Gaetana’s in West Village is a place where a love of Italian food and New York City combine into one unique setting. The interior is amazingly charming with its warmth and richness. Gorgeous dark colors contrast nicely against lighter colored walls and linens whereas dim lighting and candlelight add a sense of romance to the air.
Some of the delicious foods you can expect to find at Gaetana’s include cold antipasto, lentil soup, cheese ravioli and penne a la vodka to name a few. There is also an incredible wine menu that allows you to select just the right drink to help complement your amazing Italian meal. If you are unsure which wines pair best with your food, a friendly staff member is always willing to assist you. Pay a visit to Gaetana’s today for some out-of-this world Italian food.
Place is small so try to arrive on time, not many seats at the bar to wait. Ambiance is great old world, bartender was great, Frankie the owner was a very nice, welcoming & friendly host.
Food portions were large and very flavorful. Wine list isn’t big but we had no trouble finding a perfect match with dinner. We will be definitely be going back.
A cozy corner restaurant in Greenwich Village, food was OK, nothing special. Atmosphere was nice
Very friendly staff and solid food, great for groups. Will definitely be back!
Good food and drinks are to be found at this nice little Greenwich Village Italian favorite. And The Great American Songbook music played over their speaker system at dinner is superb .
Recomendable. Nos atendieron muy bien. La comida muy Rica. Una cantina italiana
this place is a gem, very old school and unpretentious, the feeling is one of timelessness, nobody was texting or taking pictures of their food for instagram
Great family restaurant with good food, nice atmosphere and great service.
Great place, nice people. The hostess served us and tended to us as if we were family. An absolute sweetheart with a wonderful smile and very kind. I regret not remembering her name at the moment... We basically ordered everythinf she recommended and we loved it. Can't miss make sure to go!
Gaetana’s is AMAZING—we go here every time we’re in town!! The vodka sauce is to die for, along with their homemade cheese and olives. The service goes above and beyond and Frankie (the owner) is always around to make you feel extra special. They don’t mess around with their wine pour either!!
Gaetana's was absolutely perfect! The management (owner?) greeted me as I came in, immediately asked what we needed. we had an extra person and he didn't even blink, added a seat. Water was on the table in seconds. They asked me if we wanted appetizers. i was being indecisive. he said "you want it family style?" and i said "sure". he mentioned a few of his favorites and i agreed and before i knew it they were on the table. bread, oil, drinks. the server was unflustered by 13 people (5 children), and was there for everything we needed. we never had an empty glass (water or otherwise) or empty plate. the food was fresh, light, and was cooked and prepared absolutely perfectly. All througout, the manage (owner) kept coming to me and making sure it was ok, tasted good and asking if i needed anything. for a friday night at 730 we weren't rushed or pushed out. we were able to talk and sit and have a great time with no pressure. I have and will suggest this place to anyone and everyone who asks. in a huge city with so many choices, Gaetana's is the top of the list.
One of the worst dining experiences I've had in NYC in 41 years. I felt that I was a tourist in my home town eating at a nasty tourist trap. The food was barely edible and very overpriced. We had a reservation and was ignored until I got up to ask if there was a server who could take our order. It was early since we had to go to a show after and there was only one other table that had people at it when we came in. There are so many good restaurants in the W. Village and I looked this up and the reviews were good and I really don't know how. Terrible food -- everything was greasy, over salted and questionable as to freshness . The olives in the salad had mold on them, the putanesca was so anchovy flavored that it was inedible, the lasagna tasted like the meat had spoiled. I could go on, but what's the point? Just don't go to Gaetana's!
I liked the look of the place. But there was a distinct odor of disinfectant when I walked in the door. The food just wasn't very good and the service was slow. I'd never go back.
Wonderful neighborhood restaurant for any occasion. The owners Frankie and Michelle are delightful and very accommodating with any request. My only regret is that Gaetana's is not located directly my neighborhood.
Great atmosphere. Kind of place you can go with the family, friends, a group-- and all feel equally comfortable.
Thank you Frank and the team for making our dinner a wonderful experience. We’re coming back next weekend!
Wonderfully old fashioned red sauce restaurant. Busy when we arrived at 815. Very quiet by 930 on Tuesday night. Service could have been more attentive in the circumstances
As always super nice atmosphere in a genuine New Yorker Italian restaurant far away from tourist traps!
Thank you Frankie for an excellent dinner for my pals birthday 👍 god bless you my dear friend 🤗
The owner is an outstanding guy. His hospitality is what will make me come back soon and make Gaetana’s one of my go to places.
Have been here before and the food was excellent - however this time almost everything seemed to go wrong! Particularly disappointing considering we came for a special occasion (my mother's birthday). Food was bad (cold, unsalted, poorly prepared/low quality) and the wine was horrendous (very cheap wine marked up 4-5X!). Service was good but not great - our waiter was extremely nice and attentive, but the restaurant was very short staffed, so we didn't have access to a server many times when needed. Sad to say our experience was disappointing this time!
Never disappoints! Love their gnocchi with gorgonzala. I'm always tempted to lick the plate clean.
Had the Lasagna with Marinara - It was outstanding.
We also tried the penne a la vodka and the pizza alla lara and both were delicious.
Frankie the owner makes you feel like you are a regular with the way he greets all the patrons.
The owner is extremely friendly, and went out of his way to make our experience at Gaetana’s a great one. Would definitely return for the delicious food and fantastic service.
The coziest place with the best food in town! This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city.
Amazing. Frankie is the best. Enjoy the penne vodka!
Best Italian! Great little spot excellent service.
We came here to celebrate my brother’s birthday and had an amazing time. The staff were warm and friendly, food was delicious and generously portioned. Strongly recommend!!!!
Went here for birthday dinner w/ 8 people because everything was booked around greenwhich village. Have never been before. Food was terrible and cold. Service even worse. Not good
Wonderful food, ambiance and service!!
Pesto sauce was fresh and excellent. The Negroni beforehand was perfect. Everyone loved having Sunday dinner here.
