service over the food.
The staff was prepared for our group and treated each individual graciously. very accomodating.
We had a very pleasant experience.
We were late on the Thanksgiving schedule. Staff seemed to be checking out early as I could not get a simple bowl for melted butter for 10 minutes. We also felt very rushed again related to being on the later schedule for the event. Pricing also silly overpriced for what we got during our rushed, short stay. Better place for a sit-down, off the menu dinner.
Had a 4:00 reservation for thanksgiving dinner. Seated in some brightly lit banquet room, and was informed it was a serve yourself buffet, half of which was breakfast food. For thanksgiving dinner. There was no mashed potatoes. No pumpkin pie. But plenty of breakfast. $500 for 5 people. Not worth it. Won’t return.
Our waiter was Sal and did an excellent job in waiting for the right moment to service us as this was a business dinner and we had many business discussions.
I ordered a salad and for $13.00 and there was barely any salad on the plate as the salad was just ok. Nothing special at all. My fiancé ordered cod which was the feature of the day and It tasted awful. Our server was outstanding. The bread was delicious and the art work in the restaurant is gorgeous. We used a gift card to celebrate our anniversary and we were really dissapointed with our meal. It was way too costly to leave feeling as though our meal wasn’t good.
Sandra did a great job with a positive attitude. The burger while more costly than some was one of the best that I have had. The ingredients were superb and the quality was noticeable.
We decided last minute to go here for breakfast (brunch since it was Saturday). There was a little bit of a wait to be greeted upon arrival as it was a very busy morning but nothing unbearable. I chose to have a mimosa despite the earlier hour and I was not disappointed. I selected the chorizo skillet and my husband had the chicken and waffles. They were both very good. We were both amazed at the flavor in the chicken. Past experiences have shown that when a "hotel restaurant" serves chicken, it has ZERO flavor. Doug was our server and he was very polite and responsive to my questions.
Sal was a fine server. The food was fine; not great. Our side was delayed so we were close to being done with our meal before it showed. The restaurant smelled like fish terribly, and then there was a terrible commotion from drunk patrons in the bar. The ambiance was more traditional, and conservative. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. I was on a first date so from that viewpoint, it was disappointing. I’m doubtful for a return engagement for this restaurant.
Derek and Jess make it great every time.
Great date night with a nice selection of wine. Wonderful service and were not rushed out of the restaurant. The waitress, Darlene was very helpful in recommending selections and very attentive.
