About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Neighborhood gem
For more than a century, Gage & Tollner was the cornerstone of the Brooklyn restaurant world. Generations of Brooklynites found comfort and community in Gage & Tollner’s magnificent landmarked dining room; generations from now, we want our children and grandchildren to find comfort here, too.

With three longtime friends and celebrated local restaurateurs at the helm -- partners Sohui Kim (chef, Insa / The Good Fork), Ben Schneider (Insa / The Good Fork), and St. John Frizell (Fort Defiance) -- our community-driven team has worked to restore Gage & Tollner to its former glory and guide it into the 21st century. Consistently on The New York Times Best Restaurants List since reopening (2021-2024), our delicious chophouse menu takes inspiration from the Gage & Tollner archives, honoring and elevating beloved longtime classics with meticulously-sourced ingredients and diligent technique.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Sydne Emi Gooden

From the OpenTable editors: A Brooklyn institution from 1879 until 2004, Gage & Tollner was reopened by restaurant vets Sohui Kim, Ben Schneider, and St. John Frizell in 2019 to great acclaim—including a spot on The New York Times's top 100 restaurants list. With classic dishes like oysters Rockefeller and chicken liver paté, as well as a selection of grass-fed, dry-aged steaks, the menu pays homage to the restaurant’s long history. Served in an award-winning dining room anchored by arched mirrors and a spacious dark-wood bar, Gage & Tollner nods to the past while feeling entirely modern (note the teeny 'tinis offered at happy hour).

Bermuda Night! Did you know there’s a Sunken Harbor Club in Bermuda? Tonight, we celebrate our second location with a special menu of Bermudian food, drinks, and fun — and one of our guests is going to win a Bermuda vacation! There will also be special prizes from Goslings! This week is Cup Match in Bermuda — a two-day cricket championship and a raucous national holiday. It’s the only time when you can gamble legally in Bermuda, and all you can play is an old sailor’s dice game called Crown & Anchor. We’ll set up some Crown & Anchor tables and show you how to play, with a chance to win special prizes! All guests will be entered to win the big door prize: a Bermuda vacation for two! The prize includes roundtrip tickets on BermudAir and a three-night stay in a deluxe water-view room at Cambridge Beaches, home of Sunken Harbor Club Bermuda. Ticket price includes a welcome rum swizzle. Bottles of the very limited–edition Sunken Harbor Club Navy Strength Rum: First Voyage will be available for sale! ***Please note; this ticket has a delayed start time of 7:30pm***

The Sunken Harbor Club is thrilled to present — all the way from New Orleans, Louisiana — Hi-Tide Recordings artist Charlie Halloran and the Tropicales! Charlie plays music built for hot summer nights — a midcentury, pan-Caribbean swing, blending classic calypsos from Trinidad, hypnotic cumbia, son Cubano, and New Orleans 50s rock. Critics say it’s “like taking a musical cruise from the sweaty nightclubs of New Orleans to the steamy ports of the West Indies, spending your time on board swaying to the music under a million pulsating stars.” If Sunken Harbor Club had a signature sound, THIS IS IT. Wear your white linen and come dance with us! Tickets are either for the 6:00pm show or the 8:00pm show —not both. All tickets include one welcome drink!

the beef wellington was still mooing at me (was red in the middle), waited 30 mins for that, then had to wait another 25 for filet mignon which was better but at that point me and my girlfriend had lost our appetite the waiter tried to accommodate but at that point it was already far too messed up

Porterhouse steak for three was excellent. Perfect size and very well cooked, rare in center and medium on the ends. Service was excellent.
