The Whistling Swan Inn & Restaurant
Sitting at the mahogany-topped bar with a glass of amazing wine would be enough of a draw for most, but then there are show-stopping entrees. Each dish is thoughtfully prepared, and delivered with warm hospitality. Plan to relax and enjoy.
Best Italian food north of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Very relaxing
We always look forward to our semi annual visit there
It is special
Our food was delicious and out wait person was sweet and paid attention to every detail.
The restaurant was clean and the seating was comfortable. The service was great and the atmosphere was quiet. The food was bland, ordinary and overall just not appetizing. The food was plated nicely but it seemed to be out of a can or made from premise sauces. We had the lasagna and the fettuccine Alfredo; portions were adequate but we left most of it on our plates due to the poor taste. Perhaps next time we will try another meal option off of the menu.
Been coming to Galileo’s 5 plus years. Like the special meal deal with bottle of wine. Like the free glass of beer or wine coupon (this year free chesszy fries with bacon was also a PLUS). The Lasagna is a favorite. Wonderful large shrimp in the Alfredo dish, the vegetarian pasta dish was good (had vegetarian in our family group). You get the feeling of being in someone’s home. Kathy Z is a good and friendly waitress. We definitely willl continue coming back with family and friends.
Terrible service. Only two waitresses working. No bartender, No hostess, and this Italian place was out of Chianti. Took 15 minutes to finally get our drinks. Waitress never checked how our meal was. Menu has less selections that previously and they are all more expensive. My husband's chair was broken and when he asked to change chairs, the waitress said, "Our chairs are in bad shape". Used to love this restaurant, but will not go back there again.
The food had no flavor and we were seated in the back and forgotten.
Our group of five had a great experience. Staff was friendly and efficient!!
My with had shrimp with pasta the food was horrid.
While my Caesar salad was good neither the soup or Ossobuco had any flavor .
We didn’t get everything we ordered which in hindsight may of been a blessing.
They did at least take one of the dinners off the bill and item which we ordered but didn’t come.
Can not recommend nor would we return to this restaurant.
We ate at Galileo’s last weekend for our first time. The Ambiance of the Restaurant was nice, the beer selection was excellent as you could get 25 different tap beers from the adjoining beer room that is part of this mini restaurant/shopping complex. Our server, Cathy Z. was really working hard as the restaurant was short staffed. We felt bad for her and she did her very best given the circumstances. The food was very average and very overpriced. Three of us had the panko crusted chicken with cheese and pasta (basically chicken parmigiana), this dish was $29.95 and did not even come with a salad! The same entree at Pasta Vino in Sister Bay would be less than $20.00 and would include a choice of salad, not to mention be much tastier. In general everyone remarked that the food was bland and overpriced. We will not be rushing back are there are better choices in Door County for Italian food.
Good food. Decent wine list. Service was good. Bread is ok.
We like the quiet atmosphere and great food. It is an easy walk from the marina as we were there by boat.
Service is always difficult in resort towns. But the young woman who waited on us was pleasant and efficient until getting our check.
I would still recommend it.
Really great older Italian restaurant in a tourist town. Not overly busy but everyone enjoyed their meals including the kids.
Three out of four dinners were quite average. The sauce was quite bland and disappointing. I liked the interior and they had a decent drink selection.
Great Italian food with very good service moderately priced in tourist town.
While not cheap, Galileo's was a good value compared to several other pricey Door County restaurants. We had a reservation for 6 people, and were seated immediately upon arrival. The food was excellent. I had the seafood pasta. Didn't plan on finishing it, but it was so good I couldn't help myself! Others had pasta primavera, and salmon and there were no leftovers. It was a very enjoyable meal at a reasonable price. We liked sitting at a round table where we could all converse with one another. Our only complaints were that the server was a little slow, and the room temperature was a little hot. (Note to the owners, please turn up the AC a bit!)
We get here at least once a year - and every time the food is outstanding and the service fabulous! We get the 2 for $60 meal which is a great value! We've never been disappointed in food or service.
We found this cute place almost by accident!!! We were on vacation with friends and we were looking for a new place to go. It was so good! I love the vegetarian minestrone. It’s worth visiting just for that soup! But it’s ALL good. We highly recommend!!
not impressed, but not terrible. would recommend pizza over pasta
We planned a dinner with another couple vacationing here in Door County and they selected Galileo's from a good experience of a prior dining. After deciding on a time for dinner, I checked open table to see if the restaurant was listed. Finding it was, I made a reservation for 6 pm and informed our friend. They arrived prior to us and he went to park the car, she jumped out at the door to grab a table. Our friends wife was not aware of our open table reservation and when asking for a table, was told no tables are available without a reservation. We just arrived and she was coming out to say we have to leave, they won't seat us without a reservation, saying they are fully booked all evening. I said, no worries, we have a reservation. Her husband said - oh I thought I told you he made one in advance. Well, we were now warmly welcomed in to our table. Into a completely empty restaurant. We were seated by the door, right next to the hostess stand. In a completely empty restaurant. I asked to be moved to another table, which they agreed. For the next hour and a half, hardly anyone entered and the restaurant was at best 25% occupied. Why would a restaurant turn away anyone in a resort area that has man, many places to dine???
On to our meal. My daughters pasta and marina sauce was terrible. My prime rib was chewy. The worst I ever had. My wife and friends did enjoy their lasagna and chicken picante. My daughters meal was missing toasted garlic bread and by the time it arrived 15 minutes later, she was also done with the meal.
The service was great. The young girl who waited our table was excellent. Friendly and very attentive.
The atmosphere was great. Music in background was soft and pleasant.
Finally, the menu prices posted on open table must have been last season prices, as the current menu offered to us at our table was higher priced.
All in all. On our next trip to the Door, this spot is not on our "must go to" list.
Our number one dinner destination
We never miss dining there
Cocktails were very good and pleasing. The Italian comfort and Cherry Martini are recommended choices. We had the fixedprice dinner with Wine and Dessert. The salad with house dressing was flavorful and good crisp fresh lettuce and vegetables was a custom variety. I had the Baked Lasagna for hungry appetites and I was impressed. My wife had Linguine with arribiata sauce. We were impressed with the dessert tray. Overall we highly recommend this Italian Restaurant. Our server was very attentive, courteous, friendly and helpful.
Quiet, lovely ambiance. Attentive staff. Prime rib melt in your mouth. Lasagna was very good. Nice wine selection. Good value.
Best dining in Door County
Great Caesar Salad and lasagna.
Wonderful atmosphere and decor
We had 7pm reservations and were promptly seated. It was a slow evening and not very busy. The waitress took our order and brought our glasses of wine. After waiting 40 minutes without seeing our waitress (we hadn't received bread, salad or entrees)we decided to leave and paid for our drinks at the bar. The manager was there and we politely told him that we were very disappointed and leaving due to the poor service. He apologized and offered to buy our wine and we declined.
Food was great, atmosphere was nice, location convenient, service was slow. We felt bad for the servers. I think they were understaffed, even the owner was running around clearing tables, serving water, seating people. That's what happens after summer! All the help goes back to school. I shared the salmon dish and caprese appetizer with a friend, and it was the perfect amount. Others did the 2 for $50 specials and had leftovers! Would go back!
Overall it was a very good experience. My only complaint is the seating. When you sit you sink into the middle of the chair almost like you are going to fall through. New seating would go a long way. Everyone's meal was very good.
Meal was great good value. I had the lasagna and my wife had the steak.
Best restaurant lasagna I ever had. Servings made individually in 6x6" bowls. Following crab cakes, this made a great meal for my wife's birthday celebration.
We were extremely pleased with our appetizer and prime rib dinner. The wine list offered good choices. Drink list was interesting with good choices for everyone's palette. Loved the atmosphere. Felt as if we were dining in one's home. Will definitely come back.
Cute place. Food was good and prices were reasonable.
We love the decor of Galileo's and always look forward to enjoying dinner there.
Just a spot we chose while on vacation. The owner/person who sat us not friendly at all. The server was friendly but very very slow service and the food just 'ok.'
Galileo's is the best Italian restaurant I have been to in a long while. The food was prepared perfectly, delivered with professionalism, friendliness and it was hot.
Food was tasty but expensive for the portions. If you have kids, skip this one and head next door to the Bistro where kids are free for dinner. Good service and a well stocked bar.
We arrived at 7:28 for a 7:30 reservation and the host told us we were early. The olive oil for the Italian bread was tasteless. The chicken in the chicken piccata was terrible - it was rubbery and lacked any flavor. My daughter had spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs were frozen meatballs from a store.
We love this place! We try to get here at least once a season. The service is always wonderful. Our server this time was very attentive and interacted well with us. We all had something different and we were very pleased!! Highly recommend! Can't go wrong!
Anna, our server, was very personable and attentive.
We enjoyed the seafood alfredo pasta as always. A favorite place to go every time we come to door county.
The meal was great I had the Lasagna with extra sauce and my wife had the Chicken Parm. We each had a free glass of wine thanks to the coupons. Service was good and the dessert tray was incredible. My wife had the apple cake which was very good!
