Excellent meal and even better service.
Food was great. Not busy at lunch time. Loved the service and valet parking.
Great food and service
We were nicely greeted upon arrival. The server was very nice when taking the order. We ordered a first and second course. My first course were crepes. Presentation was lovely. But the crepes were cold! The server never came around to us to check until the second course. We made a change to one of the second courses, opting for salad. We were told there would be an up charge. The server was apologetic about the cold crepes and offered to bring me more for dessert. I declined because that would have been too much sweet for me. When we received the bill I was not charged for the crepes, but the salad was a full charge. The second course was one piece of flounder and nothing else on the plate.
The ambience was lovely in this beautiful Hotel. However, the food was not good. Our appetizers were just terrible and to be fair they did take this off the bill. I had Oyster Rockafeller and they were too salty and too much spinach, not good at all. My husband had Ahi Tuna, but this was ladled with a sauce that he couldn't eat it. He then had Pork Belly which was ok and I had duck with trimmings. Both were catering packages that were just warmed up, not cooked on site by the Chef. Very disappointing for such a High End Hotel. There are plenty of other restaurants to eat in Charleston, so we won't be eating here again. Would not recommend to eat in this restaurant. Lovely place to have a drink in the main lobby and perhaps a burger, but thats it.
Had the thanksgiving dinner which was packed as expected. The hostess was very nice and told us that we wouldn’t get a seat for an hour, however, the ambiance and going to the rooftop made the time pass by quickly. Loved the food and the waiters were always checking up on us - despite being super busy which we appreciated. I would definitely go back for dinner again!
I hesitate to write anything negative but our experience was somewhat disappointing. We had reservations for 6:30 Thanksgiving evening. We arrived a bit early and were told we would be seated at 7:00 because they were backed up from the earlier reservations. We were finally seated at 7:15, our order was taken at 8:00 and we got our meal at 9:00. The manager and all the staff were very apologetic and I appreciate that, however that amount of delay is inexcusable to me. Granted there was a cruise ship in and a slew of people in town, but a restaurant of this caliber should be able to manage especially since we all had reservations. One couple who had a 7:15 reservation never got seated. On the positive side, the food was great and the wait staff was really good considering what they had to contend with.
Had Thanksgiving dinner here with a 5:30 reservation due to having a 2 year old. The service was extremely slow, 2 hours until we had our main course & we had to take our desserts home. Very stressful and expensive evening.
The food was amazing but we had to wait almost 1:15 hours to sit. We went to the bar and thankfully got a seat there. Dinner was really good, was surprised that they didn’t comp us a glass of champagne or anything at dinner for having us wait so long. They ran out of one of the soups by 6pm (thanksgiving dinner prix fixe) and then we were not given the full Offering for desert. Kind of a let down. The portions were wee — I think there was maybe a shot glass worth of cranberry sauce. A guy next to us was complaining to the waiter about how little turkey he got. I felt bad for the waiter. Was not his fault.
Just a delightful experience....ambiance and service were perfect....our thanks to the staff for working Thanksgiving and making the complete experience so enjoyable!!!
We had been looking forward to trying out Gabrielle in the Hotel Bennett for quite some time, so when they offered a special Thanksgiving menu, we put in our reservations early.
When we arrived we were seated up against some heavy drapes at a table for two (it felt a little awkward dining with one shoulder pressed up against it). The waiter was gracious enough, but it seemed to take quite a long time for food service. We had to finally ask one of the bus boys if we could get some bread, and the bisque came out barely lukewarm. The salad was pretty basic and the entrees were average (the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin was very nice but the Grouper was tasteless and small). The sides were brought out family style but we had to ask for serving utensils (and so did the table next to us). If this meal for two had been $50-$60, I would have said it was done well, but for almost $200 it was quite disappointing and very amateurish. It felt like the staff was just not familiar with the day to day operations of fine dining. We are not inclined to return.
We enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at the Gabrielle. The food and service were superb. The wait staff was attentive and we never felt rushed. Delivering great food and service on a holiday is no small feat. I look forward to re-visiting this restaurant on a non-holiday. I am sure that I won't be disappointed.
My husband and I dined on Thanksgiving day at Gabrielle which is the fine dining room in Hotel Bennett. The meal was excellent! The ambiance is beautiful and the staff is extremely attentive. All in all, this was one of the most special Thanksgivings that we have ever had! I highly recommend this restaurant and all of the bars and restaurants in Hotel Bennett. This was my third visit, but my first to Gabrielle and it will not be my last. If you like fine dining and good service, this is the place. It was very nice to see men in jackets and without their hats. I would like to meet the Chef. I hear that he was stolen from a very successful restaurant in New Orleans. Hats off to Hotel Bennett!
Gabrielle exceeded our expectations, which were already quite high, based on a friend’s recommendations. We will look forward to our next meal at this outstanding restaurant
Thanksgiving meal...starting service was slow and then improved. Entree (fried turkey) was excellent but the sides were just ok.
Second time at the Gabrielle and we loved today's breakfast. Last time we were here a few weeks ago and they didn't have heavy cream for coffee, they did have it today, which made me very happy, so thank you for that :) French toast and 3 eggs your way were very good, breakfast potatoes were out of this world - slightly garlicky and parmesan'y. Service was perfect - friendly, attentive, but not hovering. We will be back.
Gabrielle Charleston is an elegant French restaurant perfect for romantic dinners, special occasions or any time great food and outstanding service matter. Everyone we encountered -- from the impeccable host, Kyle, to our friendly server, Camille, to the many other staff members who helped us throughout our meal -- was poised, professional and excellent. Gabrielle is a beautiful space in which to relax and enjoy delicious food that's also a feast for the eyes. If you want to dine like a king or queen, I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food was terrible - we were extremely disappointed - shrimp was tasteless and fish was very salty
Very slow service from a snooty, inattentive waiter. But by far the worst was the food. Everything overdone and over salted. How can one possibly screw up oysters in the low country? This chef managed to do it. The oysters Rockefeller were drowned in some unknown salty, black goo that made them inedible! Escargots were served in a pastry boat that was difficult to cut with even a steak knife and the blue cheese salad was pathetic - one small bead of blue cheese in an unrecognizable overly salted dressing over a wedge of lettuce. Definitely won’t be returning to Gabrielle.
Carrie was amazing as always
The food and service was above and beyond what I expected and I had very high expectations heading into the evening. Absolutely wonderful time and I would recommend it to anyone.
We went to Gabrielle for an early dinner with my sister and her friend visiting for 3 days. They love ambiance and fine dining and Gabrielle did not disappoint. The room is beautiful and the service was very attentive. We split two Caesar salads and one escargot, ordered two duck l'orange, a beef tenderloin, a red snapper, and 3 sides for the table. Everything was very well accepted by all, except the red snapper was a bit rubbery and the mushroom side was too salty. Overall, a lovely dining experience for special occasions.
Decided to try Gabrielle because the Palmetto Cafe at the Charleston Place hotel was not available for the time slot we wanted. Beautiful interior and excellent service, the food is fine, but not better, breakfast for 3 was $100 not including the tip. Did not have heavy cream available to go with our coffee, only milk. Stingy on cream cheese with a half of a bagel sliced thin into chips to go along with salmon for almost $20. You get a full bagel and lots more cream cheese at the Palmetto Cafe for the same price. The hostess was busy with another reservation on the phone, so we had to wait for her to excuse herself in order to assist us. At this price point, more people should've been available to assist. Only second best to Palmetto Cafe.
Food was outstanding
From the moment I arrived at the front door, I was treated like a princess. Claire, and Carrie were just two of many excellent servers we had the pleasure of working with at our brunch. The hotel is stunning and our room was absolutely gorgeous. The food and was delicious and we celebrated with the most delicious pink Champagne. The ambiance was inviting and elegant. Thank you Brian for checking in on us and for your kindness, as well as the manager that stopped by to make sure we were completely satisfied. Gabrielle far surpassed and exceeded my expectations and I have already recommended it to many people, as well as organizations looking to host events. Thank you everyone, from valet to Chef. Also a thank you to Nathan who was an absolute gentleman. Claire and Carrie words can't express my sincerest gratitude for all of your hard work and help. I will be back very, very soon! Kind regards, Simone A.
Great service and excellent food
From the point we entered we were treated like royalty. There was no detail left to chance!!! Can’t wait to get back!!!
The Cesar salad is my absolute favorite. They are so accommodating to dietary needs and use the best ingredients. Fantastic for a business lunch as well.
This was our first trip here. Absolutely one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I got the duck a l’orange, my wife got the quail. We were both extremely impressed. We will be returning often.
Ordered a simple turkey club. The turkey was a fat slab that looked and tasted like it was cut from a canned turkey breast. Very disappointing.
Delicious Sunday lunch with great service, Suliman and Kamari! Chocolate truffle dessert was to die for !
Absolutely Amazing experience! Every bite from starters to desserts was a foodie experience. The flavors and textures were exquisite and the ambiance of the Bennett hotel served as the perfect backdrop to such a great meal celebrating my moms birthday. The service was friendly and on-point. Our server Claire was the perfect combination of friendly, informative and efficient. I will undoubtedly request her when we return. (Which will be very soon) New favorite in Charleston which says a lot!
What a perfect location for lunch! The food is fantastic and the staff is world class. Great value too!
We had brunch here the last time we were in town. That experience was flawless. We took our daughter and son-in-law today. When they arrived, the hostess was on her phone texting causing them to wait until she was finished. My daughter had to ask for syrup for her Belgian waffle. Two of our group had coffee but never received refills. For a hotel of this caliber, we were surprised to say the least.
Horrible service. Took over an hour to order food.
Beautiful new venue, the property seems to be a very good addition to Charleston but after living here for more than twenty years I have always said that its difficult to get a bad meal in CHS. Can't say that anymore. Went with a party of six and without exception dinner was the worst I have ever experience in town. Starting with the Oysters Rockefeller - they looked like they were topped with baby food spinach and no taste at all. Main courses ranged from fish (tiny tail end and dry) to beef (very over cooked) to Quail (which was an embarrassment to our fine State). Very disappointing as I can not remember the last time I sent something back. They only positives were the lobby bar, beautiful and good service, and the valet parking. May go back for a drink, but from my point of view, they don't have a restaurant.
Overall, the experience was fine. Service was very good but not excellent. As a table of four we ordered an array of items and there was not a single moment of excitement about the creativity or deliciousness of the meal. Cocktails were delightful which helped the experience but did not mask the par cuisine.
Excellent food and great ambiance. Service was excellent until the entrees came and then the service crawled to a near halt. Several large tables arrived but it surely was not a surprise they were coming?
Just lovely! We loved having drinks at Camellias before our dinner. The presentation was outstanding a day everything was exquisite and delicious. The severs made us feel very special. We even had a lovely, romantic spot next to the window. We will definitely dine again. Beautiful!
