Top notch food and service. This is an upscale dinning experience that you just can't afford to miss when you go to Galveston. If you only have one opportunity to dine out when you visit, this is the place you are looking for.
Great seafood, great service with great explanation of menu !!
Went for my and my boyfriends 2 year anniversary and it was great! Awesome food and service worth the drive and price!
Long established Gaido's (or Guido) was overall positive experience.
You may like or not the place, as it shows all the fashionable decadence (more than 100 yrs old establishment I understand), however the food was very good and you can clearly understand the freshness while tasting (texture, color, odor etc); for example I am not a super fan of Gulf's oysters but those once were excellent!
Elena helped us with the food choices and I threw few challenging questions at her (I am pretty picky on wine and food) ... she clarified all the aspects also with a big smile on her face that made us feel good. Nice addition to a nice dinner.
If I could give 10 stars I would. By far the best seafood I have ever had!! The Mahi Mahi was excellent and you have to try the pecan pie, outstanding!!!
For 18+ years in the Houston areas, Gaido's has always been our go to Restaurant for special occasions or just a special person.
Always Reliable. Always Consistent. Always Gaido's.
We ordered the special—grilled wahoo and it was cold and dry. When waiter asked if we liked it, I said no and he just laughed. Have eaten there many times before and it was the first time to be disappointed.
There’s a reason Gaido’s has been an island tradition for over 100 years! The food is always good, service always reliable and price is fair.
Birthday, thus was listed in the reservation, however was not acknowledged by the restaurant nor waiter.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Galveston, never disappoints.
Wonderful and delicious. Doesn’t get any better than Gaido’s.
Oysters not good at all. Snapper dish delicious. Described as grilled but came with some breading on it which I did not expect for a grilled fsh. But was good
We ALWAYS visit Gaido’s when in Galveston ...
We’ve been visiting over 40 yrs...!!
Can never recall a bad/poor experience, a MUST for anyone visiting the island...
Great old fashion feel. Amazing sea food. Great portions.
Fabulous food. The grilled scallops were out of this world. The Shrimp Michael, specially ordered by Elena ,our waitress, was spectacular. We also loved the Watkins Bisque and the calamari.
To top it all off, we watched dolphins playing in front of our Ocean View window. Indescribable!
The chargrilled oysters were the best!
Brittni was the best waitress ever. Super friendly and provided great service.
Wahoo was terrible. Shrimp was low quality. Good service.
Been eating here for years. Still the best place to eat in Galveston.
Very classy. Felt like going back to another time in the deep south with all the waiters in white shirts and ties, black pants, white table cloths and napkins, etc. We really loved the ambiance and friendliness of the staff, especially our waitress, Iantha. Fish was very fresh and the sides were good and the creme brûlée was great.
Our server Sally was excellent. Our food was delicious.
Gaido's never fails me-had excellent client meeting-great food, service and value. The Shrimp Peques is a unique dish that is a real treat.
Have been a customer for about 70 years, first visit as a kid around 1947. Family usually went to Galveston for summer vacation, other short visits during the year. Always included a dinner at Gaido's. Never disappointed.
Latest was 4-8-2018, about 8:00pm, very busy, reservation on-time, really good food/drink service. We had crab fritters, redfish, tuna, prepared as ordered, plus sides. Nice wine list, no rush by friendly, courteous servers. Will be back at least once next time in town.
Awesome. So great and the service was job 1.
Dayton was our waiter. It was his birthday. He was very accommodating with 4 ladies, talking at once, giving him orders
Seated promptly for 7 pm reservation. Waited 15 min for a waitperson. She came as I was walking up to hostess station to see if the forgot us. Placed drink and appetiser order and requested bread. Drinks came. Apps came — oysters that were extra small and fishy and shrimp cocktail which was good. The shrimp were small. Waitress took our order, took the soda glass, and we asked for bread again. Asked again and she brought bread. Food arrived and we asked for soda again. Cowboy ribeye requested medium was rare and EXTREMELY tough. Fried seafood platter was cold. Scallops were delicious. Waitress never came to check on our food or ask if we needed anything. Appetiser and salad dishes stayed on our table the entire evening. Will not return.
Delicicous! Great service and great food! Will visit again!
First time that we have been to Gaido's in many years. We always went to the Pelican Club. When I found out that Gaido's now takes reservations for lunch and dinner we decided that we would try it again. Our food was delicious and our waiter, Marshall, outstanding. His knowledge of the different items on the menu helped us decide what we wanted for lunch. Plus his knowledge of the wines helped us pick one that would go with our meals.
Everything was delightful.
We will be back.
Simply the best!
The best meal ever. My favorite restaurant -- always consistently excellent!!!!
Lunch with mom for her birthday. It was very nice. Food was delicious. Service was good. A bit pricey.
We have eaten at Gaido’s many times over the years but we were disappointed in the fried shrimp and the fried soft shell crab entrees. Salads were delicious and service was great.
Gaido’s was highly recommended by many locals that we talked with. It did not disappoint! The seafood was very good, the wine list was excellent and the service and view of the gulf (via the parking lot) was good.
Gaido's has been a favorite for more than 50 years! Sure do miss the Pelican Club however.
Great to get back to this mainstay of Galveston after not going there for some 20 years. The food as in the past is excellent - just great Texas seafood. Service from Canib was top - notch. Very enjoyable evening.
Went for stuffed flounder which they advertise and historically have the best , but it was not available on this visit. Disappointing ! Gaidos has always had Good food good service and this visit was no different. . One of Galveston’s best .
Easter Sunday. We had a reservation and even though the restaurant was busy, we got right in. Did not try the Easter Buffet, but ordered from the menu. Food was very good and nice portion sizes. Service was excellent. The restaurant was quite noisy and hard to have a conversation.
Fantastic food and service. Stop reading and go eat.
My initial experience was the restaurant’s greeters were unpleasant when we arrived at 7:45 pm on 3/31/2018. One of the greeters asked if we had reservations. When we said ‘NO’ we were told the first available table wouldn’t be until 9 pm. We observed the dining room had plenty of available tables on both sides. The greeter, short man with glasses referred us to Nicks where we didn’t need a reservation and was part of Gaido’s. We left and went to Nick’s where we observed the restaurant had a waiting list and the restaurant was not as ‘clean’ as it should be. The chairs and booths were split and the stuffing was exposed, the menus were oily and dirty.
I then went online to make a reservation for Gaido’s at 8:15. We left Nicks to walk back to Gaido’s at 8:02 and was greeted by the same person. He asked if we had a reservation and had us seated within 2 minutes. The same tables were empty as they were when we arrived at 7:45 pm.
I don’t understand why the greeter wouldn’t seat us the first time. We were similarly dressed as other guests, neat appearance: dresses with jackets with
dress sandals. Gaido’s is across the street from Galveston beach, but we were dressed approximately. The only reason I can see him, (greeter) not seating us at 7:45 and 9:00 was our skin color. We returned approximately 15 minutes later with a reservation and was seated promptly.
Our server, answered questions about items on the menu, was very helpful in making meal selections and provided exceptional service.
This was the first time visiting Galveston Island, we enjoyed every experience except having to experience the time spent with the greeter at Gaido’s. We won’t return on future visits to the island.
