Great French food at affordable prices!
The place is lovely. Very 19020’s Paris. The vibe was casual, a typical French bistro setting. We ordered the French onion soup and beef tartare for appetizers. Both delicious. The bread was excellent but not plentiful. As a table of two we were delivered three tiny pieces and would have loved a tad more but when we had finished those our waiter whisked the butter and bread dish away. Our mains were good, although the mac and cheese side dish was bland. My husband had the trout which was really amazing. My steak was unfortunately raw (I had ordered it medium). It was sent back and after a long wait, my husband had finished his meal, I received a new steak. We came for our anniversary and not only was it not celebrated or mentioned with a happy anniversary there was no apology for my steak or comp of anything, a glass of wine, dessert, etc. Despite the negatives the positives outweigh them so I definitely recommend.
Great value; very good food, bit the service was a problem. My wife requested no sauce on her trout bc of an onion allergy. When our entrees were delivered, the waiter said that they messed up my wife's dish and it was being re-done. He offered her a cheese plate while waiting. We were all a good way through our meals when her dish finally arrived ... without the sides of potatoes and green beans. While I appreciate the gesture of the cheese plate, the disruption to our dinner was obvious and I wish they had comped her entree. Finally, please stop with the descriptions of the food when it arrives. It's a plain piece of fish at a french bistro - I really don't need the waiter telling me there are lemon slices inside the trout. Too bad because everything else was quite nice.
Our visit was excellent. Our server was Justin and he was terrific , he gave good suggestions and was very nice. Our daughter is in a wheelchair and it was very accessible easy in and out and lots of room to move I can' t wait to go back again. Loved the escargot and the mussels and our drink the aviation was awesome and my husband had the house read wine and he loved it the apple tart was great, but the creme brulee was not that good, not custard tasting just tasted like whipped cream But we will come again for sure
The atmosphere was lovely. We loved the French Onion Soup and Pate. Omelet Fromage was cooked fine but missing cheese in 2/3 of it Dessert was good but not up to creating a lasting memory. Cafe Latte was debatable Service was slow even though the restaurant was not crowded.
We had great service and the restaurant was comfortable but we were very disappointed because this was the worst food we have had in years. The escargot was dripping in butter. The risotto also was greasy and the entrecôte was a thin, fatty and chewy piece of meat for $29 that should never be served in any restaurant. The only edible entree was the chicken palliard but certainly not memorable.
Food and service were excellent. The only prblem was the noise level. Were it quieter, I would have rated Gabi as a 5. When we were there times, shortly after they opened, with not many customers, it was very pleasant and quiet, but this last time the noise level was almost unbearable. It was just too noisy to hold a conversation. Perhaps if we had been seated towards the back of the restaurant, it would have been OK, but near the bar was not at all satisfactory for us. They need to get some more sound dampening material (or lose out on customers who are not GenXers or Millenials.
Excellent execution of classic dishes at a great price. Looking to try French cuisine? Start here! Already enjoy it? Be a regular.
Gabi hits the right points: great menu, impeccable service and full-on ambiance. The restaurant is worth the shift north up Broad Street above the Vine Street Expressway. I'm working my way through the menu. Try Gabi.
Second time there in under three weeks. Liked it even more b/c of our server -she was fun, personable and very crisp in appearance. Great service from everyone.
Outstanding new French bistro in the North Avenue of the Arts (Broad Street) area . Wonderful food, excellent service, and full bar. All at a reasonable price. Casual and comfortable. Highly recommended! ❤️👍❤️
Gabriella was fantastic and it is a great place for mixing some small plates or having a full meal. Good value for good, well prepared food
This is a great place for brunch. The food is well prepared and delicious, with the possible acceptation of their home fries, which are not much more than mushy potatoes. Their blueberry preserves are spectacular.
Dinner is another matter. The moules frites were not good. The broth had too much cream and the frites were mushy inside. They were crisp on the outside. The beef bourguignon was tough, the accompanying green beans were underdone and the mashed potatoes were tasteless. These guys have serious potato problems. Coffee and tea are served in cups without saucers. Makes it difficult to know where to put a tea bag since they only give you a cup of hot water. It's the odd things that make on hesitate to give this place a real thumbs up.
I'm not one to typically write reviews; however, after my dining experience at Gabi I felt it was necessary. Overall, the experience was fine- but where I was a bit turned off was when I was served a NY strip (with way too much cartilage lining) in lieu of a rib eye. When the check arrived and I informed the waiter about the kitchen mishap - I was then "explained" to that a rib eye and a NY strip are the same thing. Are they the same thing? Nope. Did I order a rib eye and get served an incorrect cut? Yes. Was the NY strip edible? Nope. Are there photo of rib eyes on Yelp, which only further exacerbates this egregious offense? Yes.
Our server was great, but our food took quite a while and when it came my sausage was overcooked and cold! Very disappointing! I think Gabi has great potential, but they still have a few kinks to work out.
Our server Hacine was superb! She recommended the trout and the steak. Both were delicious. Small but nicely priced wine list especially if you like Rhone wines. We will return!
Authentic French flavors - brought back memories of Paris!
Good experience. Excellent service. Knowledgeable water. Food was great
The addition of this gem to the Center City eating scene - although it's not really in Center City, but rather up Broad Street to the north a bit - is so welcome.
The service was exemplary. The price point is absolutely great considering the care that was taken in the preparation of the variety of foods that are available in this French Bistro.
All in all, our guests... and we.. totally enjoy the experience.
Especially outstanding... The green butter garlic escargot. And the steak tartare was just very special. My wife and I have had steak tartare at many places. I think there was a hint of horseradish added to this mixture which made it distinctive and unique.
Gabi is a place that you must try. And when you do you will probably conclude that is a place that you must return to, as did we.
Our experience was very good and we certainly will comeback. We were very pleased and the staff was excellent.
Terrific French Bistro experience - moderately priced and food is exceptional - traditional bistro fare with a gourmet flare. Very affordably priced wine selection - we will be BACK SOON!
Lackluster food, real basic faux French cafe. Cool 20’s ambiance
Wonderful Valentine's meal with garlicky escargot and a hint of spice in the squash soup. The duck confit was rich and crispy and the apple tart light and just right. We enjoyed the Art Deco walls and general ambiance.
Service attentive and thoughtful.
We'll definitely be back.
My wife and i went to Gabi for Valentines Day. The experience was wonderful. They called us prior to our reservation to let us know there was a special 3 course menu. Starter, entree and dessert for $45.00. We each chose a different option and shared. Every course was full of flavor, cooked perfectly and presented beautifully. The cheese plate, pâté’, duck, steak, creme brûlée, and chocolate mousse were all delicious. Seating was spacious and we could converse easily. A perfect night. Our waitress was great; she was attentive and helpful.
It was a good experience overall. The drinks could have tasted better. We sent back a drink. I stuck with a beer.
Our first visit on Valentines Day. The menu was a fixed price but many options available for the courses. We look forward to returning to check out the regular menu offerings. A great experience and would highly recommend it.
As I entered the front door I noticed a sad woman sitting at the bar looking a little droopy. She was the only one at the large bar. The hostess was a bit shy but once she found my reservation she took us to our seats. Comfortable and enough space between other guests. Waitress was pleasant and took care of us in a prompt manner. Food was good. I will return.
I travel to Paris as often as possible -- not nearly enough. Gabi is a wonderful restaurant in the Paris bistro tradition, in many respects: great food, considerate service attention and impressive decor. Reminded me of Cafe des officiers in the 7th, so I ordered moules frites, which came as the smallest, brothiest, most tender moules ever. Save room for creme brulee. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu. Wide sidewalk in front...tables there when the weather changes?
Great new spot for us. My Dad wanted to go for his birthday, and what a treat! Great food, nice bottle of wine shared. Service was excellent and pricing was also really good. Loved the atmosphere, $5 parking in the garage next door or free parking on Broad St. We really enjoyed ourselves and would definitely recommend. Enjoy!
We had a wonderful birthday dinner for my wife. The range of the menu was impressive, the service was excellent and helpful and the prices were quite reasonable.
Much too noisy and VERY poor service. Food good but not exceptional.
Excellent french bistro fare in a lovely environment. Terrific service on a busy night. Very reasonable prices for the food quality and house wine that is affordable - a rarity in Philadelphia these days. All around great dining experience.
I have been to Gabi several times for lunch and dinner. Even New Years. Each time was better than the last. It is wonderful to have a terrific restaurant added to this interesting neighborhood. I would strongly recommend the escargot, pate, French onion soup, salmon, …………. and on and on.
What a lovely little gem of a place. Almost feel badly about giving such high marks as it will just be that much more difficult to get into.
Gibran our server was attentive and just a class act!
As part of my job, I’ve traveled to France (and eaten!) probably 100 times, so whenever a new French dining experience shows up, we’re interested. Having enjoyed Bistrot La Minette over the years, Gabri was on our list. We lucked out with a reservation on short notice.
After cocktails, our meal started with foie gras. Excellent. We needed to grab some more bread to take full advantage.
For our entrees, we stuck with the basics. Chicken Paillard with salad and frites for me, and Duck Confit for my wife. Both met our expectations and were pretty inexpensive to boot.
We shared a Creme Brûlée for dessert. It was a little thicker and less “eggy” than I’m used to, but excellent flavor nonetheless.
I almost forgot to mention our server Eric. Incredibly attentive and engaging.
We’ll be back.
Four of us each ordered something different. We loved everything! Burger, duck confit, beef bourginon, whole trout, escargot, arugula beet salad, shrimp avocado appetizer, and beef tartare! We didn’t order dessert, but I saw a generous slice of chocolate cake go by. Yum!
The food was amazing and reasonably priced for the quality. Loved the Art Deco ambiance. The acoustics were also very good. We were a group of six and there were a lot of other groups, most tables were occupied, and yet we were all able to hear each other at our table and speak at a normal volume. We all loved the food and the experience and want to return.
Excellent food - wonderful service - loved it !
Great food. Loved the décor. Service was rapid and staff very friendly.
We really liked the restaurant, very pretty and our waitress was very attentive
